Enter The Dragon Remake

I just heard that this super classic martial arts movie is to be remade with Jet Li taking the lead role, and I was just wondering if anyone else shares the opinion with me that it borders on blasphemy. Some things are sacred (or should be) and as such should be left alone.

Actually, that might not be such a bad idea, as far as the Mr Miyagi casting, Pat Morita had no martial arts training whatsoever before the movie, whereas Jackie Chan is a serious (no jokes, now) martial artist and at least as cood a comedian and actor as Morita.

Recasting "Enter The Dragon," however could only result in a watered down version of a classic. Bruce Lee was an icon, the standard by which everyone who comes after him will always be measured, and in my eyes, Jet Li will just never measure up. Hopefully, "Awaken The Dragon," the remake's working title, will be different enough from the original to be just short of unrecognizable.
 
I agree White Avenger that Enter the Dragon should not be re-made. I was not even aware of this. I love Jet Li but there will never be another Bruce Lee. If I were Jet Li, I wouldn't touch this project. Bruce Lee had such a big but troubled life which ended too soon, and it followed his son who died too young in such a weird accident. You're absolutely right. Somethings need to be left alone.
 
I can't even understand why someone would even consider remaking this. It's one of the most perfect movies (imo) in the history of film.
In fact...why remake any movie?
It's almost always a disappointment. I can't stand the fact that there are so many unemployed, talented, and creative screenwriters struggling out there working day jobs at coffee shops while stuff like that House of Wax remake gets made and shown across the US and in several other countries.

I really hope Jet Li stays away from this, he's already a legend in his own right and I think a lot of people would lose so much respect for him if he stepped all over Bruce Lee's legacy.

How about this - if you were Jet li
a) You wouldn't be discussing this on a forum
b) You'd be interested in seeing if you could live up to the greatest Martial Arts experts of all time and
c) You'd be looking at the MEGABUCKS deal that was sitting on the table thinking 'thats alotta money'.
 
Why can't they leave the classics alone?

Thanks to my dad I grew up on John Wayne and Bruce Lee - although Bruce Lee won out in my opinion. This movie is iconic, that scene in the elevator, everything about it is just perfect.

Re-making this is like when the re-make The Crow into a B Movie and then a TV show (don't even get me started on that one!)

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

I have to agree with you almost completely, all except the part about Wayne and Lee. The Duke could shoot the Dragon's eyes out before Lee could even get close enough to throw the first kick. John Wayne was a legend. Bruce Lee was only an icon.
 
NOOOOOOO, this movie should not be remade. My God it's a classic. I love this film. I just watched it the other day for like the 100th time. Yeesh! I am sad.
 
Why do they need to remake everything? Some things should just stand on their own.

Also, touching Bruce Lee's career seems to have something of a curse attached to it. Not sure why Jet Li would want that.
 
This is just madness! can no one come up with anything new anymore? I mean if they are not remaking movies, BADLY, they are sampling music to make worse music and then you go and turn on the tv hoping to find some reprieve and what do you find reality television!!! Originality seems to be a thing of the past!

Enter the Dragon? why would you even think it let alone do it! While they're at it why don't they do a new Gone with the Wind with Paris Hilton!!!

Scarlett O'Hara and Rett Butler are perfect as are! we don't need any alterations at all...really though does it not depress you to be surrounded by pretenders? I just can't help but feel that nobody is bringing something new to the table. I'm genuinely struggling to think of Movies, Artists, Writers, Poets from the last decade or so who will be taught in schools.

Well, the Coen brothers are still active, and they're taught in schools. Same with Spielberg and Polanski and Francis Ford Coppola. Baz Lutherman is really contemporary, and I'm pretty sure his Red Curtain series will be taught. In TV, my guess is that Joss will be taught, if he isn't already. I also think the boys from South Park will be taught. Same for whoever is behind "Lost." Actually, a lot of really interesting stuff is happening in TV these days. As far as literature goes, that's a little harder for me to gauge, if only because that business is in such a state of transition right now. Also, it takes a lot longer to establish something as "classic" in print. We literature folks are a snobby bunch. 🙂 I don't know jack about art, so I can't say anything about that, either.
 
All those directors are long established...I duno maybe it's just me and I'm letting my cyncism get the better of me but my uncle tells me how he was there for Seamus Heaney's first reading of Death of a Naturalist and knew it was something unique, I can't think of anyone except maybe Eminem that has shaken music to it's foundations in the last God know's how many years! I think I need a literary revival!

Apparently, darlin', you never heard of "Scarlett" the novel and mini-series sequal to "Gone With The Wind." (And Andrew would have loved the mini-series, because TIMOTHY DALTON played Rhett). As the REAL Rhett Butler would say about it, "Frankly. my dear..." (You didn't really think I would miss the opportunity to toss that in, did you?)
