Question: did some of those threats at Rowling get tweeted, and the one doing so NOT banned or censored? (Because if so then my very negative perception of twitter was apparently too generous.
On the whole they're anonymous accounts with low numbers/zero numbers of followers so they rarely go discovered by the mods. They are, however, relentless and numerous. There are a few that get banned but the vast majority of these accounts just disappear/stop functioning in between vitriolic, misogynistic tirades.
Sometimes accounts that have been dormant (and unbanned) for months spring to life again to virtuously signal how horrible JK is and how desperately she needs to be killed. Y'know, for tolerance.
While I'm at it, did any in the "Rowling is transphobic" mob call out those threatening rape and violence and carrying out other activities that made Gamergate infamous despite at least a few in Gamergate saying that was despicable and not helping their cause?
My understanding is that, in general, the trans mob thinks that someone powerful like Rowling saying 'hateful transphobic things' and calling her out for it is more important than 'a few' anonymous trans ally trolls.
So no, I haven't seen any real pushback against the baying twitter mobs. Consequently Rowling apparently has enough individual threats to wallpaper her house.
Also, as a sidenote, a good way to shut these idiots up is to ask them to quote something
hatefully transphobic that Rowling
has actually written. Not a bad faith article or 'imaginative interpretation' of her words, but her
actual words. Ultimately they can't, so they just block you. Such is their thought-process. Like any cultist they have problems thinking for themselves against the doctrine they've been taught.
With Musk taking over Twitter I hope they disappear. I doubt he'll outright ban them (except maybe direct threats and not the 'I hope you die...' kinda things) but they might just go back to Tumblr or something and sulk.
