Exercise Support

Just started physio again for my hips/back... So back to it for me!

@hoponlilmama Treadmills are great, I like mine but for walking lol... I can't balance on the walking pads haha weird!!

They've actually got walking pads with handrails! Because like you, without one I don't think I'd do very well! Plus, they often have a stand if you want to put your phone/tablet in front of you.

And good luck with the physio sessions!

Sure! I just had a quick look for an example (click here). Some have a small incline, some are capable of jogging (not a full-paced run though!). They're compact as opposed to a regular treadmill, so you can fold down the handrail, can wheel it away under a couch/bed. Bluetooth enabled, no assembly.

So far on reviews of a few I've looked at appear to be pretty decent - especially for what you're paying (a few hundred, in comparison to a standard treadmill).

Exercise is on hold for the holiday! Not even the dogs are going to get walkies tomorrow.

My Fitbit properly died, it's been playing up for a while but it just would not work today. So no more fitbits for me, they never last anymore. Got a cheap Samsung watch instead, maybe a third of the price of the same type of fitbit.

I did consider just a plain old watch, but I do actually like having my step count and other bits on there

I want to take pilates!

Almost exactly a year ago I said I wanted to do either pilates or yoga to increase my flexibility. I got absolutely nowhere with either. There's a speciality gym within walking distance that I guess might improve my flexibility, but I suspect starting with more than I currently have would help.

Begin at your current level. These places have beginner levels for people with little flexibility. Once you get flexible, you will wonder why you didn't start earlier.

Having a gym close by is helpful
I was loving the pool, but its a long way to drive and a lot of money to go as often as I was. I'm also very sunburnt despite wearing suncream cos its in full sun outdoors. I have ordered a rashie but it wont be here until the 20th of Jan. So until then I will have to just have to live with it. I know the pool has swim clubs starting again this week, so Im not even sure I will be able to get space to do the exercises that I like to do. But if they put lanes out, that would be good for me, rather than dodging children on giant inflatables. I guess I will have to see how I go when its that crowded later in the week. I loved my last swim cos I had the whole pool to myself!

@Ethan Reigns Last year I even checked out the classes available at the gym - not the nearby one, I think that will be harder, but another - and yes, they had a lot of classes for beginners which were what I looked at. But beginner classes don't do a lot of good if you never actually go to one... 😀

I was in Tae Kwon Do for nine years and got up to my first dan black belt. The most noteworthy exercise that got me flexible was just a standing kick where you kick out straight leg. The results are interesting - as you get better, it takes longer to do a kick because you go higher. The nice thing about flexibility is it lasts longer than muscle tone. Once you are at a certain level, it lasts for decades, not weeks. I can still kick up to my head height.

But like you say, you actually have to show up and do the work.

My exercise at the moment is either walking or done at home. Some cardio, quite a lot of strength. Flexibility is what I am missing.
I want to get some new headphones, encourage me to go on longer walks while listening to audiobooks.

Wish there was free exercise classes here, but some so a free session so I guess I could try out a few of those

I listen to articles on the Atlantic app. Very interesting, highly recommend.
Well, I did say I wanted to do yoga and pilates. Let's see how long that lasts...
I have set my exercise goal to hike and do pilates three times a week. So far, I have done nothing, lol.

I got a Pilates kit from Walmart which comes with all the equipment and a packet which explains how to do the exercises.

I would do this with my dogs, but I don't enjoy walking around my neighborhood. There are several aggressive dogs, and unfortunately, the owners are not very responsible with them, and let them roam around the neighborhood. I will never understand this. I would never allow my dogs to do that...I can however drive a mile to a nice park with a pond with ducks and swans, though, which I really should do more often.

I picked up some yoga DVDs cheaply from the charity shop. They have beginner stuff, and so far I haven't even got them out of the packet. 😀

Ha, I posted that just before I started walking nearly every day, so I guess that article did achieve something! I don't do it in the morning, though, and only in daylight. There re no roaming dogs; they'd get picked up. I wanted to walk locally, because all you have to do is just step outside, but I can understand wanting to drive somewhere better to walk.

I really wanted to try the reformer pilates, the ones with the machines! But I am worried about how fast they will go etc. I only did one session of normal pilates years ago!
