Episode Pangs : bear was real!

How amazing is that. The bear was a real bear.

Ironicly enough it looked stuffed when you watch the episode 😛

I think it's a good thing they used a real animal and not CGI or something. Has anyone seen The Wolverine? That CGI bear was ridiculous. A stuffed bear would have looked better.

Dam that's so cool!! It's been too long since I watched that ep! I love those behind the scene views, how cool is it that they got a bear!

And on the subject of CGI, am I the only one that like old school special effects more. I mean a bit of CGI is cool, but it's proven to look very fake in some movies, like the bear in Wolverine as mentioned, or the horses in the Hobbit.

Far from it, man! I hate unnecessary use of CGI. Sure, sometimes it's unavoidable, like in many Sci-Fi movies, but normally, animatronics and filming on location just looks better, because it's... well, real.
This is just my opinion, but good examples for the right use of CGI are Jurassic Park (only some of the full body shots and shots of running or walking dinosaurs are CGI) and The Avengers (a bit much, but it looks damn good and for most shots there's simply no other possibility). Wrong use of CGI, in my opinion: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, where they filmed everything in front of green screens... for whatever reason. Most of the shots look ridiculous. They could have used real set pieces, like in Episode I, which looks far better. I don't know why they didn't.

Anyway, for TV shows, I think they often have to use (not exactly great) CGI, because of the budget, however, I guess getting a real trained bear is cheaper than having a puppet built or a bear animated. And it looks good and real, because, obviously, it is.
