Buffy comes in at number 2 which i was delighted to see. I thought it would be much lower then that, i'am glad its finally getting the recognition it deserves.

True what it says about all of the characters playing a massive part in making the show what it was.

Buffy was consistently great, deserves its place as one of the best tv shows of all time in my opinion.

I love Empire, they always have such high praise for Buffy, they make mention of the series loads throughout their issues!

Thanks for posting. I feel so proud that I'm a Buffy fan. 😀

And look who's at 14th even they got cancelled. 😉(I haven't looked through all the 50, though. Hope to see Angel make it too.)

EDIT: And Angel made it at the 21st. 😀

No worries thought people would like seeing our show getting the credit it deserves.
This might not be the right crowd, and don't get me wrong I'm glad BtVS is so high up, I just wish that "The West Wing" was number one. Guess the Sorkin-less seasons hurt it a bit. Don't think "Lost" should be so high (#5 I think"). I like it but come on, fifth best TV show of all-time ?

West Wing? You mean the show that robbed Buffy of countless awards. Your right this isn't the right crowd to be stating your love of West Wing.:biggrin3:

Soz bro, I've been rewatching The Wing recently & it's rekindled my love for it :)

I think I am the only person who has never seen a single eppie of West Wing and I doubt I ever will. And that say a lot since I watch EVERYTHING.
Wow that's so good. 🙂 Why the hell is Friends 7th!? And cummon The Simpsons 1st?
hmm..

I saw this some time last year, and it's weird going through it again now. Heroes at #15? Please, that show lost it a long time ago.

Heroes season 1 was amazing, every season after that I try to forget that they exist. I'm glad Buffy is so high, it deserves it. Also, not to derail the thread with a Star Trek debate, but come on, TNG ahead of DS9?

TNG ahead of DS9 sounds about right to me :)

when DS9 was good, it was GREAT, but when it was bad, it SUCKED. TNG was much more consistent in quality. :)
pieceofgosa agrees: Soz bro, I've been rewatching The Wing recently & it's rekindled my love for it 🙂

No worries mate i'am getting the exact same feeling with Buffy at the moment. For the last 2 nights i've been up ridiculously late watching moments from near enough every episode of season 6 to season 7.

These seasons get criticised a lot but some of the emotional moments are played out so well by the cast and for me personally both seasons are still incredibly enjoyable.

In fact with Buffy i've never found myself thinking i'am close to walking away from the show. I got that with Heroes after season 2, it didn't grip me anymore. With Buffy i was always gripped, i couldn't wait to find out what happened next and that was for 7 whole seasons.

The core fans Buffy had was down to it being consistently brillant, people may not have agreed with things that happened in the later seasons but they still watched because they never fell out of love with the show. That's a sign of great programme.

Angel was only resurrected after his death in Season 2 because the network decided to greenlight a spin-off show.

OMG, I had no idea! Just imagine what way the show would've gone without a spin-off!

Though what they write on Angel,
The supporting cast (made largely out of Buffy cast-offs) were never as appealing as their Scooby gang counterparts but the show was a worthy addition to the Buffyverse nonetheless

Does anyone else disagree with that? Frankly, one reason why I like AtS better than BtVS is because I think it was the show that ended up with the better half of the characters...

re: simpsons number 1
Well it might not be the best show for us, but it has been around for impressively long. To be correct, my entire life (started in 89, I was born in 89). How many other shows can you name that lasted this long and achieved cult status?

Also glad to see the X-Files in the top 10 😀
Of course, the long-running 'Myth-Arc' conspiracy plotline would have baffled Einstein
(source: still website in opening post)
Oh so true...I don't think anyone really gets it, the writers included. Apparently, some fans came up with some question of when something happened in the timeline, and Chris Carter couldn't come up with any date, because there was always some event in the way. So yeah, NO ONE has an overview there.

Personally i preferred the characters in Buffy to the ones in Angel. Don't get me wrong i liked Cordelia and Wesley but for me they didn't compete with Giles, Willow, Xander.

Both shows were great but for me Buffy was the better show.

I didn't know about the whole Angel resurrection only occurring because they wanted a spin off. I guess we and Joss can count ourselves lucky that we didn't lose the character of Angel.

He was an integral part of season 3's storyline, without him i couldn't foresee that season being anyway near as strong.

Obviously Angel the television show would never have occurred if he hadn't been brought back. We would have missed out on many great moments plus it would have also affected Buffy as episodes like "The Yoko factor" would never have happened. Amazing when you think how crucial that decision was and the impact it had on the direction of both shows.

West Wing? You mean the show that robbed Buffy of countless awards. Your right this isn't the right crowd to be stating your love of West Wing.:biggrin3:

Oh, I wouldn't say that. I love to see West Wing love. Abslutely amazing show. And yes, it's my all time favourite ahead of any Whedon show. Haven't read the list yet so can't comment on it.

Spread the West Wing message, it should be compulsory viewing.
A list of the 50 greatest TV shows without listing MASH or Cheers is pretty darn suspect if you ask me.

Although I do enjoy seeing all the Whedon stuff mentioned.

MASH isn't on the list?!? That's ridiculous.

Vengeance
Now that you mentionn it, WTF is Mash? That's top 5 right there
Does anyone else disagree with that? Frankly, one reason why I like AtS better than BtVS is because I think it was the show that ended up with the better half of the characters...

I fully agree with you, its why i love the show more than buffy too.

Decent list. Good recognition for Buffy. Have shows like Family Guy, Heroes and the Simpsons way to high, which takes away credibility imo.

Fwiw, my top 10:

1- The Wire (2002-2008) HBO 5 seasons
2- The Shield (2002-2008) FX 7 seasons
3- Deadwood (2004-2006) HBO 3 seasons
4- Rome (2005-2007) HBO 2 seasons
5- The Sopranos (1999-2007) HBO 6 seasons
6- Six Feet Under (2001-2005) HBO 5 seasons
7- Oz (1997-2003) HBO 6 seasons
8- Dexter (2006-) Showtime 4+ sesaons
9- Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) The WB 7 seasons
10- Sons Of Anarchy (200😎 FX 2+ seasons

Does anyone else disagree with that? Frankly, one reason why I like AtS better than BtVS is because I think it was the show that ended up with the better half of the characters...

Well I can't really say I like AtS more than BtVS like you, but I think the characters in Angel were VERY good and engaging. I wouldn't put them below the BtVS cast. I'm even tempted to say I like them more right now, but that usually shift depending on which series i'm watching lol 😛
