an all white cast...i'm not surprised....this show hasn't even begun and i don't like it already...stupid ass show...the whole seeing the future thing is played out

As for a minority character........A one legged black gay dwarf called 'Trousers'..........::mmm::
 
I hope it is good, I like Eliza. She is a great actress and I would hate to see her in something crap!!
 
I'm sorry Eliza, but I for one would much rather see a Faith spin-off than whatever the heck this is... sounds kinda boring imo.
 
Maybe they will have some minority characters as recurring characters. Maybe. They can't pull a Friends and have no minorities in New York City.😱 😱 No offense to the Friends fans. I'm just stating my opinion. We usually don't see a lot of minorities in sci-fi and horror shows anyway. The only sci-fi and horror shows that are pretty good about having minorities in them are Charmed and Buffy. Other shows are steadily coming along though.😉 😉

Why is that no one ever gets mad when a Jew isn't present in a TV show, movie or business? I find this funny, because of all the racial discrimination in the past century, I would say that anti-semitism has been by far the strongest - given that countless millions were killed in the course of a few years.
 
I think people do get mad about how Hews are protrayed...


A better example is Italians. No one cares how they're portrayed on the Sopranos.
 
willow rosenberg is jewish...

and khaych...there are many extinct indigenous people....jewish people are still alive...i'd say jewish people...while have been through the most bull****...have still survived...that can't be said for every indigenous culture....plus i haven't met one poor jewish person....not allot of tabernacles hanging with me and my boys on homestead land...
 
If I went back 200 years the prize (if you could call it that) would probably go to native americans, but it's pretty tough to make a decision the farther back you go.

I have to agree with you about extinct indigenous cultures, though. I guess the real point is thats it's current discrimination that's important, not past ones, although I think setting up quota's is probably the worst thing you could do, because it calls attention to differences, which I think is a mistake. Culture is a huge difference. Religion is a sizable difference. Race is a negligable difference, and doesn't always go with the other two. The friends I hang with every day are black (he calls himself black - so I don't give a damn if it's supposed to be afro-american or whatever lol), chinese and a russian Jew, and I have alot more in common with them than I do with say.. a french person who doesn't speak my language. The more we glorify a difference that amounts to the same as being blond vs redhead, or brown-eyed vs blue, the more difficulties we create.

Italians for instance never would have had fair hair or blue eyes 600 years ago. I'm Irish, and I would never have brown hair and brown eyes like I do, were it not for a little bit of Italian intermingling early on (it's called Black Irish I guess). Same deal with skin color. In another 200 years once more intermixing goes on there will be as many different shades of color as you can count present in the bulk of the population. It isn't important enough to give any notice to. However, it is the common belief that it does make a difference that causes the problem in the first place. If someone was to make noises about protecting their culture, I might be inclined to agree with them, but it's going to take alot to convine me that racial stock is connected to culture in more than a circumstantial way., because my life gives me evidence to the contrary.
 
i wish most people had the same viewpoint as you K...i wish all people had it...but the fact remains that only some people have your viewpoint...in this day and age in which we are led to believe that bigotry is extinct...that can't be further from the truth...

probably when i die...there will be a final score like pinball or something...perhaps enduring racism will be a point-multiplyer or something...lol...
 
I have a feeling it's a bigger issue in the US than it is here in Canada. I understand the reasons for affirmative action in all honesty, and it isn't exactly cut and dried, having definate benefits in kicking the 'racist habit', but I think it proves negative in the long run. Education is 100 times as effective a tool.

The problem is that the 'fight fire with fire' mentality is, of course, catalyst to a conflict. The idea is to stop the fighting, not simply give bigger guns to the less numerous side.
 
people are so against affirmative action...but people who are against it don't give an alternative...its not like colleges admit minorities for the hell of it...

people against it say affirmative action is an injustice...but check these point of views....

Black: We'll enslave your race for more than 200 years...but in the end you get into a college a little easier...

Native American: We'll falk you up the worst...take away all of your land except for some scrub...then we'll kill 80-90% of your total pop through war and disease...but you to in the end get into college a little easier...

Native Hawaiian: Take away your sovereign nation...take away your land...take away everything that is hawaiian...including your language...even your soul...assimilate you...and just for good measure you will have your population cut to a tenth...but hey...you get into college a little easier because of diversity...

seems like a fair trade off
 
Irish: While once the scholarly capital of the european world, you will be raped and pillaged over the course of 1000 years first by the vikings, and then by England. Of course, none of that actually happened to me, and I really have no idea what I might have inherited, were it not to have happened, but I get by nonetheless.

The idea that a person deserves more simply because of something that happened to their grandfather is ludicrous. If that was the case, then we should be slaughtering the Germans in revenge, and yet I strangely don't hold it against them in this day and age. We are all products of a brutal past if you look far enough. That's not the issue. What is the issue is what goes on today; here and now.

Still, I agree wholeheartedly that to replace affirmative action as a catalyst for change you'd need another solution. Certainly the rednecks won't come around on their own. Education of the masses is a grand scheme, but can take hundreds of years. Affirmative action may be a necessary evil, there may be a better solution, but I suppose one hasn't come along yet. It's certainly better than allowing uneven discrimination, even if it creates a little (reversed) discrimination along the way, in order to balance the scales somewhat.
