Dracula: The Un-Dead

111 years after the release of "Dracula", another member of the Stoker family is set to bring out a sequel, the first canon follow up to the 1897 novel.

I love the Dracula franchise, I have three copies of the original novel and a lot of the films that have been made over the years, one of my favourite fictional characters of all time.

But I can't help but feel a bit nervous about this announcement.

Its being written in the same style, following up all the characters that survived, rescuing deleted ones from the notes of the first book and using a lot of the unused material Bram left over.

So it sounds like it will feel like a true sequel. 😀

It would be great to see a true continuation of Dracula's story. Hopefully, this new novel will measure up to the original.

Okay, it's great they are really making an effort, using unused Stoker material and everything BUT I still have my doubts.

Dracula is a legend. An awesome 19th century story, with all that feeling of that particular era. Maybe we should just leave it like that. Of course, WCS we can still pretend the sequel is non existent (like the Cruel Intentions movie), but still, it would feel like tainting the original somehow.

True, some stories just seem to reach the perfect finale, like "Gone With The Wind." What happens next should be left to the imagination of the reader based on what the story teller has provided.

The original novel ends with an epilogue set 1 year later, where the cast return to the castle to find Dracula's remains missing, its an ominous ending designed to have a follow up. Bram simply died before he could make one.

Its this point that the films and cartoons etc always pick up on, hence him always coming back. This time is just the "canon" version.

I am not really kean on it. But I guess it's better than nothing. I like Dracula.. He's a vampire. And vampires are neat. Especially when they are blonde, and british
