Blondie Bear contacted me and asked me to post this here. She knows there were members here who were excited when they found out she was studying under Dr. Lavery, and she thought they might want to know about his passing.
This is a copy of the email announcing his death:
Dear Whedon Studies Association members, dear friends—
I find it difficult to tell you, but I must: The association’s co-founder David Lavery died this morning after a brief hospitalization. As we learn more, we will share more with you.
We will mourn together an incalculable loss.

David Lavery was and English professor at Middle Tennessee State University. He co-edited Conversations with Joss Whedon, and was considered an expert on Television.
