Driver's license

Seriously?! So the first time you are allowed to drive a car, even with a licensed driver supervising, is on the day of your test? That doesn't sound right to me.

You can't drive a car here without a license, but you can get a temporary license so that you can drive with another licensed driver over a certain age.

Yeah that's it! There is only one chance for you! There are adac-exercise-places. With a little luck you have one of them near to your town and then you can practise there. Only condition you have to be at least 16 years old and your father and mother has to sit next to you. That's a problem for some people becasue you can start to make your driver-lizense with 15 3/4 years if you want to and if you have no parents with a lizence it's difficult too!
And these places are so small. There not really good to practise! Just about 200-300 meters for you to drive!

How about 5'0 tall (me)? 😛

I've a friend who is only 4'10" and she drives (as well as my sister-in-law, who is the same height).

I, personally, don't have a license. I have a permit, as always, but I've had permits off and on for...seven years.

I need to see an optometrist before I can go for it, however. Besides, I'm quite okay without driving. The walking keeps me fit and I'm in a smaller town.

Yeah, I got it. It took some time but now I have my driving license! I had my test this morning. And it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be!

How does it work in Germany or wherever you guys live? 🙂
Here in Italy there is a theoric quiz and a driving test on road with your instructor and an instructor from another school 🙂 We can get our license when we turn 18, my birthday is in June and I got the licence half way through september 2010 🙂 and luckily the car they use for the driving test has double pedals, so your instructor can help you a bit...I was running over some old woman that jumped into the street and the instructor just used to brakes and pretended that was me 😀 ahahah it sounds awful now, but really I can drive properly, I was just tense 😀

Really ? That's a cool instructor! 😀 In Germany it's like this: You have to do a theoric quiz and a driving test too. But here in Germany the other man who has to test you, that's a seperated job/buissnes I think. And there is a big difference too! If my instructor would have used the double-pedals in the test, there would have been a loud "peep-sound" in the car and I would have failed! So there is no way that he can help me, his only job is to look that I follow the rules and don't put others in danger. If I do he has to react and my test in over.(Peep) I had to drive 45 minutes.

Ahah it's a bit easier here then! We have another instructor that's not related to the school you went to and he decides what you have to do. Our test lasts I think half an our and we have to drive around the city..a bit stressfull! And it always ends with a reverse parking manoeuvre🙂

We have to do 2 parking manoeuvres and a imergency-break. And a highway-drive and a city drive.
I've had one lesson, and I was terrible! I think I'll wait a few years before learning now, it's too expensive, and I'm too nervous about doing things wrong.
My boyfriend's friend has offered to teach me, but I think we'd fall out if I took him up on it, I'm too ditzy!

Yes the license costs something but be sure...Noone started worse that I did. Don't be afraid everyone started small and the drivers instructiors know that!
