Eurovision: The deception of political infamy?

European viewers, now i'm sure you all know what i'm talking about. Whether your musically attuned or"¦ well not, the Eurovision Song Contest has got to be one of the kindest senses of irony imaginable. If, like me you spent the night propping your seats for the climatic drawing-board conclusion with it's usual penalty point parade... then you'll no doubt realise a sense of unfair conformity amongst fellow neighbouring countries. "It's the same each year," exclaimed Terry Wogan *UK Commentator* using his same usual, one-lined clichéd guise.

So anyway after mocking and laughing at the entirety that made up the most part of the 24 crass, two-step idealised bunch of gimmick driven (last year's racial statement, this year it's the gay and bi communities turn) morons that ensued *not being prejudice, i'm totally up for it all, it's just when it's THAT much in your face it trashes the ideal) i thought, hang on a moment... you know there isn't really anything politically unjust about this"¦ Mr.Wogan, DIE!

Pardon the brashness, I mean people just happen to live in closed cultures and it's actually not all that surprising that people will go out and vote for it's neighbour. Thinking in-line with England and France of late, I bet if it really was all proposed hoaxes, then surely these minorities would be against one another like Pakistan and India right now. Neighbouring countries vote for one another not because of any ill-fated ideals, aspirations against more... lack of a better word, civil countries... it's probably because they're cultures are far more inter-raced and accessible. I'm not saying it's ALL jovial-spirited , but foremost i really do believe it's just down to people voting for they're own culture and the stuff they were brought up on. In fact I believe the UK are more entwined to political infamy and media charades as much as anyone else.

Know I think Terry Wogan has been brainwashed; once someone i found very satirical at one time for his part... now just a saddened, BBC blue-blood lackey the British government enlists to make other countries stay under the European spectacle. Bunch of self-crazed, mass media infidels...

Anyway enough rambling, so what are your thoughts on the contest this year? Away from the shadows, did you like the music... if not, why not? Favourite track, least favourite track... i should've really generalised the post header, i was only looking for a summation of the Eurovision this year. 🙄

Persoanlly I thought it was all of the same nature, well"¦ crap. I did however find that performance before the results were finalised a tad nifty. Estonia, you RULE! 😉
 
Estonia was great, you're right. What did you think of belgium???
i was really disappointed about the giving points, wasn't really fair, but well what did you expect????
I really liked england, russia, estonia,sweden,denmark, latvia ( nice act ),..
Greece was horrible, romania too... but they got points right....
Many of the songs just were all the same,...
 
I didn't like many of the songs, I was watching it more to laugh at them. In the end my friends and I voted for Slovenia, we loved them. 😀 I think Latvia only won cos she started stripping. The points are always so predictable, and what was with the fairytale things in between songs?! I still love eurovision though, it's one of the stupidest + funniest things on.
 
i voted for estonia.they was robbed!oz i think you're taking terry a bit too seriously.he was obviously drunk and did make for entertaining irreverant telly.i think the germans were the worst.the punchlines from the fairytales were the best.so bizarre
 
Lol nice to see our resident political activist back on the scene 😉 We missed you Oz 😛 On to the Eurovision Song Contest....well I didn't watch it, because for as long as I could remember I've thought of it as absolute drivel. I know it's an exercise in public relations for the different countries, but let's face it, the cultures are so totally different within the different countries, that nobody is really going to like that one song.... Whislt you might like one song above another, we're all still individuals who have individual preferences, within a culture that is very different from another European country. Oh dear goodness I'm beginning to sound like Oz again.......

I totally agree, although I'm German. It was so painful! God....

Before the contest the media was like "Oh yes, you will win, Corinna! Your song is great, Germany 12 Points...yada yada yada" 😱

But all the German people thought "Oh no..please we hate that song we hate Corinna May."

I don't wanna sound like "uh", but I think they counted on her blindness too much, imho.

Well, no not really. My comments on the guy were sort of a back-pass at the man's wit, i really didn't think anyone would comment that part of the post... so i thought i'd compromise with a bash at him, heh. You know sorta like "see how you like it." No one ever seems to notice Mr.Wogan's input and in all honesty it was actually just a tribute at what *he* does best for the show. Now if only he was the government infidel i proclaim, lol! 🙄

I fully agree though, he does it to push ratings (most of my post was me just rambling incoherently anyway), but it's just a whole lot better looking at it from my stand point IMO/obviously. Must apologies though, definitely should've added a few tags & smilies in hindsight... you know being pessimistic and good-hearted is SUCH a hard thing to juxtapose these days with you lot. *Applauds* Mr.Gunn. 🙂

yeh hon I've known you for far too long *not* to be running at this point 😉 Be warned; I have my final poliics exam coming up and it's the synoptic unit, so I might just start throwing concepts at you, see what you think 😀
 
Now there was I, thinking me and the hubby were the only sad people to have been sitting there watching the Eurovision. 'lol' It's become a sort of tradition now , we have to watch just to see how bad the entries are. 😀 It never fails to make me shake my head how those same countires all vote for each other, and yeah ok you could put it down to culture and all that, but you have to wonder how the voting qould go if it was all purely down to televoting and not in some cases left to a panel of judges??

Greece's entry was just laughable - it was truly awful along with Russia's as well.

I don't think that Latvia was good enough to win - I mean the entry from France, didn't understand a word of it but she had a really good voice, besides which I liked her dress 'lol'

Is it just me or are more and more entries singing in English, or at least part of it in English - I can remember watching the Eurovision and not being able to understand any of the songs apart from England and Ireland at one time? Where was Ireleand this year - did they do really badly last year and not make in this time? I honestly can't remember.

Ah well, it will soon come round again for us to put ourselves through all those awful songs, somewhat scary outfits and predictable voting! 'lol' 😀😀
 
Every year I watch it, every year I get pissed watching it, and every year I start raving about the whole politicalness of it. This year was no different.

In all honesty I liked two of the songs, one was ours and the other was Estonia's. The rest were so awful. Before they even give out the points you know which country will give it to which, its such a fixed show.

The cheesy filler bits, was it fairytales? was annoying as hell. The presenters annoyed me, infact the entire show did lol.

I don't actually see the point of it, it definitely isn't about the music. I hate all the bias, why they can't vote according to the actual songs I'll never know. Latvia's was crap and they won, the show just gets sadder each year and it actually makes me glad we aren't part of the euro.
 
I thought it was rather funny, I could predict what country would get points..it's all about geography... and returning points at eachother..; so plitically huh?!)

estonia was great, but I thought latvia was good too...
yeah, germany wasn't that great, nor was greece..; ( where did they get their costumes??? 😀😀)
 
A group of friends were at mine for a Red Dwarf weekend, which trned into a Eurovision party. It was hilarious! There was the 'bad boy' band in black leather, the borg, the ugly boy band with bad 70's guy, kebab shop owner, and two others dressed in other genres. There was a lot of copy cat singers, but it was still fun to watch.

I loved Terry's quote "If you want to get ahead get a hat. And if you have a good body, do a striptease too"
