Exercise Support

You could always start a dog-walking business plus get exercise pulling the leash when you have a recalcitrant dog. A big dog would build up arm strength while you walk.

I often wonder why so many dog walkers are fat... I think maybe they wander slowly and grab bites on the hoof? no idea.

Around here it seems everyone has dog walking as a second job. I think those that walk 3+ dogs at a time are not safe doing it. They don't have the ability to keep 3 dogs under control, especially ones that they don't know well, if something sets them off. Also if I was paying someone to walk my dog I'd expect it to be 1 to 1 so I know they are paying attention to my dog. Rant over!

I'm considering getting out the dread machine, which for the last few years has just been used to dry washing. It's a climber, so a bit like a 2D stairmaster!

I have seen this too and if you remember from the movie "Moonstruck", there was one guy walking five dogs. There is nothing preventing you from starting a dog walking service with the selling feature that you will only walk one dog at a time. Where I live, your dog is your identity. I am known to most people as Toby's father. People without a dog have no identity, so people walk their own dogs around here.

I got on the air track today and am so glad I did! I'm not supposed to do too much stretching as I am too flexible already, so just laps and then the legs in the air lymphatic drainage exercises. Made me feel tonnes better. I have muscle spasms all up my neck and scalp now, but I do feel heaps better, even just having that mat to lie flat on my back without pressure points. My feet feel great too.

The dogs did not help. Stole my shoes, dug at my hair and rolled on my face. They think the air track is a trampoline fun park just for them to bounce on. They got walkies after. I swear I felt more jiggly and free.

Not doing well this week, not even getting walks before work in. I've also managed to hurt my shoulder, who knows how!

In bed? I have hurt my back more than once in bed.

Feeling more jiggly does not seem like the aim of exercise, but to each their own. Maybe your dogs need longer walks so they will be too tired to interfere with your exercise.

went for a nice walk sunday. felt good afterward, so I still have a bit of fitness left (probably from doing a bit here and there) but... nothing Monday. nothing yesterday. it rained and Tuesday is a day I have a bunch of comittments, so i don't feel horrid about missing a Tuesday... provided I don't miss any other days. So I had other things to do but mostly, i was not good to myself and my body is telling me it's not happy. And I have that nice bike in the back room now. Must remember to use it. Even at night or during bad weather. It's very comfortable. much more so than i expected. and I can listen to my audiobooks... and if i ever get off my bum, I can set up a tv back there so i can watch netflix and lose track of my hour... it's not a lot of time to invest in a healthy rest of my life. Bet I spend more time on the BuffyBoards some days. Before my mum's fall I walked an hour a day M-F and 2 or 3 hours on Sat and Sunday (long hikes in our beautiful park) and my body felt 20 years younger... which matters a lot when you're 60+

I will ride my bike today. In fact, I will ride it before noon.

Walking does seem to help. Except I hate walking in the rain.
My new ankle weights just arrived; I had to replace the others as they were shedding metal bits everywhere.

The new ones are adjustable, and removing one of the weights makes them heavier than my previous ones; removing two makes them slightly lighter. So, not a huge amount of adjustment possible, but they start off heavier and can go more so.

I also thought I might start walking around the block only to find I am already walking more than that, which was a surprise.

ankle weights are really bad for my back injuries, my fat feet will have to do!
ankle weights
I rekon my fat feet are heavy enough 🤣 I must be pretty strong to carry around this body!

I have done everyday on the airtrack which is nice to feel untwisted. I havent added weights back in yet. My rowing is still the same, 2kms a day and I feel like with everything else, its my limit. I dont seem to be getting fitter or stronger with it. I enjoy it but it's depressing to think I used to row 16kms easy, on real water and now 2kms on a machine takes me out haha.

Dogs still take me on a 5 km walkies daily. The golf man rekons that a game of golf is like 9kms even with the buggies. The buggies make me feel like I have done a million squats and I prefer to walk because i dont hit bumps and jar my back when I walk! I hope its raining tomorrow. I really dont want to go play golf again yet. I want to go play with the ponies again instead.

Adding ankle and wrist weights to any exercise can increase how effective it is. It might work well for rowing.
I started a new summer training program:
  • Monday: Swimming in the pool (40–50 laps with different swimming styles)
  • Tuesday: Gym workout for 1 hour
  • Wednesday: Rest
  • Thursday: Gym workout for 1 hour
  • Friday: Swimming in the pool (40–50 laps with different swimming styles)
  • Saturday: Gym workout for 1 hour
  • Sunday: Rest
The goal is also to stay consistent with the workouts every week... coming home from work and then going to the pool or the gym.

Swam for an hour friday and yesterday. Going back on monday. Achy today. Took a short walk. Consistency will get me there.

Goal is to swim a mile in a hour. So far i am kust getting my sea legs back. Maybe by friday i will be closer.

I only enjoy outdoor swimming in the sea or lakes, pool swimming I find boring.

I've got one of those weighted hula hoop things with the ball. I bought it ages ago and tried it a few times before giving up from getting bruised. However I've been seeing a bunch of videos appearing with them, and people are wearing it tightly so I've readjusted it and it's still really difficult, but not as difficult!

I made some improvised wrist weights. I have a proper set, but they are too bulky to do anything with when they are on, other than such as exercise. So, using some plastic baggies, the metal filling from my old pair of worn out ankle weights and two sweatband wallets, I made a light pair for each wrist. They are only about 200g, but 200g worn a lot is better than more worn rarely. They are not an unqualified success, though, as the filling tends to move around to the underside of my wrist and pool there. If I could sew better, I could probably make a better set myself, but these will do for now.

Ooh Im glad this thread bumped up. I forgot about my rowing machine. I was distracted by golf and horses. But I really should get back on the rowing machine again.
