Driven By A Feeling of Loss
Cressida had long felt something was missing from the important eventualities in her life. When she looked at languages she didn’t understand, when condensation appeared on a window she half expected writing to be on it or half hoped the writing to appear, even when news programs featured people speaking into a microphone and a person was doing finger movements for the deaf.
Cressida half expected to read a message for her even though she didn’t know who would be sending her a message. She had often tried to figure out who it might be giving that could have sent her a message though no one she had known had been able to give her any helpful notions.
A visit to a side show act at a fun fair proved beneficial, the Fortune Teller gave her a new direction. The Teller told her to seek the aid of a specific psychic. The psychic listened to what she was told about Cressida and was able to give her the knowledge to seek a specific Ouija board, not to talk to the spirits but to seek help from who she would be best to get help from.
Over the following week it played on her mind, Cressida was a bit scared of the prospect of using an Ouija board. Though what made her more reluctant was being told to seek the help spoken of was that the psychic had told her to seek the enlightenment from a specific Tarot card reader.
The reader caused Cressida to have palpitations, as the reader told Cressida she had a twin sister and that it would begin to explain itself to her when she and the other twin were in the company of her twin sister. A friend of the family who had told her that she was an adoptee, the friend, Victoria, suggested that Cressida seek the details she needed to know from a witch.
The witch was known as Angharad, Victoria was given the directions how to get to where the witch lived. A week later Cressida and Victoria began the drive to Angharad’s home. When they got there and met Angharad both Cressida and Victoria were surprised by Angharad, her appearance was not as they expected.
During the drive they had discussed what Angharad might appear like, neither of them guessed that the witch would be so young or so beautiful. “I envisaged you would be at least fifty years old with wrinkly skin,” said Victoria. Angharad smiled, “I decided long ago that I would try to make myself appear a lot younger than I am. I grow my own Comfrey to make ointment, when mixed with tree bark from an oak tree I am able to heal myself of the aging process and stop it from affecting my skin.
But I digress, you are here to learn about your twin sister Willow.” Angharad led Cressida and Victoria into her house and had them enter her bedroom, to look at themselves in the full height mirror. Victoria was amazed by the cottage she had never seen a rock cottage that had been kept in such a wonderful condition.
In Angharad’s bedroom both Cressida and Victoria were told to look at their reflection in the mirror. While they looked at themselves Angharad moved the rug from the floor to reveal a magic circle, Angharad had them look very closely at the circle.
Cressida was first to realize the circle had been carved into the rock that made the floor. “The symbols are not to do general magic as such, they are to increase the strength of the magic. So Cressida, do you want to see what your twin looks like?” Cressida smiled at what she was asked, even more so when the image of a figure appeared in the circle.
“I must admit I do like the red hair,” said Angharad. Cressida was taken aback, “How were you able to make Willow be in the room?” Angharad almost laughed at Cressida but contained herself, she swung her arm through the spirit of Willow. “As you see that is not her, you only agreed to see what she looked like, are you now saying you’d like to meet her?” asked Angharad.
Cressida slowly nodded, “Just tell me when and where to go, I’ll be there,” replied Cressida. Stunned, she stepped back three paces as the physical embodiment of Willow took form in the circle. “What you need not ask is who had Willow be here, was it Willow or was it me?” asked Angharad. “What, could Willow have done that?” asked Cressida.
“Easily, I have just caused twenty or so girls to gain the power of the slayer after invoking the Powers That Be to allow the Guardians to grant them the contained fury of the Scythe. Moving myself to another continent is simple compared to that and let’s face it, finding out I have a twin was worth the trip,” said Willow.
Angharad advised Cressida, Willow and Victoria to look at the picture on the wall, Cressida asked who were the people in the painting. Angharad pointed to a picture, “That is a family as it was before a church took its vengeance on the family. Cressida looked at the people in the picture, it was of a grandmother, a mother and father and their twin babies.
The mother was accused of witchcraft, her babies were taken from her, one baby was given to a couple of another religion whilst the other was presented to a couple from their church. That baby was raised by a God fearing parents, unfortunately when the man died the woman blamed all the worlds ills on the child, even though it wasn’t possible for the child to have done what she was being blamed for.
That continued for years so when the pretend mother died the eighteen year old girl Cressida was relieved and began to search for who her real parents were, though now she was content at being with her twin sister.
