So, for the past three weeks, on a Thursday night, i have settled the old 'derriere' on my couch at 9pm, nestled with a steaming cup of homemade hot chocolate, a plate of assorted biscuits(including Jammie Dodgers, Iced Rings and Pink Panther Wafers...such a cool assortment of refined sugar!!!), popped the televisual device on the magnificent ITV1(what can i say, its as good as BBC and Sky with the added bonus, its a free channel, no license fee, no subscription fee and best of all, so cool Ad's), and watched Mr Patrick 'Locutus of the Starship X-men' Stewart, play Professor Ian Hood, Government Scientist, and thought i should voice my opinion....finally.
So, what can i say about this show......how about MARVELLOUS.
When i heard about this show i saw Stewarts name, i saw Science and i put two and two together and came up with Star Trek: Lame.
A scientist travels the country solving potential national/international crisis....sounds a bit like a group of scientists travel the cosmos solving potential stellar and intersellaer crisis...see what i did there.
Instead, i found myself watching a marvellous scientific thriller with a highly plausible senario with too much basis in reality to be dismissive of it.
Stewart highly intelligent, if a little odd character(his computer skills need work), is thoroughly enjoyable.
The stories that have been so far, Cloning, Viral outbreak and Climate Change, have been of quite high quality, consistently refreshing, especially, as they are concerns of the moment. With these topics, and the fact that news programmes are constantly on about them, its easy to assume we would be saturated with information to not be engrossed in TV based on these subjects.
Fear not, these shows do justice to the topics, and even allow the viewer time to think about the effect these events arehaving on us.
His partner on the Show, Ashley 'Extra's 'Jenson, plays the role if his body guard. She is a strong, character, with her relationship with Wood, a genuine highlight of the show. Jenson and Stewart have an amazing chemistry, one that i for one was not expecting.
ITV had trouble last year with new Drama/Thriller TV, and the Digital channels are close to exploding with New American TV, so i hope that this show is a success and that we can look forward to more episodes of this calibre, with possibilities of further series later.
