I always tought that was romantic. How she left cross mark on his chest, he was in pain but he didn't said anything, because it was good pain. Pain of his love. What do you think?

I don't necessarily think it was a good pain. It was symbolic. It began with pain. With buffy it ended that way too. It was too painful for him to be around her. He would feel pain because he loved her but couldn't be with her. He's still a vampire doomed to fight evil for all of eternity and he can't have what really makes him happy... It that moment of happiness while he kissed her.... he still felt pain. It burned him. It's almost poetically sad and darkly beautiful.

I love the ending too. 😀

When I was first watching season 1, when it aired, this episode really stood out. There wasn't that many episodes centered around one of the characters at that time, and it felt like we were really getting into the mythology of the show.

I love that moment, I actually love this episode so much! They have such a great connection even in the early days! And just that little cross mark on his chest, gets me everytime!

I see a few people have seen the mark as a sign that it's doomed from the start but I've always seen it more as a sign that they know its going to painful, and its unconventional, but they can move past it. Angel bore the pain of the cross because he was always going to bare pain and heartbreak for Buffy.

I like to look at it that way, anyway 😉

You know everyone are always talking how their love is painful, and they forget all the nice moments. They loved each other, they learned how to be together :)
Ah. "Angel". I'm an incurable romantic, and love me a bit of heartache by proxy. So yes, I'm in league with everyone who's always loved that episode.

I definitely agree with you, I think it's a good way to say "yes this is going to be tough, but i'm not going anywhere and i can handle it"

well from season 1 "Angel" is my favourite episode...yeah i can't hide...i am eternal BANGEL fan! the end of the episode was one of the greatest scenes i have ever seen...so romantic...so dark...so beautiful...he loves her so much and he endures the pain of her cross...angel and Buffy are very different but they are deeply in love with each other...and yeah i also think that cross-scar symbolises that although she was the love of his life it was very painful to be around her because he knew they didn't quite fit together(and that was before they found out about the curse...)

i just have a thing for tragic lovers...and BANGEL has become my favourite couple!

Welcome, we need some Bangel fans around here :)
I can never really concentrate on the ending because the way the cross burnt him just irritates me. There is no way her cross could've burnt him the way it was shown because of how they were standing. I always go "poor make up boo" every time I see it.

Awesome! It's not just me who focuses on that bit.

Oh, unless it was a very thick cross. The same thing puzzled me thinking of the Buffy/Spike balcony scene in Dead Things (there's no way they could do that unless...)

it was a thick cross...well it was his gift to her right? and also...the moment they kissed...well they were to close to each other...it's possible that her cross touched his chest! oh my God so romantic!!!

No, it wasn't. Angel is taller than Buffy and it is shown that he's hunching down to kiss her. It's physically impossible that her cross burned him the way it did. Now, if she were standing over him, I'd have bought it but like that... no. I know why they did it and it's a great metaphor but it just bugs me.

....

Buffy is a simbole of gradutdie and hope to girls of all ages shes my hero <3 love her 😀:: vampire
