I really should get a blog for this crap, but I have to get this out of my system, and I know that quite a few members here participate on IMDB boards too.
I love IMDB. It's how I ended up here, and thanks again whoever was responsible for that. I've had some fascinating discussions on various subjects there. I've encountered some cool people, and I frequently emerge from the boards with fresh perspectives on old favourites.
But, with the possible exception of the Aintitcool Talkback (Sample post "Charlies Angels 2 made me uncomfortable because I'm British and the badguys were Irish") there is no brighter beacon to wierdos, perverts, and trolls everywhere, than the IMDB forums. In fact it's known for it. "Weird as an IMDB post" is a simile everybody understands. The freaks take over nearly every single actor, movie and tv show's board, and the Buffy related boards in particular get more than their fair share.
I like to think I'm quite patient. I have a sense of humour. I enjoy innuendoish fun as much as the next drunken teenager. And ordinarily, I'm a strong supporter of the Laissez Faire attitude to forums. But last week, after yet another troll attack, I snapped. I went on a rampage, reporting every single offensive post I could find. And today, I checked, and they're all gone. IMDB Admin quietly and effectively do the job, but abuse must be reported before they'll step in. So, I'm asking here, rather than there, because that'd get the wierdos themselves involved - if you see an offensive post, take that extra 10 seconds to report it. After that, feel free to ignore them, but do this first. It's quick, painless, and leaves you with the fuzzy glow of civic duty. I don't mean posts like "She's so Hawt!" or clearly humourous or ironic remarks. I mean damn right offensive crap. I mean racist, sexist, sexually explicit, slanderous or abusive threads and posts. The kind of stuff that's on every single board there. It's there because we tolerate it.

Sorry to use this board to vent about another one, but I do feel better now... And now that I've gotten that out of my system, feel free to delete this or let it sink in the knowledge that I'm a whole lot happier.
