"So," Ellie said as they sat around eating lunch. "Where going to the old Drake castle tonight. Want to come?" Majandra looked at her, confused. The what?
"A castle?" she asked. "Why are we going to a castle?" Tom looked at her and winked. "To do things that you can't tell you parents"¦" He grinned at her, and Ellie hit him. "Ignore him. There is this cool castle up on the cliff. We can normally see it, and you should be able too from your house, but there's been this weird fog there recently." Majandra tried to ignore that. "But it's totally cool and people just hang out there."
"I'll come," Majandra said. Anything to get a way from Isabel for a while. The girl was being insufferable recently. Even more so than usual. Tom grinned at her. "Better take you cross and stake then." Majandra looked at him crudely. What was he on about?
Jake saw that she looked confused, and filled her in. "There's a legend that an old vampire lives up there. Sometimes people go up there to look for his coffin so they can stake him. Legend has it that this Drake guy used to be the most horrendous vampire that walked the earth. He'd kill people for the hell of it, with out even feeding from them sometimes. But one day, he went too far. He fell for one of the servant girls in the castle"¦ that castle to be precise"¦ and he was, like, obsessed with her."
Tom took over. "We're talking Fatal Attraction obsession here. He was like a stalker or something. He said he loved her, and I guess in his own sick way he did. But she didn't love him. I mean, her freaky master, who couldn't go out in the day? So when she wouldn't be his, he started to torment her, tried to turn her crazy. She must have been a really strong child, because she resisted him to the very end, even though he could allegedly do this mojo thing that made any girl he wanted give herself to him. Only this girl, the girl we call Elizabeth, wouldn't give in. She was in love with a Lord, he was almost a prince, a young guy called James"¦"
Ellie went on. "This James was supposedly totally hot, an also totally in love with Elizabeth. He didn't do any thing about it at first, because he feared she would be fired. But he started to see a change in her, and he confronted her. She told him about Drake. That he was killing her friends and torturing her in ways unimaginable to a normal human. She confessed that she didn't think he was completely human. Now, she expected James to run a mile, but he didn't. He was furious and wanted to kill Drake, but Elizabeth knew Drake's power, and she talked him out of it. He kissed her, and swore that he would protect her however he could"¦ I bet he was a total cutie"¦"
Tom took over again. "Of course El. Fantasies about a guy that has been dead for over two hundred years"¦ Any way, things got worse and worse, and when Drake found out about Elizabeth and James he was furious. He turned Elizabeth into a vampire, or so the legend goes. But James couldn't bear to see the one he loved suffer in such a way. He staked her, and went after Drake. Drake made the mistake of turning James into a vampire."
Jake finished the story. "Because he had died for his love of Elizabeth, he came back good. And he swore to make Drake pay. So he attacked. The legend gets a bit fuzzy after that, but we think that somehow James hurt Drake really badly, but he couldn't kill him. So he locked him in his castle, and he stayed there, to this day as far as we know. Waiting, ready to stop the vampire again if he had to"¦ and waiting, hoping, that one day, he would find his princess again."
There was a dramatic silence after that. "That's so sad," Majandra commented. The idea that that guy had stayed, living half a life for all those years, just to make sure that Drake wouldn't ever get the women he loved"¦ Tom cracked a grin.
"Thank God. We have a believer. Most people in this town are a bunch of cynics. They laugh at the legend. But I believe it. And so do you, don't you?" Majandra thought about it. "I don't know if I believe the vampire bit, but I think maybe I think that the characters are real. And that James gave up everything he had for the women that he loved."
Ellie smiled. "I'm like Tom. I believe in all of it. Well, maybe not the fact that the vampire, Drake, is in that mansion, castle thing. We've been there a million times and we haven't seen it." Majandra looked at the grass, thinking. Whether it was true or not, it was a cool story.
Jake shook his head. "I don't believe it. It's against all rules of physics." Ellie laughed at him. "Sorry Science Boy, but this is one thing science can't get around. You can't explain it so it's not real? Load of rubbish."
Suddenly, Amy ran over to them. She looked a little less nervous than earlier. She seemed comfortable around Majandra now, so she was a bit more out spoken around her. "Hey Mouse," Tom said as she speeded to a stop and sat down.
"Hi," Mouse said. Majandra could tell that Mouse was actually Amy's nickname. It suited her in a really cute way. "Have you seen the paper?" Tom seemed ready to make a wise crack, but he stopped when he saw the look on Mouse's face. "No. What's happened?"
Mouse held out the paper to Ellie, who she seemed to see as her big sister. Ellie took it and Tom read over her shoulder. "Oh God"¦" Ellie's face paled, and for once, Tom had stopped smiling. "I baby-sit for that kid"¦ well, I used too"¦" Jake looked at his sister, concerned. "What's happened?"
Ellie put the paper on the floor, and Majandra was looking at a bright little girl smiling up at her. She had a cute gap in her teeth, and her eyes were shining. The headline made Majandra gasp. "˜Girl Found Mutilated.' Suddenly, Ellie started to cry. Tom put his arms around her, and he hugged her. Mouse explained the story.
"They found her this morning. Little Emily Jenkins. They haven't told the cause of death, only that it's suspected murder. A guy found her when he was walking his dog, and"¦ well, she's dead. Poor kid, she was only seven. Her parents must be heart broken." Mouse fellsilent, then added, "And there was another guy too. An old man, a homeless guy. He only made it to page seven. Like they thought, "˜Oh well, who's going to miss him.' Poor guy. Wonder what happened. Probably pneumonia."
Mouse went quiet.
The group stayed silent, reeling in shock. Emily's life had been cut short before she'd had a chance to live. And her parents"¦

Ellie stood up, and so did Tom. "I'm going to take a walk," Ellie said, and Majandra noticed that she didn't complain when Tom walked with her. Mouse made her excuses and rushed off nervously. Majandra sat awkwardly with Jake. She'd only known the guy for two days. "Did you know the little girl?" she asked quietly. Jake looked at her and tried to give her a reassuring smile. "Not really," he said. He sounded concerned when he added, "Ellie did though. Like she said, she used to baby-sit for the Jenkins. Emily adored Ellie"¦" He trailed off, and asked, "Do you want to go to class? It's art again, so we don't need to go, if you'd rather go for a walk or something?"
Majandra would have loved to, but she said, "I don't think so. I'm in the mood for art. It helps me think"¦ Thank you for asking though." He smiled and stood up. He held out his hand. "Off to art it is then." And they walked to class, hearts heavy. Majandra started to think that maybe Angelsville wasn't the perfect little town she had imagined it would be. Vampire, murders and nightmares"¦ She missed L.A.

"So, after their very public break-up on the quad, Lily slapped Evan and told him if he ever came near her again he could say goodbye to Mr. Tinkle. Her words, not mine." Majandra laughed as Jenny filled her in with all of the gossip from her old school. It turned out Evan Bradshore had been seeing Majandra's worst enemy Chloe for weeks, and his girlfriend Lily had found out. "I wish I'd have been there," Majandra laughed. But Jenny gasped, "There's more. Lily went and punched Chloe and gave her a black-eyed. God it was hilarious. Oh how we laughed." Majandra grinned. "Take pictures. That is one thing I have to see. Miss Prissy with a shiner."
Jenny giggled. "So," she asked carefully. "What about you? Made any new friends yet?" Majandra smiled, and thought of her new friends. They were kind of cool. "Yeh. There's Ellie"¦ she reminds me of you. Also, Tom, Jake, and Mouse"¦" "Mouse?" Jenny asked her. Majandra murmured her answer. She wondered what Jenny would think of her new friends. She was sure she would like them. Surely.
They talked for a while, when Jenny said, "I'd better go hun, dad's scowling at me. He doesn't understand our need to talk"¦ he says hi by the way." Majandra laughed. Jenny's dad was an old sfty. "Say I said hi," she said, and they said their goodbyes and hung up. Majandra wanted to ring Connor, but Jenny had told her he was out with his "˜cool' friends.

Majandra suddenly felt extremely bored. They had obviously cancelled their trek to the Drake's mansion castle thing. She was so bored she was even considering going to see Isabel"¦ Surely not that bored? No, not that bored.
Majandra walked downstairs, and quietened her steps when she heard Isabel on the phone. She sat down and listened to her talking. She sounded kind of upset.
"But you promised"¦ No but you said I could visit you. Please, you can't cancel again; you've done it the last five times. You promised"¦ No sir"¦ I didn't mean"¦ I know you job is your priority but you said that"¦ no sir, money over me, I understand. It's fine. Okay, of course we will. I believe you. Just like I believed you all the other times"¦ No sir I'm not answering you back. Okay, I won't stop you. Say hi to the colleges for me"¦ I guess we'll do lunch or something. Goodnight daddy."
Majandra frowned. What was all of that about? Isabel was always on about how much her daddy loved her and that he would do anything for her. Isabel came running out of the living room, tears running own her cheek. She saw Majandra and shouted, "What are you staring at?" before she ran up the stairs. Majandra heard her door slam behind her.
Majandra ran into the kitchen, where her stepmother, Zara, was cooking something that couldn't be identified. Zara looked up at her. "Hello deary." Majandra smiled. "Smells nice Zara. What is it exactly?" It actually looked quite worrying. Zara smiled, and said, "It's lamb and dumplings honey."
Majandra tried to look excited at the idea of eating it, but to put it as politely as she could, all she could say was that her father a definitely not married Zara for her cooking skills.
"Erm, Zara," Majandra asked cautiously. Zara nodded to indicate she was listening. "Does Isabel have problems with her father?" Zara stopped smiling. "What on earth made you ask that?" she asked nervously. Majandra was reluctant to admit that she ha been listening into Isabel's phone call.
"It's just that"¦ she was on the phone to her dad, and it sounded like he was cancelling something. Something that was important to her." Majandra watched Zara's face, confused. The women looked angry, but sad as well. She spoke reluctantly also. "Let's just say that Isabel's father has a tendency for letting people down. Including Isabel." Majandra could tell that was the end of that conversation.
Majandra hated Isabel, but she couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She knew what she felt like. Her own mother had run off with an Italian that was only a bit older than Alex. Carlos, their waiter on holiday. They hadn't known that he had been waiting on their mothers need in more ways than one.
Majandra shook her head. She missed her mother, but she didn't like her. Just then, Majandra's father walked in. He kissed Zara on the cheek, then Majandra. "How are my two favourite girls doing?" Her father asked, beaming at them. Majandra grinned, and said, "We're fine thank you dad." Arthur Taylor put on a look of fake confusion. "What? I was talking about Charisma and Isabel." Zara hit him playfully.
"I'm going upstairs," Majandra said, laughing as her father purposely annoying Zara. Zara was a tiny woman, with really cuter features. A miniscule nose, small eyes, even a small voice. This looked so funny in comparison to Arthur, her dad, who was extremely lean and tall. They were hilarious together.

Majandra walked into her room. As she did, and overwhelming sense of sleepiness over came her. The room seemed altered. Like, it was still her room, but it wasn't. The pink now seemed magic and enchanting. Like one of the rooms in those old fairy tale films. There was energy in it, and even though Majandra had not been near her C.D player, there seemed to be music all around her. A soft, melancholy tune that sung to her quietly, enticing her into the room. She knew she should leave, but she could not. Something held her. Maybe it was the sight of her open balcony doors, the curtains flying in the breeze. The same doors she had locked earlier on.
She took a cautious step into the room. A breeze ran around her, pulling her hair behind her elegantly. As she made her way to the balcony doors, her eyes caught her reflection in the long mirror by the window. She stopped dead, and stared at her reflection.
Everything was different. Her clothes had melded into a completely different out fit. She was no longer wearing her jumper and jeans. She was wearing a dress. A long dress that puffed out at the bottom. It was a beautiful crimson, and it reminded Majandra of the dresses they had worn on all of the T.V shows about the Tudors of Britain. Centuries old. Her hair"¦ it was no longer held down. When the breeze had hit her, it had been slept up elegantly. Her neck was no longer bare. She wore a crucifix, imbedded with small diamonds. She stared, hypnotised by the sight.
Then, she turned, and he was there. He was still hidden in the mist. He held out his hand to her, and even though she didn't want to, something made her take it. It wasn't as cold as it had been in her dream. But there was still something about it that lacked life. Then, his voice, this time more gentle. "It's time for you to remember who you really are."
She nodded, and whispered, "Show me." But he placed his finger on her lip, and said, "Not yet my sweet. I just want you to remember that this is who you are. But soon. Very soon." She nodded, speechless. This guy had terrified her in her dreams, strangling her heart. Only now, she wasn't scared of him. Only entranced.
"Dance," he said slowly. She nodded her head slowly. The lyrics blurred past her, as he took old of her hand, wrapping his arm around her waist. "*Now there's a key where my wonderful mouth used to be"¦ Where can I run too? Where can I hide? Who will I turn too? Now I'm in a virgin state of mind." It was like someone was urging her to resist him, to ignore whatever power he had over her. "Like; do you think I'm sexy? Do you think I really care?" Then, a while later, as they moved around the room, "Where can I run too? Where can I hide? Who will I turn to? Now I'm in, a virgin state of mind"¦" It kept repeating, "Virgin state of mind"¦" And she understood.
She wasn't dancing because she wanted to. She was dancing because he wanted her to dance with him. He had done something to her mind. She pulled away from him, and he was still shrouded in shadows. "No," she muttered. "Get away from here."
The vampire laughed; for that was what he was. She understood that now. He grinned through the fog. "Don't worry dear. I'm going to leave. I'm extremely hungry, and there is one of your friends down there that I may pay a visit too"¦ You rest. I shall return."
Then, he was gone. The dress, the hairstyle, and the mystical force that had kept her in the room"¦ it had all left with the vampire. Majandra was laid in her bed, fast asleep. In the morning, she would not even remember the encounter with the vampire, William. It would be a distant dream, thanks to James. He may not be as strong as William, but he had done his bit.
James stood on the balcony, watching her sleep. William appeared beside him. "That was clever James. Using the music to help wake her up. But you needn't have bothered. I was not going to take her tonight. I was only playing." He grinned, and James scowled at him. William continued. "Oh, and the crucifix around the neck"¦ that was clever James. I know your one of the good guys, but I'm impressed. You couldn't get around the magic I preformed to keep you out of the room, so you did that to try and save your love. I am proud to be your sire," he said, before winking and disappearing.
James frowned in concern as he watched Elizabeth sleep. He had been able to help this time, but William was recovering quickly. He had been correct; James had not been able to break the spell he had cast to stop him entering the house. James knew he would soon have to remind Elizabeth"¦ but he was putting it off, sure he could let her have a few more days of normality.
He watched his love sleep, his head bowed. He touched the window, and whispered, "Good night my darling," before he disappeared into the night.

The next morning Majandra woke up with a smile on her face. She hadn't had a nightmare at all last night. Maybe it was finally over. Thank God. It had been the first nights sleep that she'd had with out being disturbed for weeks. And she felt better for it, wide-awake and happy.
She sat up and stretched. Everything looked brighter this morning. Outside, it was warm and sunny"¦ The town of Angelsville was showing it's true beauty. The sun was shining in the sky, high above her.
Her phone wrung at that second, and she picked it up with a smile on her face. Maybe things were finally getting better. She grinned as she heard Jake at the other end. "Hi," she said, smiling. But Jake's voice was full of anxiety and sadness.
"Mandra," he said quietly. "There's been an accident."
