Episode That Gives the Best Impression of Buffy

Okay, the title may be confusing, but here's what I mean. I want to get my best friend into to Buffy, and he said he'd watch one episode with me and then decide if he wants to watch it or not. So I've been deciding which episode I want to watch with him. I don't want to watch Welcome to the Hellmouth with him, I love season 1 and all, but it's not BTVS at it's finest. I was thinking of watching one like OMWF or Tabula Rasa with him, cause you don't need much back story for those, but then again, those are mainly humorus, and I want humor/intesity/everything that is good about buffy. So, any ideas on what is the most well-rounded episode of Buffy? And which one shows off Buffy at it's finest?

Scarlett! Go with 'Hush' or 'Band Candy'. He cannot dislike those. 😉
 
I suggest 'Halloween' or 'Hush'. You don't want to spoil him on too much if you start with the later season eps! 😀

ETA: If you really want to pull out the big guns, try showing him Surprise/Innocence!

i made my friend watch HUSH and she loved it cause it was scary and i also told her it won an award so she loved it even more lol.....she still wont watch buffy though. hmph.

I would really really suggest Restless. It's funny. It's deep. You don't need much backstory. It's intense. It's got great acting. It has a great score. It's just an all around awesome episode and a very good introductory one IMO.

I got hooked on the show when I saw a re-run of part 1 like a month after it aired. Turned to the channel right as Buffy was catching Angel and the cut- to Faith's "Meant to." Wow.
 
I definitely agree with the people who have said 'Hush', that's what got my best friend into Buffy anyway. It'll make them want to watch more to see what happened with Buffy and Riley at the end, cliffhangers get them everytime. 😛
 
Yep. Hush. If you want to do season 1 I'd jump right to Prophecy Girl. But really Hush is scary, funny, exciting, and shows the power that is Buffy!
 
I give the same answer to this question every time: Anne.

It has everything that is great about Buffy: humour, angst, action, quotability and a genuine fist-in-the-air, FECK YEAH! moment with "Hi! I'm Buffy. The vampire slayer. And you are?". It's stand alone enough to watch without back story but provides enough questions to make someone want to see what came before and what comes next.

Hush, Something Blue,Tabula Rasa, Him, Fool for love. I would not suggest OMWF only b/c if your friend is going to possibly watch the series then that would be a big giveaway.
 
Hush and Band Candy are great for this. I used The Body with my mom because I didn't care about her being spoiled about Joyce's death and I knew she would love the episode and that worked well... I used Hush with my dad and he enjoyed it too.
 
I don't recommend showing outside of the high school years, I think it spoils way too much. Prophecy Girl is a good one. Whats My Line might be good, too. Anything else gives too much away or is very stand-alone, I think. A stand-alone might be a good option, too. Heck, that's what got me into it when I was a kid. Also, if you show it at it's "finest," then there's nothing to look forward to later! (Though there are many fine moments.)

I'm going to say something different and go with "Earshot". It represents what BtVS is about, a seemingly simple plot which gets turned around at the last moment and turns into a very emotional and mature episode

I second that.
Earshot is a brilliant episode that both has some of the funniest moments ever in the show and some of the more emotional.

It's also a standalone that you easily can watch without knowing anything about the verse.

thanks everyone for your ideas!! I think I might either go with Hush, Restless, or Earshot. 😀 I showed my other friend Something Blue, and she LOVED it. Now she is even more of a Buffy fan than I am, LOL. But this guy is harder to please 😀
