Episode title trivia

We're watching "Band of Brothers" these days, and looking at the box I suddenly noticed the episode title "Why We Fight". First, I thought that the AtS episode was named after the "Band of Brothers"-episode, but being me I did what I almost always do "“ I googled. That taught me something most American watchers probably already know; "Why We Fight" is a series of propaganda films from WW2. Now, I'm sure that there are heaps of other episode titles in both shows that have connotations that bears exploring. Here's a thread for those of us who thinks that discussing trivia is a valid lifestyle choice, not oddly obsessive nitpicking. And, of course, for us who thinks that this is indeed oddly obsessive nitpicking, but that being a nitpicker is a truly valid lifestyle choice.

"Not Fade Away" is a Buddy Holly song that was famously covered by the Rolling Stones. I'm pretty sure it's where they got the idea for the name as well.

She may be pointing to the "Band of Brothers"-episode. There's some pretty harrowing stuff in that series. Sweets, we haven't gotten that far yet and for once I am totally un-spoiled, so don't come bearing BoB spoilers pretty please.

I always loved To Shanshu in L.A. - To Live & Die in L.A.

It's a title that you only get after watching the episode & I think it gets cleverer the more you think about it.

"Killed by Death" is a song by Motorhead.

"Out of Mind, Out of Sight" is a play on the proverb "out of sight, out of mind", but in this case it's the reverse that's quite literally true.

"Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been?" is a reference to the question "are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?", which fits with era of the episode (during the time of McCarthyism) the themes of persecution running through it.

"Slouching Towards Bethlehem" is taken from the Yeats poem "The Second Coming".

Interesting (or maybe not) note about the episode "Who Are You": David Fury wanted to call it "Faith/Off" (after the film "Face/Off" which features a body-swap of sorts).

Fear Itself is a reference to Franklin Roosevelt's 1st inagural

Five by Five is, as we all know, Faith's fav catchphrase, but what does it mean? It's a military term used to describe the strength & clarity of a radio signal, five being the highest rating either aspect can achieve. It's basically the same as saying "loud & clear".
