Ok I know I'm being a bit artsy fartsy with this but we have a lyrics thread and 'what are you listening to' thread, so why not this! I thought we could share our favourite poems and poets with each other! We're a cultured bunch so why not!

This is probably my favourite poem

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree

I WILL arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the mourning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

William Butler Yeats

I like "The Hollow Men" by T. S. Eliott. It's rather long so I'll just post my favourite verses:

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death’s twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

Excellent thread idea. :: tu ::

Belongs in the Watcher's Diaries though. Moving it now. 🙂

EDIT: Sorry. A thousand pardons. Made a mistake. It happens. Only human here. My bad. Moving this back to Social Studies.
