I was just wondering if anyone has seen the movie Elephant? There may have been posts like this in the past (possibly 2), yet I thought I might bring it up again.

For those of you who haven't, Elephant is a re-inactment of the Coulimbine (spelling?) shootings. It has to be the scariest most... realistic movie Iv'e ever seen. It REALLY puts things into perspective. I saw it 5 hours ago and I still can't stop thinking about it.

The two boys who did that were Seriously messed up.

I guess what my point is, has anyone seen the movie? what did you think? have you, or will you change the way you live because of it?

I have, the first half I saw a day ago, and for the rest of the night, I still felt like I was watching the mvie, not actually living my life. For the second half, I kept crying out, 'Oh my god', 'Dammit!' stuff like that, and one kid in our class starting laughing once everyone was being shot, and afterwards he said he 'didn't like the plot twist.' My teacher almost hit him.

It's amazing how a life can be snuffed out like that... I think what makes the movie so hard to watch, is the fact that it really happened.
 
I suppose they cant have a serious reinactment as the people who did it are dead now (aren't they?) but I know they'd go on witness thingies and all.

Sounds interesting, but I've never seen it.
 
I saw it a week or so ago. It's really powerful and very realistic. Probably the worst thing was that it was so random and harsh and sinister...the way kids were killed, like that poor girl in the library. This movie is something else...don't know how to describe it really.
 
Yeah I watched this movie like many month ago & it definitly stunned me. The way the movie is filmed, the character, & most of all the Letter fur Elize the the guy plays to the piano. There is such a weird atmosphere, a kind of tension & that was just an awesome way to film this.
When I went out from the theater, I had no word, & I was shocked, & I donno, my friends were talking about it like they do after all movie & I found it just unpleasant. yes, talking about it is great, but it needed more self reflection before to me, & so yep, I guess this film shocked me, it changed my way to see teens around me in a way & I liked it, contrary to what everyone thought seeing my face when out from the theater, lol.
I really want to se other movies by Gus Van Sant now
 
hey Zander havent seen you in a while.

Elephant. a fantastic piece of cinema. in many ways its the best horror movie ever made. in many more it isnt.

it was amazingly show. nothing happens for the first hour yet im not bored. wow

i like that they dont try and explain it and how the general feel is "why"

the scene
where the 2nd killer is taken out
really makes you think its all over and the ending
with the guy and the cute girl in the meat freezer
was so artistcally shot by
not showing what happens
it makes it so much more powerful.
 
Yep I agree Faldor, not showing makes it so powerful. It's like it's not the crude kind of thing we can see everyday on TV, it's suggestive & way much more impressive.
& you're right about the way to film as well! I really liked how he took the time to make us sink inot the atmosphere, following the characters, seeing each point of view. The fridge scene was stunning.
The girls' group had also an amazing part! The way he expressed their shallowness & their despair hidden within, concealed by the look, that's just wow!
 
i just loved how he took away the safety blanket we feel in everyday life and made it frieghtning.

also the way he went from different points of view where great. like when it showed the guy going down the corridor passed some girls then later it showed the girls all fancied him.
 
What is the certificate on this film (i feel so sad saying that) I really fancy it now
