Drew Goddard could be writing new Daredevil series

Drew Goddard is getting ready to tackle the Man Without Fear. TheWrap reports that the Cabin in the Woods helmer is in talks to write Marvel Studios and Netflix's upcoming "Daredevil" series, one of several shows that will build to a crossover miniseries, "The Defenders."

Other planned series include "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage," with the epic unfolding over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and the culminating mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

Goddard has had a long connection with Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon. In addition to working together on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," the pair collaborated on the screenplay to Cabin in the Woods. Goddard's other credits include writing work on World War Z, Cloverfield and Bad Robot's "Alias" and "LOST."

I hear about this new Netflix idea over the weekend, It seems like a lot of superheroes, but I really like that it's on Netflix, It will be interesting to see how they can approach a superhero show that actually has superheroes in it, not just leading up to them (Smallville), or showing a more believable side to it (Arrow), or based in the same world but not really including any super heroes (SHIELD).

Plus the slow build to a team series is a cool idea, and I'm glad their not just sticking to it with the movies and expanding on the universe, it will be interesting to see if their set in marvel movie-verse, or will this be it's own marvel-netflix-verse.

I would have thought ABC wouldn't want to play nice with Netflix on flexibility, but since ABC is owned by Disney, which owns Marvel, it will be interesting so see if we get any cross pollination (Dare Devil in an episode of SHIELD or a Coulson appearance in the Netflix shows)

Definitely interested in these, even nicer with a Whedon connection. I'm not yet in the frame of mind of "too many superheroes", but we shall see. I don't know a lot about these 4 (besides seeing the earlier Daredevil movie) so I don't have a lot to go on. But a fresh approach to the genre would be nice, too.

Wow, I hadn't heard about any of this before just now, but I'm excited. Goddard seems, on the surface at least when you consider his work on Angel and LOST, to be an excellent choice for this type of show/series/expanded universe. I like it a lot.

And setting the whole thing in Hell's Kitchen is a great idea. I hope it has a connection to the rest of the Marvel Universe, but it kind of its own thing at the same time, if that makes any sense.

Either way, stoked.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that the superhero market is going to be so flooded with costumed crime fighters over the next few years that we're all gonna get so totally burned out on them that we'll all be begging Hollywood to bring back westerns and P I shows.

I am just dandy with the market being flooded if it includes excellent writers such as Joss & Drew! Especially excited for this as I feel Drew has the potential to put a little more darkness into a superhero series than, say, most of what the market is going to give us in the coming year or 2.
