Just taking an arbitrary time of 7:30 am and saying that anything within 30 minutes of that is the normal time that people usuallt get out of bed, would you consider yourself, either by preference or necessity (i e early job/classes/exercise routine, ets) an early riser or a late riser.

And for the sake of this discussion, "rising" means up, fylly dressed, and ready to start the day, not lying in bed or on a sofa reading, writing, or surfing the net.

I naturally wake up at 6 anyway so not a big problem.. back in my younger drinking days I would be out till 1 and 2am and still wake up at 6. Its harder as I get older though!
early.. I am not WORK by 7:30 or before.. I usually wake up around 4am

You have my sympathies. H had to be at work at 7AM for almost 40 years.
I prefer to not have to get up out of bed before noon. It's currently almost 10:30 and I feel like I'm going to die because it's so mother freaking early.

here's our twin brains again. :)
Early. I haven't slept in past 8:30 in about 4 1/2 years. Has the 7:00 shift at my work for the past two years, and just switched to the 8:00 shift today (yay!) Needless to say, 6:40 came this morning and I had no idea what to do with myself as I was already ready to go.... It felt so good to sleep in till 6:00 though!

If I don't have anywhere to be I'll sleep in but honestly, I feel much better when I have a routine and up and ready for road by 8.00-8.30AM.

Things change through the years. I used to hate getting up early. Now I always wish I'd waken up as early as 5-6 AM, but that doesn't happen. I don't like sleeping as I used to anymore. So I'd say it's about 9-10 AM. I go to work whenever I feel like it, could be noon and even evening (because I'm a freelancer).

On the weekends I'm up at 930 for work and during the week I usually sleep until at least 10. To me, that's early.

During school however I always like to take the earliest classes possible because I like getting up in the morning and taking a few classes and being done for the day around 12pm.

i can give you suggestions!!

Although the first part of September when I may or may not lose my job, I may mark the first time I have been jobless in 17 years with the sleeping in thing... see what the fuss is all about.

In the summer and weekends, I love to get up late, though I can't actually sleep beyond 7 unless I am exhausted... I normally lie in bed a few hours and just think and rest and plan my day. It's sort of like a spa treatment for me. On school days, I have to rise between 6 and 6:30, and since I can be up and cheerful in no time at all (it takes me about 5 minutes to get ready on a good day), I'm ready to go then.

7:30 AM? That's still ungodly middle-of-the-night time! (sw)

Definitely a late riser. While I don't have any standard cycle to speak of, I get cranky if I have any appointments to rise for before noontime.

hahaha that's what I thought when I saw 7:30.
early. Only cause I gotta wake up and give the dogs their medicine. If I didn't have to get up for that, I'll probably wake up around 11am.

I also wanna mention how much I like the air early in the morning. It's so fresh (if that makes sense). That's why I like not going to sleep. Not because I don't want to go to sleep, but because I like waiting for the morning to come, for the dawn, when all the birds are waking up. There's something in that hour that is so calm and quiet. It makes me feel good.

Late. Definitely late.

I have to work a lot at night--so I definitely have to sleep in as much as possible when that happens. But even if I go to bed at a reasonable hour, I really can't get anything accomplished until at least 12pm.

Understand what you mean. But its an amazing way to start the day also. It really feels poetic and monumentally important. To be up before the sun, before the birds, before the city itself. To watch as it gets light. As birds begin to sing. To be able to sit back and watch as the world around you comes to life. It makes each day seem that much more awe-inspiring. That much more... memorable. You have the whole day in front of you. The endless possibilities. It's all under control. Anything is possible.

Exactly!
Early, I usually get up between 7-8am. I physically feel so much better getting up by 8am every morning. Sleeping in to me is staying in bed until 8:30-8:45ish.

I'm an insomniac so I'm more or less always up late and up early. (I've worked on the up late part though and started to get to bed earlier 🙂)

So definitely an early riser. Usually around 5-6am, if I feel like giving myself a sleep-in morning it'll usually be 7-8am. On the rare, rare occasion I've managed to sleep all the way till 9am but that's seldom if ever 🙂

I'm a serious night person. And I prefer to go to sleep after the sun comes up because of the sunrise and because of the calmness of the night. in the hours 4-7, the world is so still, so calm, so peaceful. The sunrise is beautiful. The air smells beautiful and fresh, new. It's all so calm. I like to have my active parts of the night between midnight and 4 and spend 4-7 winding down. I like to go to sleep at like 7:30. If I could sleep when I wanted to, that's what I'd do. And get up at like 2-3 PM. Maybe even 4 or 5.

I love that quiet time of night too. It's relaxing.
I've gotten old in the way of waking up early. The days I leave the house I set the alarm at 6.00 am even if I don't have to leave for almost 3 hours.

And for the sake of this discussion, "rising" means up, fylly dressed, and ready to start the day, not lying in bed or on a sofa reading, writing, or surfing the net.

Now that changes things a lot. I'm in no rush if I got nowhere special to go. It can be hours and hours before I'm fully clothed, if I do it at all that day. Being home in comfortable but not "spend time with people" clothes happens a lot. So by that I guess I'm a late riser even if I consider waking up after 7.00 am to be unusual. Yet I prefer night time most of the time. Besides in winter since it's nice to get a little light.
