Ok, I just had to. I know a lot of us live in EU or Europe and have an opinion on this (US people are of course very welcome to have an opinion too).. So what do you think about EU and EMU? What's good/bad? Do you want your country to leave/join.. or do you just want the whole union to disintegrate?

I think the EU is a good idea from what I know of it and it works fairly well. I believe what sets it apart from our own NAFTA agreement is that there are certain standards having to do with the environment that all countries must abide by...but then again I could have my facts wrong...

Well, there's actually a lot more.. EU is a union, not quite like USA but they're trying to have the same laws about lots of stuff. And co-operate in many ways.. And try to make the countries more and more alike..
Course there's a lot more than that too, but I need to sleep now, might try to explain tomorrow if noone else has already done that.

Yes, corporate lobbyism is a big bad.
My biggest concern is the future of the region I live in called Norrland. Not only are the goverment (in sthlm, of course) trying to suck all the life out of this region by selling out all our natural resources and making us pay pay and pay for what we produce, the EU are trying the same but worse. The farmers here are poor like no other farmers in Sweden and we're loosing population, hospitals, schools. You name it. It's just bad.

And also, I'm glad we voted NO to the emu. Cause when I was in Holland a while ago I saw the downsides of the emu cause I was living in a white trash part of town and it wasn't pretty at all. The people living there told me about the changes that came along with the euro and I just don't want that for me and my family. Sweden is bad as it is already.

Believe me, I was really glad about that too and if I would've been able to vote then I would've voted no without a doubt. I've just started.. not started liking EMU or euro, but it's still that thing.. where we're part of some parts of it but not the whole thing.. And the "we have more influence if we're there" argument (not that I actually believe we could change a lot, little country like Sweden, but more than if we're not a part of it at all, obviously)..

I don't really buy that influence argument, but I understand what they're trying to say. I actually believe that we have more influence having the swedish krona than having the euro. Cause as you say, sweden is a small country and we ain't got much to say and our prime minister Göran Persson is everybodoy's lap dog. So being outside that monitary union, I believe we at least have more power over our own economics.

Thing is, we're already part of the EMU, we just didn't accept the euro. We're still a part of the EU and I don't know if having Sweden outside it would make things better. Not now that we've been in the union for like ten years. Norway, they've got their oil and their fihshies. They don't need the union. But the swedish goverment haven't been using the swedish natural resources to gain economic advantage. So, we're kinda stuck there. My take on it, it's that we do what we can to NOT let this become another united states of america. That's just plain silly.

No I don't buy it either I just meant that we haven't got a chance to change anything (I meant in EMU/EU, not in Sweden) if we're not a part of it.
But is there a point not being a part of EU? I know, I don't like it either, but is the point that we shouldn't be a part of it, or is it that there shouldn't even be union? Cause if there shouldn't be a union I don't know if it's better we're left outside not having anything to say about it.. That's almost like sitting here in Sweden saying USA is bad and they should just stop existing (many people I know think like that).

Heh, that was my thought in the beginning too, "I don't want some wanna be USA!".. But I dont know if that's fare..

i'm glad norway is NOt apart of the EU... and i don't want us to be. i also want us out of some treaties(sp? som Eà˜S og schengen)... casue eu is trying to run us on their moral grounds and value.. like MAKING us have comericals for kids under 12 and haveing this from of alcoholic beverage in the store. the bad things about this is that; we have some laws for a reason.. and then some one who don't live in our contry and who don't really care come in and try and tell us that what we have diseded is wrong... (but don't get me wrong, cause all i just said sounds VERY nationalistick, and i'm not really, casue norway is NOT perfect, far from it. but shouldn't we get to deal with that ourselfs? when we are not apart of EU?)

i guess the eu is based on a good ise, but i don't know.... and they do seem to want to be ONE... same flagg, same currency, same laws..

well i would ratehr have a nordic union.. or that the nordic or danmark, sweeden and norway work together... beacause of our size since we don't really have that much to say in a system like the EU....

I'm so sick of the EU forcing their laws on us and pressing us for money.. like in this filesharing thing.. we have to either pay the EU money each year or be apart of the No to Filesharing thing.. so now we will ahve to do both, pay'em money AND be a part of the laws... oh and that UGLY stupid EU flower.. i liked our enviromental swan... it's better.. (for more reasons than one...)
Hypocrits.. make laws and don't even follow them...
:soapbox: :fighting1 :cussing:

BTW: i hate the people who run the EU not the people in the countrys 😉 just thought i'd mention that LOL

I know, it's no good even if you have been able to stay outside, like Norway.. As long as there is a union, there's no way not to be affected by it, as a country..

I'd ilke that too.. Norway, Sweden, Denmark.. Hate that that doesn't seem to work at all..

I'm not all against EU though, I mean I like the idea, I just don't think this is working as it is now.. And I think it's very hard to change this into something good..
Don't know, I'm just tired of EU, can't they see it isn't working..?

the thing about the eu that makes it bad is that it seems t be so rounded on money... and ofcourse money is a big part.. ALOt of countries involved...

yeah, it's hard for Norway not to be affected, when we are apart of Schengen and Eà˜S.. i don't remember the english word for Eà˜S...

theres been so much stuff i'm being aware of lately, makes me wanna be activly apart of ungdom mot Eu again 😉

Is Eà˜S the same as EEA (European Economic Area)? Which is what EFTA evolved into (European Free Trade Association btw)
