Why did they kill off Doyle?? I absolutely love him. Did the actor wanna leave? Or was it part of the plan for the series all along? I hope I still enjoy the show, he was my fav. I just finished Hero and was very shocked. It was amazing, the sacrifice he made, but very sad. 🙁
 
He too was one of my favorite characters.

I think he either left for personal issues or just because that was what the series had in store for him.

I really wanted him to be a regualr member because I wanted to see his relationship with Cordy grow. That would have been a good story line.
 
Doyle wouldn't be the first character in a show to be written out because of the actor's health or weakness for drugs or alcohol, or for such trivial reasons as ploitical orientation. Sometimes, though, the people in charge just feel like proving that no one, not even a popular regular, is immune from the axe. Knowing Joss' perverted joy in shocking his viewers, it could be any or all of the above,
 
I would like to add: Does anyone know if Glenn Quinn had the drinking and drug problems when he was on Angel? If he did then that would definetly explain why Joss Whedon would want to fire him if he did.
 
Basically, we the average fan don't know the whole story, and it's unlikely we ever will.

There's one story that says the character of Doyle was never meant to stick around. He was meant to be a character like Jesse who Joss planned all along to get rid of when he did.

The second possibility suggests the first may, or may not be true but either way Glen Quinn's problems hastened the process of Doyle's departure.

You'll see Tim Minear considered Doyle's return, but the thinking above him was Glen Quinn was not a good risk, because of his personal problems.
 
Having recently rewatched season 1, I have to agree - Doyle is brilliant. He was my favourite character in season 1, and it does seem a really bizarre choice to get rid of him. I kind of go off the series a little bit at this point, until the end of season 2, when Fred arrives and I can adopt her as my favourite instead!:cheering:
 
I liked Doyle, and the episode where he died was sorta sad, but I think the way things turned out was better, Doyle dying gave the visions to Cordy which is more interesting, plus it brought in Wesley. *shrugs* Whenever I go through "Angel" I never think "Man this would be so much better if Doyle were here!". But in season five, I do think "Man, this would be so much better if Cordy were here!" 🙂
 
doyle was one of my fav characters and then when i watched episode 9... i was like O_O WHAT?!?!?! T_T this can't be true... it was very very sad..... :'(
 
I was ok with doyle dieing. At first I had found out before watching it happened because I got into Angel late. Like last year late. So I read it on here and I thought oh no that's sad. And I waited for it, and it happened and it sucked. Wesley came and I forgot all about Doyle. Wes was just too awesome. So I guess it really didn't bother me.
 
i was sad they killed Doyle i loved him so much.

when they brought in Wesley I wasn't happy at all. i hated him on Buffy but for some odd reason i liked him on Angel

i guess it was for the best though
