Exercise Support

Going to start walking for an hour a day again tomorrow. Been hit or miss since mum fell and i could blame sloth on stress and travel. Did not agree with my health or feeling of wellbeing and i stopped losing weight. Just wanted to tell on myself.

Thank god for library audiobooks on the phone and audio fanfic on readera also on the phone! (I chose a British accent for my 'robot' voice)

I got myself a really cheap pedometer. Nothing that links to a mobile phone in any way, because I still need that new phone first...

I am curious to see what sort of steps I get even on days when I am not out and about anywhere.

Went for a walk today, bought myself a kinder flavoured milkshake from the vending machine on my way. It did kinda defeat the point of the walk, but I'm building up to the exercise for weight loss part!

Sounds like my life...

I'm trying to get my arse back on the treadmill again after a massive gap in useage.

My plan is to get walking a routine first, then I can work on everything else.

Walking is the best way to start imo which is why I'm doing it. There are quite a few walking challenges out there these days. Mine is just to start making an effort as much as possible to make it a habit.

Oh, I have walking challenges, but the stupid fitbit is refusing to sync!

Try the old fashioned tally on paper for every lap
Hopefully I've sorted out the fitbit, so I've started a new challenge.

Conqueror's Norwegian Fjords 1202km to walk in 9 months. I think it's doable, roughly 30km a week, so not even 5km a day

Put my neck out playing golf. 7 day migraine ongoing. No golf tomorrow.

Heck, I have thrown my back out in bed!

It looks like my baseline is about 4,000 steps a day. There are days when I walk more, but those mostly seem to be journeys that involve getting food. So, rather debatable as to whether that is actually an improvement.

If you swing your arms really hard on the way home I'm sure you'll be able to work the calories off! 😁

Especially if you have wrist weights on!
There's a walking festival in one of the nearby towns next week so I might go on one of their walks.

Well I didn't go to that however I have mostly been sticking to the 5km a day goal.

Next week will be harder though, as I can usually catch up with it if my work days are lower, but I'm working more next week.

Got a recumbent exercise bike so today (rainy and chilly) i have no excuse. About to get on it now. 1 hour bike or walk or swim - swim is the most effort for an hour but i love how i feel and in summer it is outdoors in sun which agrees with me.

Been a struggle fetting restarted. Exercising while unfit is a chore. Once one is fit it actually feels good.

I have been walking more. And by "more" I mean "actually walking for exercise."

Unfortunately, I find walking boring. I wish I had somewhere to put a decent treadmill; then, at least, I would be able to read a book or watch something at the same time!

I know people listen to stuff on their phones. But, even if I finally got a new phone that could cope with that - the current one can't - I have yet to encounter earbuds/headphones/whatever that don't rapidly give me a headache and my situational awareness whilst walking is already poor enough that I don't want to deliberately make it worse.

I agree, walking is boring and I don't listen to anything either. That's why I have to do challenges, but mine is an app!

Is there a park run near you that you could attend? Not running but just walking it.

Not that I know of, but the nearest park is far enough away that I would have to drive to it because the walk there and back is 5 miles!

Its not necessarily at a park
I dont mind walking, but if I go too far I get in my own head too much. Whoever says exercise clears their heads has an opposite head to me. Once I get tired I go bad in the brain. Horse riding cleared my head cos if you're not paying attention, you end up on the floor! Same with rowing and gymnastics. But I cant do any of those things now.

So with this new diagnosis, I know why my weight is so whacky now. Exercise will not and does not help. But I rekon keeping muscle will. Its so annoying that the shire wont let me join the gym because I am not buying a billion different weights.

I want to commit to golf for the season, but the social side of that is the most difficult part. I dont want to play competitively but they are really pressuring me to do so - in the spirit of the club. I'd really prefer to go play 6 holes a week on my own!

@nightshade It looks like mine is at a park, and it is at the park that is even further away! 11 miles there and back!
