Dr Who

...still patiently waiting for Lost...and Carnivale (though I think that's on a channel that we started receiving recently chez Pointy - but it's already halfway through the first season...curses!)

I heard a rumor Lost is on its way. Will try and get more info on that for you Mr P 🙂

Thanks luv - I'll be keeping an eye on BBC Cult etc as well
I wish you UK people could get Lost too. (Wait that didn't sound right 😀 ). What I mean is, I wish you guys could watch the show, then you could join our discussion in Whedonverse. We'd just have to post more spoiler tags, or maybe give you a UK thread, or a spoiler free multi-national thread, or something.

I thought Mr P may have beaten me to it, but I got a shock this morning when in my local newsagents. Christopher Eccleston has quit as The Doctor and will not be returning for a second series 🙁 You can find more over at BBC News

Still in shock...Mrs P told me about this over breakfast...jaw dropped 🙂

The good news is that the BBC have said that the show will continue and that the favourite to replace Chris is the brilliant David Tennant (star of Blackpool and Casanova). I think it's a bold move on Chris's behalf, as he could've been set for life as the Doctor...

I couldn't remember the date so checked the paper to make sure it wasn't April 1st!

Not sure on Tennant for the role, watched part of Casanova. In Blackpool was he the policeman? As if its him he looks much younger in Casanova than he did there.

It could have set Chris up for a while, but looking at his past roles, it is out of the ordinary for him, which is not always a bad thing. I was just reading in the paper yesterday how the Daleks and TARDIS toys are set to make a packet this Christmas. Wonder how Chris's figure will do.

We haven't seen Casanova yet - I think it clashed with something else when it was shown on BBC3 but we will give it a look when it debuts on BBC1. I thought that its trailers showed promise tho'.

Yea, he was the police inspector in Blackpool.

I caught a bit of Casanova on BBC3 but didn't see it all. It triggered who he was in Blackpool with his Scottish accent. I'd much prefer him than Bill Nighy, who was also considered before Chris got the role.

Its typical, the first British show i've liked in a while and this happens. Well at least we didn't get to attatched, unlike when the mighty Geoff left Coupling.

Wha??? That was really quick!! I wonder why...?

Anyways, my Mom thinks Anthony Head should play the Doc. 😛

As said in the article I linked to, he said that he didn't want to be typecast in that sort of role and that filming it back to back was taxing, or something along those lines.

I'd like to See if Tony Head try his hand as the Doctor but he'll always be Giles 🙂

i'd rather then go with somone like Bill Nighy then David Tennent, i'm sure he'd do a good job but he seems to similar to Ecclesâ„¢.

Sorry I'm late lol. I thought the pilot was great! kept a bit of that 70s cheesyness and Billie did rather well. As for Cassanova, I keep missing it!!! ::rm:: I wanted to give it a look in after seeing the adverts on BBC1.

From what I've read in the papers today David Tennant has the part and they've asked Chris Eccleston to re-shoot his last scenes to accomodate this. Sorry, but drunk and can't support this with a link 😉

lol what a flimsy excuse. I've checked the BBC news site and they don't have anything up about it yet

It was from yesterday's Daily Mirror - there were two stories one about Chris's re-shoot and the second about David Tennant being almost certain to be The Doctor.

SPOILER WARNING - this first link contains spoiler info about the season finale...

I hope he does get it, he could be good. Plus he's worked with the writer before.

Just seen the latest episode and wow. It was weird at first because I didn't want to get too into Chris knowing that he's not coming back but that grin gets me every time.

When they brought out that jukebox and spoke about a great classic, I thought for sure they would play Billie Piper as an inside joke, but he Britney's Toxic is a classic ballad 😉

The one thing that really jumped out to me was when the tree lady (can't remember her name) put her hand on his arm and said she was sorry about his planet, that one shot with his eyes really got me.

Just watching the Dr Who confidential on BBC3 and the difference between the effects in the series then and now makes it a much better show. Got my tv reminder set for the repeat 😀

The skin was wicked! Anne Robinson would have been better for the voice, but never mind.

The music they played was hilarious, and the fact they played it on an 'iPod' (actually a juke box) had me in stitches.

One complaint. Billie Piper should have ducked more when the sun was zapping her (or whatever) Her hands were on the charred bit.

Apart from that, I loved it 😀 Can't wait for next week!

The first mention that he's a Time Lord (hooray!) but they destroyed Gallifrey...and he's the last one...no more Master or Rani or Romana

I thought it was a good ep and a nice nod to Douglas Adams but I could've done without Chris's excessive mugging and gurning...Billie is shaping up really well tho'
