Here I was merrily browsing along and talking to some people on msn and listening to Bowie and all of a sudden BOOM SMACK between the eyes I think I might have had a religous experience or possibly an epiphany.

In between talking to my friend and Life on Mars something hit me and there for a moment I felt so much bigger than me, than life, than anything. There for a brief fleeting moment I knew something. Now obviously I can't remember what I knew, but I knew something more than just this. Or perhpas I didn't know anything at all, my mind was a blank and for a moment I left my body and was everything that is around me.

No I'm not high, but if you've had the same experience during, please do share. I just wanna know if anyone else have experienced anything like this and what and how it happened.

I understand what you mean.
I know people are gonna be like....'Yeah, I was in the Frozen section of Sainsbury's and something hit me'.....well, something probably did, a frozen chicken from the top shelf waggled loose, but not me.
I've had the genuine Epiphany, true blue 100%, that brief glimpse where everything and nothing in the universe makes sense. The kind where you need to sit, just to comprehend whats just happened. Like you say, you never remember what was in that second, but you know it was so profound that it will change the course of your existence from here on.

Life, people, live it. Don't sit about worrying about things that are out of your control, because if you could do anything about them, then they wouldn't be out of your control.

For a while now i have been quite down. You may have noticed, you may not have, but i have been. I saw a future where i had everything i wanted, and wondered if that was it....if i get what i want then is there any point to me after that......
Well tonight, i was watching TV, nothing special, some Silly(but amusing) Comedy about IT staff and it made me laugh.
I laughed hard.
I don't understand why, the joke wasn't that funny, but there i was sat watching this TV show, laughing so hard a bit of wee came out......and thats when it happened.
Laughter. I haven't laughed like that in months, heck i haven't laughed like that in over a year. When it subsided, i realised i'd just had a moment, an epiphany if you will, where things focused, the planets aligned or something, i had a spiritual link to the world, the people i love, the things i love and the places i love....now i don't know what happened, but now, i know. I know part of the secret, i know i have that answer in me, and i may find the key to unlocking it all tomorrow, i may take the rest of my life, but i know its there. There is an answer people, the answer to Why.........i don't know it yet, but i know i will, and so will you all.
Faith, just a little bit of faith. You dont need to be religious, you don't need to be spiritual, heck you dont even need to be good....the answers there my friends.........
And now, Alister is Back...🙂

Let me get this straight. Both your "epiphany's" made you realise something, you just don't know what? HOW ****ING USEFUL. Remind me to give you two a call when I need some help figuring life out. You might not be able to give me the answers, but I KNOW you'll know them, somewhere.....

I just had an epiphany about ten minutes ago....It was about stuff. Stuff is important, and should not be ignored. Stuff is what makes us wake up in a good mood. Stuff is what sends you to sleep with the warm fuzzies. Stuff is choc full of stuffy goodness. Stuff is awesome!

Life itself is the most dangerous thing. Learned that today. Not sure if it qualifies as what your thinking of as an epiphany.

And damn...remind me to never make you angry, psychotic jackass...quite the morale booster you are...maybe your week was as bad as mine...

Stuff is awesome!

Oh my, I think someone just OD on the sarcasm.

And the usefulness of it was never in question. A moment like that ain't about what happens next it's about the feeling of the moment. I'm guessing you've never been drunk or high either, because that is after all an artifical way of trying to create the same type of ultimate "know" feeling, there is nothing but what you are right then and there, and there really ain't anything to be had from it afterwards. It's all about the emotion my dear.

I dont know if you would call mine an epiphany or not, but I know how you feel. A couple of months after my mom passed away, broken hearted and staring out the window.. an overwhelming sense of calm and peace came over me. For one brief moment everything was new, I understood life and the balance of our world. Was it just my mind and heart accepting my moms passing? Perhaps. Was it a higher power giving me a glimpse into my own soul or my corner of the universe? Maybe. Could I re-create it again? Never. The warmth, peace, calmness and feelings that overcame me at that time I cant begin to describe. All I do know is that whatever it was, it was inspiring.

Yep I've had the feeling too.... not sure it's the same but like a bunch of time I was doing random things and it's like for a second everything is just sooo different and then I was left thinking "what was that" and I couldnt really understand but I knew that for a second I kinda was "aware" of so much more things in this world... and I still don't believe in God but like Alister said I don't think we need to be religious... it's more like... just awareness of the world we live in.. it's such a powerful feeling!

Yeah, i know what you mean. Its kind of hard to discribe. It happened to me before when I lost my focus in life and felt kind of lost...
I had this feeling for a moment and everything made sense, everything was so clear....
I just knew what i want from and what my purpose is... why i life in this world and why this world exist. Everything just seemed so clear in this one moment. Its just like u have the answers to all the why-questions...

Glad that ure back, Alister!!!!!!

Lately all of my moments of peaceful clarity have revolved around finally understanding some elusive statistical concept that previously seemed non-sensical, but this weekend, I don't know if it would count as an epiphany, but I think I fully grasped that regardless of where life takes me, and who I am blessed to travel take the journey with, that I have to go, to help, to serve. I spent the weekend with a group of individuals that are changing the way people think about a variety of things, and thereby changing the world. Its good to be fired up again and to know I can make adifference. Done rambling.

My epiphany came in the form of the knowledge that someone being an "adult" didn't mean they weren't full of sh*t. I realized that most of the adults in my life were messed up beyond belief, didn't play fair, made selfish and ill-advised decisions, and had no problem lying to their kids and/or others in the name of saving face.

But I'm sooooo over that now... 😉

Awesome.

I've done more drugs and been drunk more times than I care to remember.. Or for that matter, do remember. I would never relate any drug to having an "epiphany". I've never had a "know" feeling when taking drugs. Generally, I've just thought, "whoa!" 😛

I was under the impression an epiphany is when you make a realization about life, or about yourself, to the point that it has a physical manifestion on your being. If you don't know what that realization is, wouldn't that completely defeat the point of having an "epiphany"?

It depends doesnt it.
I mean Epiphany is that moment of clarity that affects your entire existence, itsnot whats in that moment, its what happens next and what you choose to do with that feeling you felt.
With me, it was clearly realising that the answers that i need(that we all need) in life, are there, but there isnt any point in worrying because i don't know them yet. I will know them if and when i find them........

i have them all the time, i have them when i finally get something.. or can piece something together, like the other day i was reading (for school) and i read a court descition from 1896 and i suddanly understood something about another court desition i've read from 1954(brown vs the board of education, its a very pivital desicion when it comes to civil rights) and i got that feeling.. that wow BIG huge feeling.

i got one this chrisatmas too, when i finally understood something about my mom, her personality and a problem she has... totaly changed me, i just look at her and the situation so much differnt now...

i get the feeling also when i satart to think about the univers and the thought that if there was nothing there wouldn't be a univers, but there can't never be nothing cause there ain't nothing else, this is what life, existence etc is.... nothing is imposible, or so i hope cause..... i can't go on, this tought is driving me crazy! (since i was a kid) i almost start to hyperventilate and i anxiety grabs me

but yeah, i know what you mean Jolly
