Eliza Dushku hunting animals

No, she is killing animals so she can eat. She chooses to participate in the cycle of life in a hands on, non-denial fashion that allows her to be an active participant in nature. Mankind has lost its connection with the natural world and its place in that world, we are mammals, we are omnivores and we are also an integral part of the natural world, not a passive observer somehow disconnected from having any effect on our surroundings.
Eliza Dushku is hardly enduring life-threatening poverty and turning to hunting in the desperate clamour to save herself from severe malnourishment. Humans kill animals for meat because we were meant to. That means killing mass amounts in what is meant to be a humane and quick fashion, packaging them up and sending them on out there to the masses. Eliza Dushku enjoys going out and killing animals, there's a major difference.

The only difference between hunters and those opposed to hunting is that hunters accept their role in nature, while those opposed to hunting deny that for anything to eat another thing dies.
I'm a meat-eater. However, you can't justify riding around getting a thrill from slaughtering animals on the basis that she eats it afterwards. She's not participating in the life cycle, she's participating in a hobby built around death.

Far more animals are killed and displaced for agriculture and urbanization than are ever taken from hunters.
Being a lesser evil doesn't mean it's not one.

As deer, bear and other species are increasingly confined to smaller and less desirable habitats, the need to hunt actually increases for a variety or reasons including but not limited to, lack of available food, increased disease, dangerous human animal encounters that include car accidents, bear and big cat attacks on children and pets and nuisance encounters such as coons, possums, etc in garbage and deer eating the foliage from human gardens.
Do you honestly think that Eliza Dushku has to deal with those problems? Really??

The hunter provides a valuable service in this day and age, that those who never venture beyond the pavement cannot even begin to realize. Although, with todays super markets and fast food life is easier to live, it is no less important for humans to consume food in order to live and when all else fails (as with Hurricane Katrina) the hunter and woodsman will be the go to guy so that you may live.
Yeah, but in the meantime the hunter is the guy that actively goes out and enjoys killing animals despite the readily available meat.

Also: let's clear up something fundamental here. Omnivore does NOT mean that we can eat anything we want including meat. It means that we NEED to eat meat. The only real reason that vegans can survive is because we have ways of fortifying vegan produce with things found in meat that you need.

actually it means the ability to eat both plant and animal not the requirement and it is defined by teeth as ive said before... the reasons things like lions dont eat leaves is because they couldnt properly digest and chew it, while horses cant eat meat because they dont have the proper teeth to tear the meat

also meat isnt the only protein nuts also have proteins

Hunters try to make it a quick death. Theres a video on youtube, a cow being stunned, then throat slit, then slips on its own blood. yeah, very humane. Thats where readily avalible meat comes from. Or 10,000 chickens in cages. Readily avalible *animals* dont have a better life than *hunted* free animals.:cheering:

Whoa, look at your package of meat see that red liquid? That's Blood. We most certainly do participate in the life cycle. We choose to participate instead of deny where our meat comes from. We are hands on in our grocery shopping, we know the health of our meat, we know the source of the food that feeds our meat.

To you meat is a commodity that is readily available, to us meat is a valuable resource that is earned by our own efforts, skills and wherewithal. Choose not to hunt, but don't live in such an insulated world to fail to realize someone, somewhere killed your meat for you.

white avenger agrees: humans being omnivores isn't something that is in question. We are, whether you believe it or not. Otherwise vegetarians would starve to death.

MSchett agrees: What do you think inscizor teeth are for

Maybe I should "rephrase" ... it's not that I think we are *not* omnivores - it's that I know we don't HAVE to be. Humans can live off veggies & grains & fruits & nuts - we DO eat meat, but we don't HAVE to eat meat.

We dont have to drink booze or watch tv either, or do that much at all really, but its goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.
Come on, how tastys a nice juicy burger!

we dont have to eat plants either but eating meat and plants will give u all the nutrients to live a much longer life

Yes - I believe that.

I hate when I say/type things that make me "sound like an idiot" so I really have to CLARIFY that I KNOW the definition of OMNIVORE: from Latin: omne all, everything; vorare to devour -

Omnivores are species that eat both plants and animals as their primary food source. They are opportunistic, general feeders not specifically adapted to eat and digest either meat or plant material exclusively.

Whew. I feel better now.

And like I said... we (i.e. humans) don't HAVE to eat meat, but I am about to indulge in my favorite beef/broccoli meal from my favorite chinese restaurant, so if you'll excuse me...

Protein isn't the only thing we take from meat, and trust me, omnivorous means we need both for subsistence.

That's killed purely for the fact that it's meat. For someone to call hunting a hobby, you have to take enjoyment out of it, or it's not a hobby. Therefore she has to be taking enjoyment out of killing animals. I'm not denying that we kill animals for their meat, that would be absurd.

I most certainly do enjoy hunting and it is more than a hobby, it is a passion. You seem to be equating hunting and killing. This is far from accurate, the kill is only one aspect of a much larger endeavor. For every deer killed, weeks are spent practicing with our weapon of choice, weeks are spent scouting the areas we intend to hunt to identify travel routes, terrain familiarization, stand placement, wind currents, food sources... we learn everything we can about the areas we hunt year around in all weather. Killing and Hunting are definitely 2 different things and although 1 is part of the other, the other is not part of the one.

it takes several weeks for you to hunt deer? When my dad goes hunting he goes to the woods for a day and usually get 2 or so deer
I just wanted to put my two cents into this thread. I know all about this from IMDB boards, and since I'm a PETA member.

I support Eliza. I believe PETA has good intentions and goals, but they easily get lost. I do not support PETA's attacks on celebrities, even ones I don't like. I think us animal rights activists need to focus more on factory farms, fur, testing, etc. And not hunting. Hunting is not torturing animals and it is not cruel.

Anyways. Go Vegan! :cheering:

PETA is absolutely terrible.

that wasn't really called for, especially without any reasoning, but I respect your opinion.
I always wondered why PETA never had something nasty to say about "Buffy" or "Angel," considering all of the leather worn on the two shows.

It's because PETA targets things that they think they can/try to stop. There is really nothing they can do about people who wore leather on a show 7 or 8 years ago.

I have a great fabric that is biodegradable, the most efficient insulator, highly water repellent and renewable not synthesized from oil. This same fabric helps keep diseases like rabies, mange, Chronic Wasting Disease, bubonic plague in check.

I also know of a man who is on the verge of having a cure for some types of cancer, they just finished testing on animals with great success. This same potential cure for cancer has also caused salt water to burn, turns out the RF waves separate the hydrogen from the oxygen using sodium as the catalyst, a new source of fuel potentially.

My question is why does PETA offer a huge reward for the first to produce edible meat in a petri dish? Where are the cells going to come from? How are they going to prove the safety of said synthetic meat? Answers: The iron and proteins in meat are needed by humans. Cells will come from healthy animals and the safety will be tested on carnivorous or omnivorous animals, such as pigs, cats, dogs etc.

We do NOT need Meat at all. We don't. Our body was not meant for it and that is why it is bad for us, aside from the protein.
On another note, this may sound selfish but I don't care what diseases it cures, I'm with Ingrid Newkirk. Animal Testing is wrong no matter what. Use alternatives.

If we weren't meant to have meat we would be herbivores, we clearly are not herbivores.

Animal testing is ridiculous, not only for the cruelty aspect, but because pharmaceutical products would be much better tested on human skin cells, which are easily separable from a person so as not to cause any damage to the person in question. Testing something on monkeys is irrelevant to using it on humans.

PETA kill more animals each year than any organization they petition.

Not anymore, no. But we are meant to be.

I agree.

Yes, by euthanization. What do you expect an animal rights group that rescues millions of animals a year to do?
They cannot afford to keep all those animals without homes!

From our inception it has been clear that we are omnivorous. We are like monkeys, we are not monkeys, we need meat. Our system can't properly digest red meat very well because few animals can, that's a carnivore thing.

They take in animals and if they can't get a home for them, they kill them and chuck them into deep freezers to discard later in the year. That's not a very pleasant thing to do by any stretch of the imagination, PETA is organised hypocrisy. I used to go around with my sister handing out animal rights flyers, PETA is baaaad.

Humans are herbivores by design. And there are plenty of meat alternatives. Click.

The EUTHANIZE them, and then probably yes, put them in a freezer. But it's not like they are living. What else are they going to do with their bodies? No offence to you but just because you used to hand out flyers doesn't really mean you know all about PETA being bad...

where are you getting this information from? Petakillsanimals.com? People eating Tasty animals?

Please.

I don't believe in hunting for fun. I believe in hunting for food and survival. But not fun. I'm not a vegetarian but if you kill animals for food, I'd rather the animal was killed with as little pain as possible.
