I've been experiencing a lot of Board down time in the last few days. Is it just me, or is everyone having sporadic difficulty getting on? And it's random stuff, too; sometimes I get a database error, sometimes the "browser cannot connect" message, and a couple of days ago I just got a white screen.

Thoughts?
 
Yeah, I'm the same. Sporadic downtime, quite alot. Is it maybe something to do with the upgrade?
 
I got the white screen earlier too. Maybe a couple of times a week I can't connect.

At least there haven't been any lengthy outages lately.
 
Nope, it isn't just you. The Board's been a little twitchy all day. Not altogether sure why, but I'm betting on the inevitable server issues that will crop up from time to time. Not to worry, it'll clear up. :: tu ::
 
yeah its happening everyday for me now, i have to refresh the page at least 3 times but i always get back 🙂.

While I am not an expert and may, in fact, be mistaken, I believe that refreshing while it is in a retrieval state does more harm than good.
As is usually the case the board down time was due to having too many people accessing the board at once. If everyone waits a few minutes rather than constantly refreshing the board (which aggravates (sp?) the problem) it will come back up automatically. There's nothing really that can be done about this - it's not an error, just a limitation of our hosting account (and all hosting accounts we would be on).

The board went down for from 2-5 minutes at a time it looks like, with one stretch of 10 minutes.


The downtime from a couple days again when the board wouldn't load for any of us was a problem with the hosts nameservers which they have fixed as of today.

PS It's not actually the number of people but the number of connections at the same time to the database. But it's easy to just say people accessing the board at once lol

LOL, I don't suppose it matters what the problem is does it - as I posted in the Upgrade thread, people just need to adhere to [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFhkhRZhDas"]this[/ame]

OMG Take That, it brings back the memories...
I couldn't access the boards for the whole of yesterday and not just for a short time. I'm usually pretty patient, hell I once stayed away for about 4 years, but I must admit that I really missed this place. I guess it's just the excellent people around these days 🙂
At least it got me to download IceChat onto my new Netbook!
 
Couldn't you set up a system so that people can sign up to get an email or something whenever the board comes back?
Or maybe just set up a Twitter account to keep people informed?

that way people could check those instead of refreshing the boards to see if they are back yet


And there must have been alot of 2-5 min downtimes, the boards were down for hours 😵
 
The downtime that happened yesterday was a complete blank page, not the usual error messages that we have had in the past. I'm not as technically minded as Buffy so I can't say for sure what happened. Because of the length of the downtime i'm guessing that it was to do with the host.

An email system would not really work given your email addresses are linked into the boards and if we can't access the boards then we could not access the email features to email members. When the boards come back up people go back to their normal business and we have lots of volume again so doing a mass round of emails would not exactly help.

Whenever there is a downtime I tend to leave it for a little while (not just a few minutes), and then come back and try. We do have the chat room which is not linked to the boards server so there is still a way to chat and communicate with other members, I find that being in chat word tends to spread quickly via that and IM's that the boards are back.

Me too, but i still ended up trying to come here atleast half a dozen times.

I also tried the irc room: No-one in there talking
I tried AD too: No mention of downtime
 
Oh nearly all of yesterday i couldn't get on the boards...i left it for an hour and tried again and nothing! It wasn't until the next day i could actually get on...it was a very difficult expirience for me XD It kept saying that the link was broken...or something like that.
 
Yea...I couldn't sign on yesterday at all! And I have been super busy with college so it was very upsetting that I didn't get to catch up...lol
It's working now though, yayy for buffy-boards!!
 
I actually like the idea of having a Twitter for the boards. I mean, the reason for anyone having a Twitter is to post about what they're doing and for others to follow along like little puppy dogs. And if it's something/someone you care about, wouldn't you like to know what is going on? It sure as heck would help some AND would calm down anyone's anxieties...if they were having any.
 
I was on vacation but I do try to post on AD and the BB MySpace. The staff has been working on setting up a Twitter and we'll post on there as well once that's done.
