Plot:
Wash begins to feel threatened by the bond between Mal and Zoe. To see for himself how the two work together, Wash demands that he, instead of Zoe, goes on a mission with Mal to sell the stolen Ariel medical supplies. Unfortunately, the ruthless and sadistic gangster Niska has found out where Serenity is, and captures Mal and Wash and tortures them as revenge for their failure in the train robbery mission (from The Train Job episode). Meanwhile, Inara has another client who is a wealthy councilperson on the planet they're on and to the crew's surprise, the client is a woman. When Zoe learns about Niska's abduction of Wash and Mal, she tries to strike a bargain for their release, but Niska steals all their money and stolen cargo, while releasing only Wash. Realizing that Mal was willing to sacrifice himself for him, Wash persuades Zoe, Jayne and Book and the rest of the crew...
Trivia: On the DVD commentary, Alan Tudyk pointed out that despite the way Zoe and Wash were constantly portrayed, with Zoe being taller than her husband, Alan is in fact taller than Gina Torres. He is 6', she is 5'10''.
In the opening scene, where Simon and Book are discussing the operations performed on River, Simon is looking at a computer display of River's brain. The text that scans past underneath the brain model is lines of Javascript code from a web page.

My take:
-Kind of an odd opening with Simon and Shepherd. The whole analogy between Sun Tzu and whatever -went on with River and the government wasn't exactly apt.
-Foreign badiness returns! This old guy has the creep-factor down pat. And those lashes on that guy? Not fun. And I think he stole Faith's dagger"¦
-Okay, Preacher and foreign badiness are both quoting lines about men being pushed to their limits. I have a sneaking suspicion that might be the theme around which this episode will revolve. At least one member of the crew are going to be a deep shi** this episode, mark my words.
Its always nice seeing River just be able to play have fun.
-I have mixed feelings about where I think this episode is heading. Clearly, Wash has some issues going on with Zoe and Mal. That's fine, but my problem with it isn't that it's being done, but rather that it just appeared out of nowhere. We've seen how great Joss can be with foreshadowing, so to have this whole jealousy arc materialize out of the blue is kind of odd (even though I love a Wash episode)
-I love how Jayne is still eating the same apple off his switchblade.
-Okay, I like the councillor right off the bat . "I'll be in my bunk". Awesome Jayne.
-Man, preacher is going buck on the bench press. He's actually lifting a stupid amount of weight for someone his age. And him being able to identify gun and ballistics matches on sight of a wound is pretty nuts. There's more than meets the eye with him.
-Wash's little freakout after being kidnapped was hilarious. I don't think he's built for field work though.
-Mal and Wash arguing about Zoe and relationships while going through electric torture and them trying to head-shrink the other's emotional problems was hilarious.
-Zoe choosing to save Wash over Mal right away was an excellent way to put a stamp on the jealousy arc. Now they can move forward to saving Mal. Good transitioning scene.
-I love the way the whole team just cowboys up.
-This is just a pet peeve of mine, but the way Zoe was firing that shotgun was pretty silly. I mean, to side-arm a gun like that and fire, it would fly right of your hand, even if you're Mike Tyson. Her blasting away without even any kickback was pretty cheesy, even though so many action shows and movies do it.
-Am I the only one who thinks blowing up vehicles and throwing freaking grenades on a space station isn't the best plan?
-There is so much more than meets the eye with Preacher. He's dodging bullets, literally, and making incredibly hard shots seem like nothing.
-River getting in touch with her inner-Clint Eastwood, and then saying "no power in the verse' can stop me" was both awesome and kind of chilling. Pretty stark contrast to what we saw just 30 minutes ago
-We might have just had the best line of the series so far. "Jayne, this is something the captain has to do for himself." "No it's not!"
-I liked this episode, but I didn't find it as good as the previous two or three. I just couldn't that invested in the triangle arc between Wash, Mal and Zoe. It just seemed"¦out of place. There was no hinting or foreshadowing whatsoever that there might be unresolved issues between the three of them. I think the best part of the episode was River towards the end, where she just goes all Jason Bourne on foreign badiness' thugs.
