I couldn't resist posting this, there must be some fans out there old and new. I have to hold my hands up and say that prior to the new series I had only ever saw a few episodes of the old ones.

While it was cheesy in parts i.e the bin part, I did enjoy it. Chris is a great updated version of The Doctor, slightly loopy but definatly charasmatic. The scene where he explains about the world turning was one of my faves, and for comedy value the scene with Rose's mother in her bedroom. One thing for sure is that i'll never look at shop dummies in the same way again.
 
You beat me to it Faith. 😀 We don't get Doctor Who until April 5th where I am, but I did want to discuss it, because I am a fan of the Doctors.

My favourite Doctor was Tom Baker. How does this new guy stand next to him?
 
I didn't want to be the sad old fanboy and start this thread, so thanks to Faith for that but...wow! gosh! crikey! I felt about 7 again (except for not hiding behind the sofa 🙂) I thought it was great btw 🙂

The beginning was slightly spoilt by some technical cock-up by the BBC, who very kindly added the audience from the Graham Norton Show (I think) to the tense part where Rose was in the store basement - but overall it was well worth the 16 year wait...I'm not counting the Paul McGann TV movie version even tho' I didn't hate it.

I can't wait for the next ep, which looks like a cracker from the trailers...did anyone else detect an element of tribute to Douglas Adams (ex Dr Who writer and script editor btw) there? "Restaurant at the End of the Universe", by any chance?

Shame on you Frenchy 😉 Classic Brit sci-fi series for kids (of all ages) on TV from 1963-89, revived haltingly for an OK TV movie featuring Paul Mcgann and triumphantly returning to the BBC yesterday with Chris Ecclestone as The Doctor...

I thought that Chris had a great start as The Doctor - tho' he is a brilliant actor and had a pretty good script to work with 🙂 Time will tell if he's good enough to be compared with Baker, Troughton or Pertwee...

The only real carp I had was that the effects featuring the Nestene Consciousness didn't look that great to me, even tho' they'd been trumpeting how much the effects budget was for the new show compared to the paltry amount they used to work with...but, hey I wouldn't be a fanboy if I couldn't find something wrong 😉
 
I though it was good, although in parts cheesey and to be honest i dont like billie piper, i dont why, never have, so that taints it a bit fot me but otherwise it was good and i cant wait for the nest episode which looks cool although im trying not to get invested/addicted as usually whenever i like a show it gets cancelled!

It seems that only happened in certain areas as we were fine up here in Scotland. Probably because ours started slightly earlier so it could finish in time for the football afterwards.

N4H - As I said before, i've not seen a huge amount of the show in the past so I can't say how Chris measures up. The one thing that put me off the show in the past was that the Doctor's seemed just so out there it was annoying. So I like that he's not dressed in some crazy outfit with wild hair. He has sharp one liners and a manic grin.

As for Billie Piper as the assistant, I must say I didn't think she was going to be that good. But she was good in The Canterbury Tales with James Nesbitt, and she's not that bad here.

As well as the episode on Saturday, BBC3 are also running a 'Dr Who Confidential' series after the episodes air. And the good thing for N4H is that they are also available to watch online. You can get them here. And as the first one has aired you can get it online now :_
 
Me being a youngster and all, I haven't ever seen an episode of Doctor Who (I've seen clips of the Daleks and stuff tho), but I watched it on Saturday and thought it was great. Not as good as Buffy or some other American stuff (which is what I normally watch), but still good.

I thought the special effects were OK, and the doctor was really crazy, but it was funny, and if you don't take it too seriously then it's fantastic.

The only downside for me is that they put it up against Ant and Dec! Not fair! But then again, videos are marvellous things 😛

Both Ant & Dec and Dr Who are repeated on Sundays.
 
Ha! The Doctor whupped the arse off Anchovy and Deckchair...ratings-wise anyway...let's hope it continues...
 
I've just heard on my way home from work that Tony Head is the presenter of BBC Radio 2's Dr Who documentary "Project Who". The first part has already been broadcast but is available to listen to online and the second part is on Radio 2 tonight at 8.30pm (it will be online after it has aired).

Utterly depressing topic. When will us poor yanks get our taste of the new Dr. Who? I saw a bit of the new one and just the theme song gave me happy goosebumps of joy.
 
Are you guys close enough to the border to pick up any Canadian stations? If you are, you might be able to pick up Doctor Who April 5th on CBC. If not there's always the legal downloading option from BBC Faith mentioned.

I hate messing with codecs myself though, and refuse to update past Windows media player 4, because I boycott anything with DRM.

Unfortunately, the download mentioned is only for the Dr Who Confidential "making of" series...I'm told the first ep is available as an illegal download (not condoned at all 🙂) as a result of the actions of a (now allegedly fired) employee of the BBC's Canadian partners...or, as a cynical friend of mine said, as a result of the Beeb's PR department engaging in a bit of viral marketing 😉

It seems that its not only your friend that thinks this. There were a few articles on BBC news about it too. I honestly wouldn't put it past them.

Sorry you guys are not getting it there, I know that feeling when I hear of a lot of good shows shown in the states that never reach here.

...still patiently waiting for Lost...and Carnivale (though I think that's on a channel that we started receiving recently chez Pointy - but it's already halfway through the first season...curses!)
