E.L. James held a Twitter Q&A on Monday and solicited questions from fans all over the world who wanted to know things like what kind of music inspires her, which scenes in the Fifty Shades of Grey series were the hardest to write and, uh, other things.

Some users turned on the author and called her out for alleged homophobia and glorification of abuse in her work. Needless to say, it didn’t go so well…

I know, I read an article with her mom in some Sunday trash paper a few weeks ago and she was saying how hard it was to face the public and all the negative reaction she's gotten. Why, if her mother thinks this, would she go ahead and do a twitter q & a where literally nothing can be screened?

More exposure!! There is no such thing as bad press. I bought Grey because how bad everyone said it was. So I filled her pockets just because I wanted a taste of it myself. She got the fans money, now she is trying to get the sideshow watchers money..

Here.. take me five dollar!
 
There are better ways of doing that, though. Twitter is an open forum, they have no control here. Someone with even the tiniest drop of sense in their heads should have had the forethought to say 'well, wait a second. She hasn't exactly got the best track record with the people who post most on the internet, maybe twitter isn't the best way to do this'.

Also, can't believe you paid money for that thing. This is what friends and libraries are for, lol.

First.. it's too new for libraries.. second.. once you buy into the EL you notice how quickly you lose friends!! The skirts I lure to the lair see Grey sitting on my coffeetable and they leave quickly. It was not the aphrodisiac that I hoped it would be.

I got through maybe a dozen pages or so.. I think I would have liked it, especially the character, but it just seemed as though the writing was too elementary.

See, this is one of the main problems I have with this series. In the hands of a good, competent writer, it could have been brilliant. It could have been one of the best BDSM themed books to ever be written. Instead, it's notoriety comes from how badly it's written and naive readers who don't know any better.

I think the internet has taken away our innocence, lol.

I agree.. even moreso the Grey book because he really is psychopathic. But it's just treated as fluff. Rather than being a novel of importance.

It made me wonder if she lives in a cave or if she's surrounded by sychophants that have crawled so far up her *** that she honestly believed that an unregulated forum would serve her.

Some of those tweets were priceless though, so I'm glad she did. 😉
 
I think she seriously thinks she's a good writer. There are tons of people out there like that who honestly believe they are the shit and not just famous by accident. Even non-famous ones who think they are uber talented when they're just not.
 
That makes me mad and cracks me up at the same time. I'm like fine if you just write whatever to make money off of it, but if you actually think THAT'S good writing...
 
Honestly, I feel some pity for somebody THAT deluded if they think they're in any way talented because somewhere along the road they're gonna get a huge wake-up call.

This was really funny though, maybe she'll finally get a clue as to the quality of her own work.
 
I read one of the responses to an actual fan asking about what she was working on now, and she was like, a couple books, "both romances". And I'm like, so, does that mean actual romance or what you wrote in FSOG and called romance?

The sad thing is, in our society, that's not really how it works. People who don't deserve it get ahead every day and there don't seem to be consequences to face later. How many celebrities have done positively atrocious things that people forget about a week later and are back to buying whatever it is they are selling? Chris Brown comes to mind.

Yeah, sadly I have to agree. Many people get away with being nothing talentless idiots their whole lives...but honestly I can never get that mad at them. Some of them yeah but, they're just so SAD. They don't contribute anything to anybody really.
I like to think that deep down they perhaps have a glimmer of understanding about how pointless they actually are.
Eh, maybe not. 🙁
 
Maybe she was contractually obligated to do this Twitter q&a by her publishers? And they just didn't care about the possibility of people giving her a hard time because they figure that this new book will sell as well as the others?

the new book sold BETTER than the others... thus far.
I don't know... can admit that some had written some funny comments.
But I still thinks this is mostly sad and rather rude. This was an event to ask questions not a competition on who can write the funniest insult.

Don't really care how bad of a writer she is, how crappy these stories are or how much money she has made despite that.
Still thinks she should be able to have a Q&A event without having a hard time from people that don't like her or her stories.

Normally I would agree with you, but (at least the ones I read) didn't cross the line into bashing and she unabashedly did in fact rip off Twilight, so she's got to expect some stick for that.
