What do you all think of Ethan Raynes being the big bad on a Buffy season. Share what you think about this idea. If you like it share which season you think would have worked best for this character. How exactly would you go about the story arc? have fun with this one

Raynes could have been at least as believable Big Bad ad Mayor Wilkins. In fact, Wilkins' plan would seem to me to be pretty much the kind of thing that Raynes would do, assuming, of course, that he wouldn't have to remain a giant slug monster permanently.

great analysis
Hmm. I don't think that Ethan is the world dominating type. He seems to be more of the pop up and cause some mischief and then leave. I'm not sure if there is a season where he would fit in as the big bad. Part of what makes his character interesting is his relationship to Giles. So coming at it from that point, I think season 2 would have been his shot. But I would not trade Angelus, Spike and Dru for anyone.

Since he gets captured by the Initiative in season 4, he couldn't have been the big bad for that season. It's not until the Initiative gets dis-banned that maybe we could have seen him come back and it's a shame that he didn't. But I'm curious to see what other scenarios ppl could come up with.

The only other thing I could think of is maybe if he was like the leader of the Trio. Having them build things and trying to take out the slayer. Maybe a Willow/Ethan magic show down at the end. Idk

Well he could escape shortly after that
Season 6. He would have been incalculably better and more interesting than the trio. He would have offered that season some nice levity to balance out the dark seriousness too. The story would have had to change (the willow arc especially, or at least probably) but that would have been great if you asked me. I really didn't like the trio or the First evil much at all actually. Since they were so committed to the potential arc I doubt the people in charge would have ever considered Ethan in season 7 for a moment (even though the first evil was an anticlimactic big bad). So my guess is S6.

I can see how people would think it would make more sense story-wise much earlier, but he seems like exactly what S6 needed.

Oh, you give me such ideas! Throw ASH back into season 6 and have Ethan there to screw it up. In fact, I would love him instead of the nerds. The season would not have been quite so dark. And Giles would have his own hideous personal screw-up! Keep one nerd to fire the gun which would be enough for Giles to evict Rayne.

And, if they were doing this now, I would have it obvious that Rayne and Giles were lovers at one point. 😀😀😀

Liking the season 6 ideas. I'm thinking that Jonathon could be like Ethan's apprentice. He would have the same story arc of eventually trying to do the right thing, just instead of following Warren it would be Ethan. That would change some things in s7, particularly dealing with Andrew.

I think season four would be better. "New man" could be the setup for the season arc,a mislead, you think its yet another Ethan oner and in fact its the beginning of a storied arc. You could still have Maggie Walsh working with Ethan in some capacity or even an Adam like monster/creature that Ethan is in control of through black magik. This would be ideal coming off of the high school seasons,it would be a different kind of villain, and still a familiar villainous face all at the same time.
