Ever watched a TV series and thought it too long?

Supernatural ending did give us the "Walker, Texas Ranger" reboot. Which may have been the most unnecessary thing ever made.
 
I think to a lot of people the 22, 40 minute episode format of shows is now too long.

The only new show I watch with that format is Riverdale.

But the new style seems to be 8-9 hour long episodes or shorter per season. And you have to wait at least 1 year, sometimes 3 years or something for each season which I find really annoying and I don't understand why it takes that long.

I stopped watching shows I might otherwise watch because of this. The more popular, the more likely to be abandoned. I GUESS because cast & crew of popular shows want more money. Pirates are a small thing compared to executives.
I think going down the spinoff route would often be better than having the show go on too long. As it is, spinoffs can happen when the original show has lost its popularity, so the spinoff isn't a success. Less seasons of the original show (sorry actors) and moving to a spinoff instead could help keep the franchise popular long term.

They nearly immediately made a failure of a spin off based on the parents of the boys. So it must have been viewed enough to justify that. I wish they had gone with Wayward Sisters instead. I would have stuck with it to any end, but wasnt going to go out of my way to find a alternative reality backstory.

It ended with season 15 in Spring of 2020, but we knew when the season started it was going to be the last one. Jared and Jenson had indicated near the end of 14 that they were about ready to wind it down.

And no, it was in no way as good by the end as it was when season 5 ended.
 
Some series have episodes that are like 50 minutes long but if I like the series, I will watch every second.

Speaking of Game of Thrones, here's a somewhat amusing story. You remember Jaquen H'gar? The faceless man who tutored Arya? Well, I noticed he looked quite a bit like the Winter Soldier...and since I was bored, I thought, "I could use him as my avatar, and probably no one would even notice!" So I did.😈 But one fine morning, i got a message from the boss, asking me to remove the avatar. Busted! Well, it was fun while it lasted. 😄
 
At last the chit chat about how crap Paige was has gone.
But if push went to shove imagine if Paige's character had been portrayed by Kaley Cuocco from season 4.
That way in season 8 Paige could have played opposite (Kaley's) evil sister. And the competition would have been on, which one of them was the worst?

Like, we just spent 5+ seasons with this character as our main focus and now you want us to get used to some random Joe that you threw in to take their place? When did this show become an anthology? When your main actor is getting tired of being there and/or just needs to leave (because people change, circumstances change, and not everyone wants to play the same character for a decade), maybe it's time to consider ending things. If the people working on the show are starting to feel the burnout, the audience is probably getting there, too.

I honestly gave up halfway through farm season slog. Came back for governor. Left when that season finally ended. I’ve seen so many outlets report spinoffs and plans and I just could not possibly care less about any except maybe the Maggie & Negan in NYC one. But even then it’s just due to location, not interest in character.

That first season was so strong, it’s so sad that this is where it has ended up. Just complete swamp muck at this point.

Family Guy is another one that’s gone way too long. From what I’ve seen of newer episodes, everyone acts like a jerk, there’s cutaway gags every 5 seconds, and the amount of violence is way out of control. Those first few seasons were perfect. Nowadays it has stuff like Lois throwing Brian into a woodchipper for giggles.

Almost every CW show can also be thrown into the “way too long” category. Riverdale, Supernatural, Arrow, Flash, etc. There are some good ones (or were) but a lot of that network’s output just became straight garbage over time.

I absolutely agree. After Swan Song, I didn't enjoy the show as much. I tried, but meh. I felt that Cas worked better in smaller doses, and when they brought back Mary Winchester I wanted to stick my head in the oven. 😄

Agree 100%.

Also agree with everyone saying Charmed, it probably should have ended at Season 4 or 5.

Someone mentioned Smallville and I absolutely agree. Should have ended around Season 5 or 6 or at the very least when Lex left at the end of Season 7.

Scrubs never should have had that final "season" tacked on, especially since the Season 8 finale is so good and works so well as a final episode.

I also like to pretend that Season 8 of That 70s Show doesn't exist.
