Heya,

I know it's still a long time until the next Eurovision Song Contest, but in Germany it's already in issue. The German organising television networks ARD and NDR have decided to rearrange the selection procedure for the German entry. Unlike the last few years it will be completely up to a jury. There will be no televoting procedure. The idea behind it is, to lure the more succesful German artists into the show, as they will not have to fear being not voted to the finals by the German people. Therefore there might be a small chance of getting Rammstein or other big German acts in Moscow next year.

At the same time the voting procedure for the finals has been altered too. A jury of every country dishes out 50% of the votes, next to a televote.

What do you guys think of the entire contest. I personally like it and I believe it's something to look forward to every year, even though the so called "Ost-Mafia" dishes out votes among each others. However, I think it has to do more with music thasn most people believe. An expert said once, that the Eastern European songs are basically all written in the style for the Easterners. Some sort of special Bar, which the Westerners aren't used to listen to. If one though would play in this Bar, even songs from the west would get points. Well maybe that's bullocks, but I like the show and find it a pitty that people are so resentful about it. Italy for instance already has left it long ago.

I personally can't stand it, the contest has been turned into block voting hence Terry Wogan isn't doing the British commentary anymore.I think most Britain couldn't care less about the competition and just tune in to see what awful act we've put through another year.

In Ireland it used to be an instuition but since countries are voting politically instead of for the best act it's popularity has fallen drastically and really it is seen as a joke in Ireland now. Hence why we entered a turkey (literally) into the comp last year.

im glad i was out of the country this years eurovision cause just the thought of dustin the turkey was to much its like a joke waiting to happen to us irish, overall though it use to be fun watching it sometimes as a kid nowdays its just sillyness

He. Thought is was a bit early since one of the first threads I started after my arrival was about the 2008 edition. The time sure flies even if it hasn´t been a year just yet.

My personal opinion is that it can be fun to watch but it´s not like I take it seriously and except from last year (or this year to be moer exact) I haven´t watched it for a long time. Maybe bits and pieces but not like I would sit down to watch it. The whole thing is a very big thing in Sweden and we have a "group stage" where the two top songs goes directly to the final while third and fourth place go to a sort of semifinal and the two (?) best songs goes to the final. Even if a lot of people watch the whole thing it´s mostly kids and gays that openly admit to liking it.

They're going back to juries? Long overdue move IMO. It's still going to be silly, but perhaps this will bring a modicum of fairness and talent back. 😉

lol, ive been watching. Basically falling off my chair with laughter. All this thing does in my mind is make me prejudice against every other country in europe. UK was just on...no fancy gimicks...just a chick singing with a piano and a few violins. You watch...we'll get either last place or close to last place while dancing vikings and mermaids will win. It really is a terrible show for getting rid of misconceptions we have of other countries.

Prejudice and misconceptions. Nice.
My Mom was watching it downstairs, I only watched the part where they went through all the clips in the end when you could call. I don't feel like I missed anything.
And Germany...I think we just have to face up to the fact that we suck at this, brining in half naked women will not save us.

we're doing surprisingly well, although i can't believe how badly Finland is doing. Finland always has awesome music =/

BillyIdolWannaB agrees: Prejudice and misconceptions. Nice.

Yes. Anything else to add?

I actually watched most of it, wasn't as awful as past years. We did quite well considering all things.

The UK got 5th! What a comeback! I'm amazed...and kinda proud. Sure, I know its only eurovision, but considering were against a bunch of countries who vote for their neighbours year in year out, 5th is essentially 1st in my book. Well done Britain!

Edit--- Holy shit! 1000 posts! Mini celebration.
