Ever watched a TV series and thought it too long?

why does it continues after 20 seasons

because it's still one of the highest rated scripted dramas on TV. The ratings "tanked" this season but there would be hundreds of shows that would long for the ratings Grey's still pulls in. That's why Netflix paid so much to get new Shondaland shows.

Well, I think the WB series are self evident. Charmed had three seasons of low cut plot stretched into nine, Supernatural could take an entire generation from high school to middle age, Smallville literally started pillaging Superman after exhausting Superboy. I mean, Joss clearly messed up with Angel.

I never watched it, but given how much of Carrie Bradshaw's life is now covered by "Sex and the City," has that ran too long?

The question is, have you ever abandoned a show after being so frustrated with it?

I couldn't. Even though I'd be annoyed, I stuck with some series that were ridiculous because you're emotionally invested in some of the characters.

I've done so. I stopped watching Supernatural in season 12 because I realized I wasn't actually watching anymore. When I rewatch I stop at end of season 5.

Babylon 5 is an interesting case. I don't know how good season5 would have been if they'd been able to stick to the original plan, but as is I usually end my rewatch with season 4.

Doctor Who - that show's longevity has gone way beyond ridiculous - haven't watched it since 2012 and i cannot believe it is still going.

Oh, and 'Big Bang Theory'.

I feel like it's a really strange choice to continue any show after the main actor/cast has stepped down from their roles. Like, we just spent 5+ seasons with this character as our main focus and now you want us to get used to some random Joe that you threw in to take their place? When did this show become an anthology? When your main actor is getting tired of being there and/or just needs to leave (because people change, circumstances change, and not everyone wants to play the same character for a decade), maybe it's time to consider ending things. If the people working on the show are starting to feel the burnout, the audience is probably getting there, too.

The First run of Doctor Who was 26 years. It's really intended as a kid's show that occasionally appeals to adults, so it rotates through the cast and audience. Allegedly.

2012 was definitely the last time the show was worth watching. I'm just over it.

Doctor Who's advantage is that it has a soft reboot mechanism built in. So, there's always the possibility everything can change a few years down the line. Whether or not it is a change for the better varies.

I've stopped watching Grey's multiple times. When Krista Vernoff took over, I went through a roller coaster of watching the first 2 eps of a season and abandoning the rest. Actually, I kind of like the new crew of interns right now, so I'm back on. But I will definitely stop watching.

I abandoned Chicago PD after season 4, when Sophia Bush left. And it wasn't even out of solidarity. It was because I just didn't like it without Erin Lindsay. She brought heart to the show that wasn't there in season 5. haven't seen it since.

I've picked up and abandoned NCIS multiple times, as well. I haven't seen an episodes since Michael Weatherly left, though that's more because I am that far behind. I do stay up to date with storylines, though.

Charmed should have been ALL the seasons shorter. The writing on the show never even rose to the level of mediocrity.

Beg to differ. While there are issues, the arc between seasons 3-5.5 were good. It wasn't ever "Emmy" winning level, it was still interesting, and the acting for the most part was on point. I would say the weakest actress was Rose. Holly had an amazing emotional range. And compared to 90% of the CW writing and acting, it is LEVELS better. Now, I will agree that it could have ended at the point where Cole was vanquished because there really wasn't any good storyline after that, and the actresses clearly phoned it in the final 3 years. Don't get me started on season 8.

Supernatural went on for how long?

Supernatural never got back to the same caliber after Kripke left in season 5. I think it really could have/should have ended there. I own all 15 seasons, but I still haven't pushed through the last 3.

I've had a weird run with Grey's. The short version; since it got moved to a streaming platform I don't have, I haven't kept up. That was about 4 or so seasons ago?

It's not a huge loss to me though. The series got a bit too soap-opera for my liking.
Perhaps one day I'll play catch-up.

Wasn't the original run intended for 5 seasons? I enjoyed the series, and somewhere along the way I lost track of it after that 5th season. I don't really remember why. I think it was shifted to a late timeslot or something..

Stake fodder I'm a completist. I worry the show will get good again if I leave off!

And of course when you get to the end and the series finale airs, you yell at the television: "That's it!?" or, "What a crap ending!"

Or...maybe that's just me...

Seriously though, The Walking Dead. 5-6 seasons would have been enough. Also ER, it became utter trash after Anthony Edwards left.

I nearly abandoned the show after Shannen left, because my God, I loved Prue. Still, I gave Rose a chance and she was somewhat entertaining...at first. Then I began to notice that she had absolutely no range as an actress. Like Jared Padalecki in Supernatural, Rose basically had three facial expressions. Period. Acting-wise, Holly did the heavy lifting, just like Jensen Ackles carried Supernatural.

On a positive note, watching Cole and Piper trying to vanquish each other was super entertaining. Always makes me laugh. Holly and Julian had great chemistry. 💕 But I'd also like to point out that both Supernatural and Charmed had the WORST finales I've ever seen. There was no excuse for such drivel. Angel had a GREAT finale, and that was written pretty quickly. Charmed and Supernatural's writers had plenty of time, yet they still managed to screw everything up. And I'm still flabbergasted that Patty had pretty much zero reaction to Prue's death. And shall we discuss how cheesy Sam Winchester's death scene was? Oh, cringe. 🙄

Charmed, Supernatural, and Buffy ALL should've ended at S5. On the other hand, Angel deserved at least one more season. I would've loved seeing Illyria and Fred "take turns" manifesting. Amy was such a BRILLIANT actress.

Exactly. I actually loved Paige in seasons 4 and 5. But then, it's like Rose was over the BTS drama and was just collecting that check. You could tell she didn't really care to be there about midway through season 5. Holly definitely carried that show until it withered out. I hate the storylines in the final 3 seasons. And while I love Drew Fuller as a person, he was abysmal in season 6 and really dragged what could have been an interesting season way down.

Cole and Piper's feud in season 5 was everything. Episode 100 should have been the end, in retrospect.

Amy is the complete opposite of Rose. She has SO MANY ranges.

Yes, Supernatural was intended to end with Season 5. But at the time it was far and away the CW's most popular show. And because of the way the rights were Kripke could stay involved or drop out, but further seasons were till coming.

Friends definitely went on for too long. Understandable perhaps, but they were so out of ideas by like season 7-8.

I thought Sex and the City was pretty done after the first movie, but I haven’t bothered watching anything after that, so can’t speak to the quality of whatever came next

Rose is good when she gets emotional material (like re-visiting the death of her parents). After season 4 she didn’t get much to do though.

Supernatural was never the same after S5. But it didn’t go from good to terrible - it went from consistently good to very inconsistent. So there was always a good run of eps post s5 that made me think it was back to its best before a run of dull, repetitive eps that made me wonder why I was still watching it 😉
