if you've ridden public transportation...you have encountered the mentally ill...tell us the heroing story...

bout a month ago...i was waiting at this bus stop...and like this dude was sleeping on the bench next to me...i just watch traffic for a while until i hear the dude start talking to himself...crazy talk...then he wakes up...and asks me "Are you going to Aztecs"...i was confused...i shook my head...then he just got up and left...lol...

This one time, me and my friends were laughing, just, laughing, not at anyone, and this crazy homeless person stood infront of us and said. 'That shut you up didnt it'
I swear, my friends never ran so fast lol!
Thing is, we werent even laughing at him!

I've had numerous dealings. My aunt has fostered kids for years and some have been mentally ill. Because of this I am pretty sensitive about things like that, especially to those that laugh at them. Its not their fault the way the behave, and yes i'm the person on the bus that will voice my opinions to those that laugh at them, regardless of the fact if they are kids or adults. You never know how things could have turned it out could have been you or someone in your family. And how would you feel if someone was laughing at your parents or brother/sister.

My comments are directed to no one in particular in this thread but please keep in mind the sensitive nature of the topic when you post your reply. While it is good to discuss topics like this it should be done with respect and diplomacy, not witty comments about the people concered. All such posts will be deleted with no hesitation. And I know this makes me sound like the bad guy but hey thats my job!

I was on a bus in Chester the other month with my mates, and this odd woman wearing beach flip flops and a shell suit just started randomly talking to us, needless to say the whole bus was watching and laughing she started saying stuff like " Belinda gone to the doctors, you've seen the baby" we just sat there scared for our lives as she carried on and started to get slightly violent "i'll stab you if you go there" all i can say is she must have been a few bricks short of a wall.

You mean other than myself? Well yes, I was sitting on the buss and this guy enters it. He walks up to everyone and asks if they have seen his plastic bag - he explains that its white, its very important that he emphatizes that its white.

So after asking everyone in the buss he starts banging to exit while its driving and says that his plastic bag is outside. Suddenly he just exits and walks onto another buss. 😕

My husbands third cousin is schizophrenic, and he was our roomate when he had his psychotic break, so I had two and a half days living with a paranoid schizophrenic...needless to say, I have plenty of stories.
This is a very nerve-wracking story for me, as his final break, the one that put him in the hospital, we soon discovered took place because he didn't accomplish his plan to murder me.
After he was committed, we found all of these writing's he had that said that I was the root of all evil and plotted out a detailed plan to get me alone in the house without my husband (then-boyfriend) and off me.
Thankfully, my husband stayed home on the day that it was planned. He chose not to leave because my cousin spent the whole morning insisting that they pack up the next day and move to Puerto Rico. He also told my husband that there were people chasing him and when my hubby asked who, he showed him a picture of a folder with a dog on it and told him that he was the leader. My hubby decided that it might not be a good idea to leave me alone with him and stayed home to protect me.

Parts of the story may seem funny, but I assure you, it really isn't. When you see someone you love begin to talk utter nonsense, it scares the crap out of you, I promise.

And obviously this is a touchy subject for me as well.

lol @ raz...sometimes i think i need a little shock therapy

damn carlyh...thats pretty scary dude...people telling you they going to stab you...

lol @ jackie...damn...thats falkin horrible..someone plotting to murder you...

man....they need to keep more mentally ill people locked up...just cause you give'em meds doesn't mean they gonna take it...

i remember this one time at the hospital i used to work at...i was relieving myself....then i look out the window to the street below...there is this chick trying to get away from this crazy lady that keeps falkin whaling on her...i wanted to run down to the street but i seen that the situation was already taken care of...crazy lady was like going ape shiz...good thing some people restrained her...

Nah I don't need shock therapy but most people seem to think I need therapy and treatment, some even consider I should be locked up...Ah well, I don't want therapy or treatment 😛 My disorder is an advantage and a strength! ::wave::

What's worse with my sitch is that even though he's on meds now, he's related to my husband so at large family functions, i still have to see him every now and then-which, suffice it to say, sucks beyond the telling of it.

I'll try to be sensitive, because I do know some people with disorders and don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But in the spirit of the thread, I do have one good story...My mum works as a teacher's aide for ADD kids and whatnot in a public school, and one day, she escorted this little kid down to the bathroom. He came out complaining that there was no toilet paper, and then showed me mom that he had no socks on. He used the socks to wipe his butt! LOL.

That's kinda sad...
Jacklyn~ I am so sorry. I have lived with some freaky people but never anything that bad so far as I know...

I have met a lot of crazy people. I think some of the worst ones are in my own family though. I worry sometime about it being hereditary. I know it's too late for me (no I'm not making a joke) but I worry about my kids. My aunt has it the worst of all of us. She is INSANELY obsessive compulsive and she has so many anxiety disorders it isn't funny. She freaks out so bad all the time that my mom and other aunt want to have her institutionalized for her own safety. She has like 50 something cats and even more strays. The city has her on constant watch and she thinks the neighbors have snuck in and bugged her house. She has lost so much weight she's like 95 lbs and has constant migranes and vomiting and diareah spells. She is very sick. We are slowly trying to help her out but she makes it very difficult sometimes.

wow...your aunt is pretty much the most mentally illest person i've ever heard of...hope she gets better though...

Well I've seen many of them on the bus, ect... but I was older and didn't personally know any of them so it doesn't really freak me out, they tend to leave me alone, and if they are talking away to themselves, I just ignore them... (I can only hope that others aren't noticing when I do the same... while I don't ramble psychotically like I'm talking to someone who I think is there, I do have a tendancy to talk to myself, very often... )

But the thing that freaked me out, well the first thing... was when I was like 6 and I was staying overnight at my grandmother's house when my uncle stopped by (he was schizophrenic) and he came through my grandmother's room, where I was watching TV and into the bathroom where he proceded to frantically search through drawers looking for something. I'd heard stories, cause he actually lived up near to me at the time, and my mom was always insistant that I never open the door for anyone, even family, incase it was my uncle... anyway, it freaked me out when I was at my grandmother's. He eventually killed himself a year or two later.

How sad. I'm sorry to hear that Winifred. It's so sad watching someone you know and love fall into that kind of thing. So very very sad.

Soulgasm~Thank you. I hope she does too. One minute I think she's getting better and the next it's a story about her purposly not eating so she will slowly detiriorate and give herself a heart attack. We'll keep trying though.

wow...fred's uncle was ill....i think suicide is the saddest thing...ever...

On the subject of mentally ill people, usually the ones who talk to themselves aren't too hard to cope with, they're not usually violent in my experience,it's the quiet ones you've got to be careful of.....I was once on a stairwell of an appartment block and this guy pulls out his knife, not looking insane or anything, and starts cutting himself in front of me!!::disturb: I was scared ****less as you can imagine.......Never knew what happened to him,I ran away called the cops but they never found him.......:: hiding:

holy shiz....i'd be...hella confused...i'd be like...arent' you supposed to try to use that on me...??

i'd give him money to stop cutting himself...lol...perhaps a break through in criminal tactics...

I haven't had so much encounters, as it runs in my family, similar to Rayne. As some know, my father was physically abusive for many years and I havne't seen him for years. I hadn't seen him for 8 years, had changed my surname to cut all ties with him, when I got a phone call from my Aunt, "just to let you know your father's in an institution with Alzheimer's so bad he doesn't remember you" Yeh gee thanks, just what I wanted to know.

I may seem completely unsympathetic wih regards to my father, btu it's not somethig I'm embarassed about. The abuse he inflicted wasnt' due to his illness; Alzheimer's changes one's personality; people that ere passive become violent, whereas now he has become completely passive.
