"We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty." A quote that's lived on to be a big part of story about Firefly and its fans. Referring to the making of the movie Serenity.
"We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. And you know why? Because we are so... very... pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die. Huh? Look at that chiseled jaw, huh? Come on!"
Wash and his dinosaurs. As much classic as can be.
Wash: "Everything looks good from here... (beat...playing with plastic dinosaurs over his console) Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive."
(as Stegosaurus) "We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... 'This Land'."
(as T-Rex) "I think we should call it...your grave!"
(Stegosaurus) "Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
(T-Rex) "Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh...now die!"
So just one thing. The english subtitles actually say "Mine is an evil lair... now die!" I got the region 2 dvd. Any difference on the region 1 or 4 dvd or on blu ray?
"I don't believe there's a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful." Cheerful people can be annoying if they overdo it. Don't feel that way at all about Kaylee.
Mark Sheppard. Anyone not liking him? Him, not Badger.
Kaylee getting shot. Joss likes to kill characters and he's said that he wants to have someone in the intro just to be killed in the first episode. He wanted to do it with Jessie on Buffy but it was too expensive. Instead he did a version of it with
So what will happen with Kaylee? First time watcher and unspoiled would you have bought it as Simon did?
"If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And, if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order." Seems nice, those reavers.
Mal: How come you didn't turn on me, Jayne?
Jayne: Money wasn't good enough.
Mal: What happens when it is?
Jayne: Well... that'll be an interesting day.
Mal: Imagine it will.
Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can... How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?
Mal: You don't know me, son. So let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.
Simon: Are you always this sentimental?
Mal: Had a good day.
Simon: You had the Alliance on you, criminals and savages... half the people on the ship have been shot or wounded including yourself, and you're harboring known fugitives.
Mal: We're still flying.
Simon: That's not much.
Mal: It's enough.
Anyone thinking about the lack or aliens and robots? I don't. If I hadn't read it somewhere I hadn't given it a second thought. If you're in space in a sci-fi they're usually around. The reavers can be seen as monsters but they're human so I don't count them.
Not among my favourite episodes of the show but how could FOX air it last? Still, plenty to love. With a show as great as this even the least favourite episode is far from bad.

This episode was originally intended as the pilot, but since the original version didn't suit Fox, it did not air. The beginning sequence was reshot before it did air, to give more of the "action" that Fox wanted. Instead, "The Train Job" aired as the pilot - "Serenity" was the last episode to air.
Also, at the time they were shooting this, Rebecca Gayheart was playing the role of Inara Serra, but Whedon knew that it was not going to work out and so shot scenes with her interacting with the crew in singles, so that the only part that would have to be reshot would be the shots of Inara.
Both Carlos Jackott (Dobson) and Andy Umberger (Captain on Dortmunder) has appeared on both Btvs and Angel.

After a flashback to Zoe's and Mal's days in the wars six years previous, we cut to the modern day where the Serenity crew is running a salvage operation on*a deserted ship and are forced to flee with the cargo when the Alliance show up. Their buddy Badger refuses to buy the cargo so they head off to the rim worlds after picking up three passengers: Book, Simon, and Dobson. En route someone sends a signal to the Alliance and it turns out to be Dobson, an undercover Federal agent, who arrests Simon but is glad to take the whole crew in. He shoots Kaylee before being captured, and Simon forces Mal to flee in return for his doctoring services. When Mal investigates Simon's cargo he finds a naked woman.
The naked woman is Simon's sister River, a government test subject he helped to escape. After ducking a dreaded reaver ship, Mal tries and cuts a deal with Patience, an old "friend" but suspects a trap. Patience tries an ambush but the team escapes just as the Reavers return and the Federal agent breaks loose. Mal shoots the agent dead and Wash manages to duck the Reavers. at the end Mal decides to take on all three of his remaining passengers full-time.
