Doyle's death, good or bad?

What do you think of Doyle's death, was it good or bad?
I think it was good Doyle died, I mean off course it was sad and all that but I never really liked Doyle, everything just got funnier and better when Wesley showed. And when Cordelia got the visions she grew a lot, became more unlike the Cordelia she was in Sunnydale. I have to say Angel became much better after Doyle's death.

I loved Doyle, and I don't think season one was better after he left, but the death was so perfect that I'm glad it happened. Up until that point I'd been in two minds about Angel, but that was when the dark side really kicked in for the first time.

It was good that he passed on the visions, if Cordelia had remained powerless she would have had little point later on, so that's another benefit of Doyle's death. I would have loved to see him come back somehow, maybe at the end of S5 when there weren't many characters left, but obviously that wasn't an option. He was a great character and will always remain one of my favourites.

I'm the opposite, I never really liked Wesley and his presence really put me off a bit. For purposes of the show Doyle's death led to a lot of changes, and the way the death was shown was perfect.

But if I had my way Doyle would have stayed and I wouldn't have had to use that box of tissues when watching that episode.
 
I really liked Doyle. Season one wasn't one of my favorites but I really liked Doyle. I cried when he died and I so didn't want him to die but now when I think about it I'm "glad" that he did. I love the fact that Cordelia became really important, got the visions.. And although I didn't really like Wesley at first, he became one of my absolut favorite characters after a while, I really love him so I'm so thankful he was on the show, heh... So yeah, I'd have to say that I found Doyle's death "good" for the show..
 
I cant say whether its better or worse because I dont know how it would have turned out if Doyle hadnt died. If Doyle had lived, there was potential for some really good episodes, so its not really possible to judge.
 
I didn't like Wesley that much in Buffy, there he was just being a big pain in the ass but when he came to Angel he got to act out and be funny in a way he hadn't been in Buffy, then I just loved him and his clumsiness
 
Personally I really liked Doyle, but I think his character was designed to die. Most aspects of his character had already been explored and I think his character would have gotten "stale" by season 2.
 
Doyle really brought a lot of depth to show, and provided Cordelia with the gift that would forever change her character. He was integral to the show, and it's tricky to think about whether or not it was good or bad.

I agree that his character was mainly to help out the other, major characters. But his death was so perfectly planned out and presented, that it did hit a nerve. I remember needed tissue for this epp as well. And because nobody would know how Doyle would have been in the remaining seasons, it's very hard to say.
 
I don't think I ever really liked Doyle very much. I'm not sure what his character served except to pass on visions to Cordelia to make her more powerful.
 
Okay, I read the replies and they all had good points. Cordelia wasn't anything until the visions, she was just a pretty face. So they waited till a good moment and killed off Doyle to make her stronger as a person. Which all makes sense, all of that. But the thing I regret is that Glenn Quinn was in all of nine episodes. I think Doyle deserved to be in more episodes then that! He was the first real character in the series.

Also, I just loved Doyle. I loved the accent, how he talked, how cute he was with that crush on Cordy. I wish that they had explored that. 🙁

And they way Doyle died? The Scourge? Not nearly as powerful as what they fought in later seasons, like the beast. I dunno, before when I first saw it I accepted it. He died saving everyone (after all of the stomping around and bawling my eyes out). Now, I still think he's a hero, just for a smaller crowd.
 
I forgot about the fact that Doyle was only in a hanful of episodes. I'm thinking that makes his death much more important. He was only in nine episodes!

Indeed. Though I can't think of anyone other than Illyria and Doyle right now.... Illyria was awesome though. :hihi:
 
Well to me Gwen Raiden was one of those characters. I mean she wasn't like Doyle, of course not, but I often forget about the fact that she's only in three episodes.. since she was pretty important to me. Not to mention Kendra... who wasn't that important to me but she definitely feels like a real character.. But yeah, Doyle was definitely the most important one..
 
Bad. Doyle was my favorite character. And I hated how it was right when something could have happened with him and Cordelia. *sigh* If they were going to get rid of him, they should have let him at least stay the rest of the season. I found myself watching episodes in the late first season wondering what would have happened if Doyle was in the situation.
 
I don't think that Doyle's death was a good thing. I'm not sure it was a great idea to kill of a main character halfway through the first season. Doyle was one of my favorite characters!

I think that Doyle brought a lot to the show. A lot of people say that Cordelia wouldn't have grown without her visions, but I don't think that's true. I think if Doyle had almost died, even, that would have mellowed her, at least for awhile. And she did just sort of realize how she felt about him right before he died.

Also, people say that without her visions, Cordelia was pointless to the show. I don't think that's true either. Xander didn't have any superpowers, and he wasn't useless on Buffy! Cordelia was an integral part of AI, even without her visions.

All in all, I think it was a poor decision to kill off Doyle.
 
I love Doyle, and I was very sad when he died, I even cried!!!! I don't like the way he died, it was all heroic, but I didn't like it... Of course, I'm glad Wes is in Angel Investigations now ^^.
 
i liked Doyle but i think his death worked well with what had to happen in the show but i would have liked to see what could've happened between him and Cordy

Yes!!! They had a chemistry and I'd like to know what would happen next. I have come to a realization that with him in the picture there wouldn't be a Cangel.

Yes, I thought that too. I guess his death halfway through the first season was because Glenn Quinn was fired. It was a poor decision and if you had realized they wanted to amend it in Season 5. [Lindsay played along as he was Doyle, if Quinn was alive maybe he would have played the part, it would be more interesting 🙁 🙁 🙁]

And yes, Queen C was in love with Doyle when he died.
 
I loved Doyle. I think the show would have been much better if he would have stayed in it. I never much cared for Wes. I think he was a very poor choice to replace Doyle. :sad26:
