Wow, surprised by the response here in regards to Burton. I enjoy his work and think this adaptation could be intriguing but am unsure how to envision the execution of the storyline, it being a film of little dialog. Are we to assume that more shall be added then? That should be the subject of wonder before where Jonny Depp will fit in.
By a combination of CGI and live action, I'm guessing what is meant is that the human characters will be live action while the animals or at least the ones that speak and Dumbo himself who has unrealistic ears would have CGI added to them to achieve those goals. It's worked for many great films such as the live-action Charlotte's Web and Babe.
I've never heard of Big Eyes but just watched a trailer on IMDB. It's got a good cast and sounds like an intense storyline that would fall into Burton's style. I may give it a shot sometime.
