Okay so I started watching all the seasons for the first time a few weeks ago...as you can see I am a bit addicted since I am on season 5 already. Anyway I was totally blown away at the end of that episode...Buffy and Spike?? They are disgusted by one another...or maybe they were just disgusted by the feelings they had for each other...hmmm. It's a love hate situation I guess.

Anyway if Spike has no soul, then how does he form feelings for another?

Wait one sec...that was Harmony in the bed with Spike...not Buffy...so it was dream? I had thought it was Buffy in the bed with him.

It was a dream. And Spike does have feelings, as you will notice. Do you remember hiow the Judge in season 2 said Dru and Spike had feelings? Turn sout it's more than we thought...
That's not so confusing.

Confusing is things like trying to figure out how Spike's vampire minion entered Buffy's house in Season 2 Halloween uninvited when the 'rules' for such were already established. Sure, Buffy wasn't herself, but Joyce still lives there, right?
Unless you subscribe to the theory that vampires can enter any house that is currently "unoccupied" by the owner and await their arrival home that is.
Now that's confusing. Keep watching... there's other things that are far more confusing than vampires who show emotions.

Was it Spike's minion? I always assumed it was a fake vampire, one in custom who got "turned" and could therefor enter.
Yes, it was a dream. As far as Spike realizing he loves Buffy, Spike has always still had a bit of humanity in him so even though he's soulless I think he's still capable of love.

I'm so excited for you, watching it for the first time.

It will be a rocky, in many ways horrible, road, but hang in there, it's amazing.

He's always had feelings. He loved Drusilla after all. And,
he still loved his mom when he had been turned. Not like Angelus who ate his family up.

Angel recognizes it for a vamp and calls for a stake. So unless you discount his whole "smell" thing and that he simply just can't identify a real vamp from this one it's a moot point either way. Either the rules apply, or they don't.

As far as Spike realizing he loves Buffy
I'd question that really. Faith in Buffy's body is the one who really sends Spike on his journey to the Mad Max Buffydome back in season 4.

It's not always black and white, this is the Buffyverse, the rules bend all the time. And this isn't exactly breaking the rule, if this vampire was a fake one. Who knows how that spell actually worked?

But why did you assume it was Spike's minion, and not a non-minion, or a fake vampire? (I'm assuming it's a fake vamp since his outfit looked very costume-y with the white fluff and gold-waistcoat)

How about in Fool For Love, the 1988-flashback scene? *spoilers* Buffyverse Dialogue Database - CLIP: 'Drusilla: why won't you push her away? (South America, 1998)'

Could be that he was already into her back then.

I went back and saw that Spike sent out minions to get Buffy after this scene. So I was mistaken there.

The point of Mssparkle's OP was concerning the Buffyverse's confusing events.

Willow was a ghost with all the abilities; even walking through walls. Xander was a soldier, who gained knowledge and abilities he previously did not possess. The vamp was a vamp, and Angel knew it. Again, either the rules apply or they don't. A confusing thing.

Since Mssparkle has already watched the 1st episode of this season, Dracula's castle appearing out of thin air should have also confused her.
Previous seasons should have also raised questions regarding confusing events.

Could be that he was already into her back then.
I have a much different answer for that, but it is not appropriate for this sub-forum.
I still stand by my first answer. The difference is motivation.

crazysoulless agrees: You listed "Naked Buffy" as your favorite character? I love that!
Me too. :flame:

Now if only there was a smiley for that!

Spike is not in love with Buffy. He's obsessed with her. He'd had dreams about her before this - in fact, it's my opinion he's been "into" her since he fist saw her - this was just the first time we as the audience had seen a dream of his.

Spike loved Drusilla. What makes Spike different is his ability to love without a soul. He's an anomaly. He's special. When he was turned, some of his humanity remained.

As Sky said - I'm totally excited for you, too. Boy, do I wish that I could watch the show again for the very first time...I was so shocked the first time I saw OOMM I dropped my coffee cup, lol. I was like, BUFFY AND SPIKE! WTF!

Later, though, it will all make sense. Be patient.

And it's not so weird for Spike to fall for Buffy. Think about it; she's an extraordinary woman, the Slayer. She can match him in strength. He respects her.

Also, be careful for spoilers in this forum! I don't want you to be disappointed.

Joan, you don't think he's in love by this ep? I always assume this is when he realized it(or feel in love instantly, whatever). He might have had sex dreams before, but I think this is the first love dream.
When do you think he actually feel in love? Because I think the writers wanted s to believe it was now, since he looked so damn surprised.

I think he was in love by OOMM but that it wasn't the I'd-die-for-you-and-change-to-make-you-happy kind of love until late S5.

.

James has said on several occasions that from the very first scene that he had with Sarah (the Bronze, her dancing, him stalking) he played the role as though there he felt a strong sexual bond with her. (I find it interesting that both Angel AND Spike felt some kind of connection with Buffy from their first sight of her. Certainly, one more or less protective and the other more predatory, but both undeniably stronger than would have been expected)

Skytteflickan88 agrees: You think Spike got more excited about Buffy than the other slayers? I kind of think he was just as aroused around Buffy as he was around them until he got to "know her better".

I personally don't think that Spike felt the same sort of attraction to the other Slayers that he did for Buffy. One of the main things that we learn about Buffy is that, as a Slayer, she doesn't properly fit the mold. She's unique. Special. One of a kind. I think that Angel saw that immediately, as did Spike (and, to an extent, Faith, which would help to explain the rather ambiguous relationship that the two shared). Both men "wanted" her from the first moment that they saw her, and that "want" different than either of them had ever felt before.

I think with Buffy it was different right away from the other Slayers. Buffy flirted back in School Hard. The other Slayers didn't do that. He could immediately see Buffy as his equal when he met her.
I'm jealous too! I love season 5. I had read spoilers so I was just waiting for the Spike/Buffy thing. I knew it was coming, so I wasn't shocked, just really excited.

I think Spike was a very emotional being before he was syred. He was always seeking love as a human. That could contribute to the love he carried over as a vampire.

Neither Buffy, Angel, or Spike seem to fit the mold of the roles they're supposed to play.
