this is the profile i was going to put on my website, but as it looks like i won't be making that in the for seeable future, i thought i'd put it in here 🙂 it's not very good though, sorry
Doyle came to the team in the very first episode. He was sent from the powers that be as a guide to Angel when he first arrived at L.A. He was a small Irish guy with a cute sense of humour. He got visions, and passed on the information from them to Angel, also saving his life a couple of time. He fell hard for Cordelia, but he didn't do anything about it. He was too scared to tell her that he was half demon. He drunk a little too much and gambled. He was a hustler and a bustler. But you couldn't help but love him for it. After a while, Cordy started to realise what a great guy Doyle was, but just as she was about to do something about it, Doyle's wife Harry turned up. They broke up years ago when Harry found out that Doyle was half demon. She now wants a divorce, and Doyle is upset to learn that she is now marrying another demon. He goes to the stag do, but it turns out that Harry's fiancés family traditions include eating the first husband's brains. Cordy, Angel and Harry arrive and save him. When Harry finds out that the fiancés family won't let them marry unless he eats Doyle's brains, she hands him the ring back and walks away. Before she leaves, she tells Cordy that Doyle used to teach 3rd grade. Cordy is both shocked and impressed by this. It turns out that there is more behind Doyle than first meets the eye. But then the episode Heroes arrives. Cordy finds out that Doyle is half demon. At first she tells him how worried she was for him, then slaps him for not telling her he was half demon; a fact that came well below short and poor, which he was anyway. Angel, Cordy and Doyle are locked in a place with lots of other half-demons, and a device is about to go off that will kill them all; that is, unless, someone can disconnect the cables. Angel and Doyle both realise that one of them will have to make the ultimate sacrifice. Doyle knows his time has come, and punches Angel over the railings. Then, he turns to Cordy and kisses her. As he does so, a spark passes from Doyle to Cordy, and unbeknown to them, he has passed his visions onto her. He says quietly, "Too bad we'll never know if this is a face you could have learnt to love." And he says goodbye. He turns demon faced, and jumps onto the device. He pulls the cable, and gets vapourised. Angel and Cordy embrace in shock. Doyle had dies to save them. He truly was a hero.
Doyle: "A good fight, yeah? You never know until you've been tested. I get that now."
Doyle: "Too bad we'll never know . . . if this is a face you could learn to love."
Doyle: "Is that it? Am I done?"
Doyle: "The Powers That Be don't live in our reality. You have to approach them through channels. Dangerous channels."
Angel: "Start approaching."
Doyle: "All right, all right. Maybe we could try the Oracles. But if they turn you into a toad, don't say I didn't warn you."
Harriet: "Sometimes I felt like I was one of his students."
Cordy: "That's funny. For a moment, I thought you said one of Doyle's students."
Harriet: "It wasn't fun being treated like a third grader, believe me."
Cordy: "Grade third taught Doyle?! Doyle taught third grade?!"
Harriet: "Yeah."
Cordy: "Are you sure he wasn't just held back and used that as a cover story?"
Kate: "Look at Doyle. Really look at him. What do you really see?"
Cordy: "A bad double polyblend?"
Kate: "That's defense, Cordelia. Maybe you should try to open your heart to a new possibility."
Doyle: "Hey, you know, she's starting to make some sen--"
Cordy: "Angel!"
Angel: "Sooner or later I'm gonna need to hear it."
Doyle: "What?"
Angel: "The story of your life."
Doyle: "Ah, and quite a tale it is, too. Full of ribald adventures and beautiful damsels with loose morals."
Angel: "Doyle."
Doyle: "I will. Just give me time. The past, don't let go does she."
Angel: "She never does."
Doyle: "He likes playing the hero. Walking off into the dark, his long coat flowing behind him in that mysterious and attractive way."
Cordy: "Is this a private moment? Cuz I could leave you alone."
Doyle: "I'm not saying I'm attracted. . . . Maybe I'm a little attracted."
Doyle: "Just think of it, man: pool-side tanning, bargain matinees, plus there are several strip clubs I know of that have a fabulous luncheon buffet that's really quite tasty... I've heard."
Doyle: "You know, maybe we should go over this thing again of you getting out in the world and involving yourself with people. It's Friday night! It's the most social night of the week! I mean a couple of lookers like us should be out there enjoying the night life, instead you're sitting here moping around in the dark like some kind of a . . ."
Angel: "Vampire?"
Doyle: "Well, yeah, I was gonna say slacker, but yeah, to you Mr. Obvious...."
Doyle: "It's not all about fighting and gadgets and such. It's about reaching out to people. Showing them that there's love and hope still left in this world."
Homeless Woman: "Got any spare change?"
Doyle: "Get a job you lazy sow."
