So I was watching Band Candy and thinking about how much this episode made me love Giles. Thought we could have a thread where you say which episodes made you like, or feel an attachment to your favorite characters. And if you feel like elaborating, why those episodes made you like them.

Buffy - Prophecy Girl and The Gift . . . and The Body

First starting loving Buffy with her speech at the end of Prophesy Girl. I mean who didn't? And The Gift. I'm sure that's pretty self explanatory. Then of course I loved her in the Body. How can you not? She brings out such a strong feeling of compassion in that one.

Spike - The End of Grave and Touched . . . and also After Life

I believe it is at the end of Grave that we find out that Spike went to get his soul so that Buffy could have the man she deserved. And Touched. . . yes . .. of course . . . the speech. . . After life, well that look. You all know what I'm talking about.

Giles - Passion, Band Candy, and The Gift

Yeah, because he goes all BA at the end there, with the flaming baseball bat. Band Candy, because of young Giles! and for some reason I liked that it was him that took out Ben. Made me really respect him. For making the hard decisions I guess.

Xander - Grave and The Zeppo

He saved the world! And the Zeppo is pretty much Xander greatness.

Willow - Phases and The Body

I realized that I really loved Willow because she was so accepting of Oz and his recent . . . changes. Also loved her when she was looking for that shirt. She was just so human in that moment.

Anya - The Body and Hell's Bells

She was so human in the Body as well. Loved her. And her walk down the isle, that she knew she was making alone. Loved her even more.

Those are all my main favorite characters.

Epic idea of a thread... I'll post mine soon.
Oh god. Too many. If I even tried, I'd list like every episode for Spike, nearly every episode for Buffy, nearly every episode for Willow... just... too many

haha yeah. That's why all the eps I picked are pretty epic. I love ALL the Spike eps too. :D

I disagree with the word "nearly" before the word "Willow." :D
There was a LOT, so I'll just name a few. Also I'm gonna start with the core four. I'll write the others later on.

Buffy - Innocence, Becoming, Helpless, The Freshman, Touched, Chosen.

You'll notice that most of these episodes had Buffy going through a really hard time. Well, it's in those situations that I got really close to her. I felt for her, and was often amazed by her resilience and strength(not speaking about physical strength here). Chosen was just the culmination of her character! Oh and she kicked so much ass during it. 😉 I think Buffy will be timeless!

Willow - I Robot... You, Jane, Wild At Heart, New Moon Rising, Tough Love.

I know some people will be like 'I Robot? Seriously?!' YEP! I agree that ep was cheesy, but personally I don't think it was that bad, and it's the first ep I really warmed up to Willow's character. I've also realized that even though I liked Will quite a lot in the HS years, it wasn't because of a specific episode... She's just likeable in general. She always has a funny or cute scene, like in 'Reptile Boy' when she gets angry at Angel and Giles, haha! But in S4 she has a couple great eps, like Wild At Heart where AH totally got me tearing up when she almost gets hit by a car, or later on when Oz leave. And then the Tillow romance in the second part of the season. 🙂

Xander - The Pack, The Puppet Show, The Zeppo, The Replacement, Seeing Red.

Xander had great eps, but the one that made me like his character the most was The Zeppo. It's soooo perfect! You follow Xander pretty much the whole time while an apocalypse is lurking around the corner, and what seems to be an unimportant chain of events ends up being critical for the safety of the world, and it's decided by a battle of wills between Xander and... a psychopath zombie. Sounds crazy, but it was awesome! And then the ending is also perfect, with Xand never telling them about what he had done. He didn't feel like he had to prove them anything. He was proud of HIMSELF and that was enough 🙂 Personally, that episode was so satisfying, and imo it definitely changed Xander.

Giles - Welcome to the Hellmouth, The Dark Age, Passion, Band Candy.

I loved Giles right at the beginning of the show. He was oddly funny, and ASH played the character so well! Then in Halloween and The Dark Age we discovered a new side to his character. A darker side. I loved that! It's just too bad that it was never explored further... Passion is one of my favorite episodes, and I felt so bad for Giles in it. 🙁 I totally understood his anger toward Angelus, and even though it was stupid to go there, I cheered him on the first time through, hoping he would succeed! Band Candy was simply the funniest Giles had ever been... We got to see Ripper!Giles somewhat, and him jumping in the air after Buffy punched Ethan is one of my favorite Giles' moments in the show!

Totally agree about Willow in the HS years. All over likeable.
Well, I never really liked Angel, but then when he showed up in the Thanksgiving episode in Season 4, I was actually happy to see him because I was getting tired of Riley. And then I liked Angel more when he kicked Riley's ass in The Yoko Factor.

I've always loved Willow, but fell completely in love with her in Reptile Boy when she shouts at Giles and Angel.

"Well, why do you think she went to that party? Because you gave her the brush-off! And you, you never let her do anything except work and patrol! And I know she's the Chosen One, but you're killing her with the pressure! I mean, she's sixteen going on forty! And you! I mean, you're gonna live forever! You don't have time for a cup of coffee?! Okay, I don't feel better now, and we've gotta help Buffy."

One of my favourite Willow moments, for sure.

Buffy - Welcome to the Hellmouth, Becoming Part 2, Intervention, The Gift, Life Serial, Touched, Chosen

I've always liked Buffy from the very beginning! Her attitude, will-power, assertiveness, humor, everything! And that moment where she looks up the vampires, as if saying, "Don't mess with me or I'll destroy you," gets me everytime. 🙂 Then, in "Becoming Part 2," her fearlessness when she fights Angelus and the difficult decision she made of killing Angel showed other sides to her character that I admired. "Intervention" is another one for me because I truly saw how Buffy can be forgiving and full of love when she forgives Spike. Then, in "The Gift," her speech and sacrifice is epic. "Life Serial" may sound odd, but I liked seeing Buffy try to work in the real world. The fact that she really couldn't adapt made me like her more because she is better than that. And drunk Buffy is hilarious! "Touched" is also key for me because Buffy expresses her doubts and fears, which felt very real. We all have doubts and fears, no matter how heroic we may be. And of course, "Chosen." It's Buffy in her finest hour IMO.

Spike - School Hard, Fool for Love, Intervention, Beneath You, Touched

Like Buffy, I liked Spike from the very beginning in "School Hard." He was such an interesting villain that I couldn't help but be intrigued. FFL then showed another side to this character that I really liked and wanted developed more. "Intervention" (the ending) was also another point where I grew to like Spike more because he felt guilty over the Buffybot and showed he genuinely loved Buffy by protecting her and Dawn from Glory. Spike's penance in "Beneath You" was another episode, and of course, "Touched," with his speech to Buffy.

Angel - Hero, Sanctuary

It really wasn't until AtS that I began to really like Angel. And "Hero" was the episode that did it. "Sanctuary" was another one because I liked how Angel was willing to help Faith.

Cordelia - Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered, Lovers' Walk

When Cordy stood up to her popular friends because she wanted to be with Xander, I really began to like her as a character. "Lovers' Walk" also showed a strong, yet vulnerable side to her that I really liked. Although she told Xander off, she still felt sad about the whole situation.

Those are all my favorite characters. 🙂

Buffy and Angel have always been my favourites. From the second I saw them, they were "it" for me.

Cordelia: Homecoming-When she is swatting the demon with the spatula. It is just the perfect illustration of how sheltered and unaware Cordy really was. She talked a big game but there she was in a life or death situation and she had no clue what to do. That humanised her a lot for me and I think she found a greater respect and understanding for Buffy too. I think she imagined Buffy's existence to be a lot easier and straight forward than what it was and I think that experience in the woods was sobering for Cordy.

Riley - As You Were: I had always been apathetic to Riley. I didn't hate him but I wasn't doing backflips about him either, and then I randomly caught AYW on tv about a year ago and I saw him in a different light. He was witty, and confident. He was kind and he had so much grace. I just loved him and couldn't believe I hadn't see it before.

OMG! I forgot Angel! What is WRONG with me?

Angel - Surprise and Innocence and Sanctuary

It was in those first two episodes that the duality of this character was explored and that's one of the things I find fascinating about him. Plus I think Surprise is one of the first times that I find Angel's love for Buffy to be completely believable. And not just about having a desire to protect her.

And as someone said above. Sanctuary. Because he tried so hard to help Faith. Even after everything that she'd done.

I'm such a loser for not including him in the first place!!!

I adore your banner btw :)
I've mentioned this before, so I apologize for being repetitive, but I fell head over heels in love with Giles when he spit his defiant "in a tutu ... pillock!" at Angelus in Becoming Pt. 2. It was sooooo not what I had expected and I just about cheered out loud (but that would have drawn some strange looks from the other folks at the health club that day).

Ok, for some reason, this question has been circling my mind....

I think I'm going to go with moments that made me love characters just to get some of it out of my head. 🙂

for some of these characters I always loved from the beginning but these moments made me fall even harder.

Buffy - the moment that made me hers forever is in anne when she looks up at the guard who's testing everyone's response to "who are you?" and they're supposed to say, "I'm no one" and she looks him in the eye and says, "I'm buffy, the vampire slayer" then she pauses and asks, "and you are?"

Spike - what really sealed the deal for me was when he grabbed the blade of the sword as it poked through the top of the bus they were using to try to get away from glory...and how he just held it until buffy could get up onto the roof

Xander - honestly, it was him being posessed by a hyena spirit... I really thought he was sexy in the pack (guess I like a little monster in my man) ;-)

Giles - I think it was seeing him kick ethan rayne's ass in the first halloween episode, I think that was the moment when I started really thinking about his character's depths and layers

Willow - watching her go after glory after glory sucked out tara's brain....

(that feels good to get some of this out of my head)... I'll come back and do more

(I really shouldn't be here when I don't have enough time to finish...bad habit!)

ooh all very good moments!

My first Xander-loving moment was when he was possessed by a hyena too! :o
Oz.

Started to love him in Innocence. When he gives Willow the speech about how the first time he kisses her, he wants her to be kissing him back.

And then I loved him EVEN MORE in The Wish, when he gives Willow that speech about how the only reason she wants to talk to him is to make herself feel better.

I just like that he's so incredibly perceptive.

I think what really cinched it though was his thoughts in Earshot.

Oz' brain: I am my thoughts. If they exist in her, Buffy contains everything that is me and she becomes me. I cease to exist.

And all he says aloud is . . . Huh.

Yup. I just like that guy.
