Emma Caulfield's feature-film debut, Darkness Falls, has grabbed the US number one movie slot in its opening weekend.

In the film Caulfield, better known as Anya, plays the sister of a young boy who is being hunted by a malicious spirit known as "The Tooth Fairy."

Speaking to Sci-Fi Wire, Caufield says she took the role solely for the chance to work with director Jonathan Liebesman. "I had seen a short film that he had done, and even though there wasn't any script or anything at the time, I said, 'Wow, I'd go get the guy coffee.' I really wanted to work with him."

Despite the horrific elements, Caulfield said she would classify the film as more of a psychological thriller. "I didn't see it as a horror film," she said. "I mean"¦ not like a slasher horror film. It's definitely not a Friday the 13th or anything like that. You hear a lot. You think you see a lot, but you don't really see a lot, because it's so quickly cut and it's so dark."

I saw it last weekend. That was really one scary movie. I came in with a bit of low expectations because I thought I've outgrown all that being scared by scary movies. After all the R-rated movies, I thought I would be immune to that. Boy was I wrong. 😱 😀

Let's start with the scene where the boy's mom was killed. I think it was the musical effects that did the trick. LOL Even so, I almost jumped out of my seat. The baddy is a woman who was wrongly hanged for a crime she didn't commit and now is a creature out to tear apart the whole town.

There was a scene that I thought was amusing. It was when Kyle and Larry were driving in the woods. Kyle wanted the go to where the boy was about to go into sensory deprivation before the Tooth Fairy strikes. Larry wasn't going to where Kyle wanted to go but, instead, was berating him for being in jail on suspicion of killing the guy he met at the bar. So here they are, driving into the woods, night falling, and Larry goes on a rant and then he said a dopey line right before the creature strikes them. I guess the writers intended to make us want to hate Larry but it worked.

On Emma's part, she did a very good job. I thought the job she did as the character who was concerned about her brother was believable. Still, I'd like to know why the big difference in ages? Is her character supposed to be in her teens? Otherwise, I would like to know why one sibling would be in her twenties and the boy's about 7 or 8.

I wish this were a stand-alone movie. Something that always bugs me about horror/terror-type films is that they always like to make sequels, which cheapens the quality of the first films. It looks like they've set this one up as well but I wish they didn't.
