I've posted this here and there and thought I'd also post it here, thought you guys might get a kick out of it, especially the anime fans 🙂 This is set directly after the events of Season Seven (I began it before S8 and ATF were released, so disregard them for this fic.)

Disclaimer: Devil May Cry belongs to Capcom, Buffy/Angel to King Whedon, and Naruto to Masashi Kishimoto. I am not gaining financially from this in anyway, just blowing my own creative trumpet. All original characters ARE mine however, and I am most proud of them 😀

Prologue

BAM! And another one went down. Rather than follow up on the fatal gunshot and impale his target as he usually would, his second gun came out and he simply bombarded the demonic target with enough bullets to turn him to a bloody pulp. Checking around, he saw that was the last foe, and holstered his weapons.

“All in a day’s work, I think that’s earned me a strawberry sundae and a pizza,” the man said to himself as he pulled his long red coat in front of him, concealing his handguns, and placed his sword back into the guitar case he usually carried it in, to avoid unwanted attention.

He was about to step out of the alley, when he caught the familiar feeling running down his spine, the kind that kept you alive doing the job he did. He quickly turned, guns drawn, to see two strangely patterned red eyes glowering at him, shining brightly through the darkly lit alley. The figure stepped forwards, and revealed himself to be a man wearing a scratched metal headband and a large black cape with cloud patterns on it covering his entire body.

“You are most skilled. You are the one looking for Ketsumitchi yes?” he asked.

At the mention of the name, the man in the red coat lowered his weapons.

“Maybe. If you’ve got information I suggest you talk, now. My patience looking for the bastard is wearing thin,” he said.

“Then let me cut to the chase. I give you a target, you get him, you get Ketsumitchi,” the caped man said.

“So who’s the target?” the red coated man asked.

The red eyed man threw a folder down in front of him, on the cover was a picture of a young boy with blond spiky hair and an energetic demeanour.

“This runt?” the red coated man said “, I don’t do humans, sorry.”

The caped man took this in for a minute, chuckled then replied “,Oh, but this boy isn’t human. Far from it in fact. Have you ever heard of the Kyuubi?”

Chapter One

Chloe stood on the hillside, in the pouring rain, watching as the giant fox demon advanced on her and the man that stood beside her. In all her time slaying vampires and demons, she had never seen anything like this. This thing exuded an aura of terrible menacing power. The man that stood beside her did not seem concerned however. Quite the opposite, he smiled, and drew a rather large sword. She stood back, as he began to glow with red energy himself, and transformed into what could only be described as a demonic knight. The knight then seemingly glided into the air, headed straight for the fox. There was a brief moment of deadly silence, then a flash of light as he collided with the fox demon’s head. Then there was a flash of blinding light, and Chloe couldn’t help but shield her eyes. When she looked up, the knight and the demon had disappeared and a titanic wall of fire had taken their place and was quickly sweeping towards her. She barely had time to scream, before the flames engulfed her, searing her to the bone…

The young Slayer leapt awake, her sheets sticky with cold sweat. That damn dream again.

Screw this, she thought, leaping up from her bed.

Making herself a coffee, she grabbed the phone and quickly dialled a number.

“Yeah, Andy? It’s that sodding dream again. I think we might have something serious on our hands. I’ll be there in fifteen,” she quietly said into the receiver.

Hanging up, she threw on a reasonable outfit of blue tight jeans and a white vest top, and took off to her Watcher’s house.

Andy Smith’s house, Wickford, England, fifteen minutes later

“You said something about burning?” Andy asked his Slayer, as he sat at his computer, wearing his usual outfit of black jeans, a black short sleeved button down cargo shirt that he hadn’t bothered to button down, white undershirt, and Converse shoes. His ankle length khaki trench coat and fedora hat were hung up on the coat stand near the front door.

He span around in the chair, half surfing the Net for information, half playing with some new revolver he had bought from some demon hunter named Nemo or, Nero or something.

“Yes, for the fifth time, there was much in the way of burning! It was a ****ing burn-a-thon! What does it mean?!” Chloe asked, annoyed at Andy’s seeming disinterest in her possibly prophetic dreams.

“Well, I’ve got nothing in any prophecies that we’re aware of, although, many of those were lost when the Council was attacked,” Andy told her.

It had been three years since the Council was attacked by the First and Buffy the Vampire Slayer had subsequently changed the rules of the game and made every Potential into a Slayer outright. Many of the higher ups disliked this fact, far too stuck in their traditions to see the benefits of an army of Slayers to even the odds the forces of good had been facing since…well, the dawn of time.

But Andy was far from your regular Watcher, at 20 he was only four years older than his Slayer, and the youngest to obtain the post in the Council’s history. A practicing Warlock and crack shot with a revolver, he more often than not accompanied the Slayer into battle himself, usually providing the ranged attack whilst his Slayer got up close and personal with the creatures of the night. He was however, fiercely proud of his Slayer, and despite his young years, he seen enough of the world to know that she had a rough time ahead of her. In some ways, he was like a protective older brother, and he certainly made sure his Slayer was always prepared.

“Wait a second…you said something about a fox demon?” Andy asked her.

“YES!” Chloe said, exasperated with her Watcher that she was contemplating giving him a quick smack to the head to wake him up.

“That seems familiar…let me check the Council’s archives,” Andy said.

Ever since Rupert Giles had taken command of the Council, it had seen several technological upgrades, although having met the man and seen his distaste for anything remotely hi tech, Andy pinned these enhancements on Giles’ second-in-command, the highly irritating Andrew. He had been a classmate of his namesake at the Watcher’s academy, and knew it was his doing.

One of said upgrades was access to the Council Headquarters library online (bar a few ‘sensitive’ materials, of course.) Andy tapped a few keys, clicked on a few links, and then hit a wall, as a large CLASSIFIED logo appeared on the screen.

“Of all the bloody books I need, and it turns out to be a classified one. I’m gonna need to ring Giles,” Andy said.

Chloe sighed, slumping down into her chair. Her tenure as a Slayer had only been for nine months now, and she was already annoyed by the late nights and lack of friends her ‘calling’ left her with. Her caffeine addiction had grown as a result, and her social life had certainly diminished.

Andy left the room and headed for the phone. A few moments later, he returned to the computer, and typed a password into the waiting window next to the classified sign. A page opened up entitled ‘Elementia: The True Forgotten Kingdom.’

“I’ll need a while to read this through, you best go home and get some rest. I’ll contact you when I’ve deduced what the hell it was you were dreaming about,” Andy said.

“Oh, fine, it’s bed bound for me, I’d best get back anyways, my parents will be waking up soon and will wonder where the hell I’ve gotten to in the middle of the night again,” Chloe yawned.

Chloe left Andy’s house and walked out into the night air, staring up into the night sky, which was slowly breaking as the coming sun signalled the early morning. She had read of some of the exploits of one Buffy Summers, the Slayer who fought the big nasties of infamous Hellmouth in Sunnydale, California. While her hometown of Wickford, just outside London in England had it’s fair share of vampires, demons, witches and other general badness, it was no Hellmouth.

Thank my lucky stars I’ve not had anything that serious to deal with, Chloe thought.

Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t a member of the famed Scooby gang, otherwise she might have known not to tempt fate like this. Because generally speaking, fate was a bitch on PMS, and tended to not have too much compassion for the race of man it presided over.

The Hyperion Hotel, Los Angeles

Angel couldn’t believe what he had just seen. He rubbed his eyes furiously, and shook his head, glancing in the doorway where she had just been. Cordelia. But it couldn’t have been…she was gone.

“Cordy?” Angel called, half hoping for a reply and half knowing there wouldn’t be one.

The logical side of him was correct, no reply. He got up and threw on a black button down shirt, not bothering with the buttons, and ran into the lobby.

Upon surviving THAT alley after taking out the Senior Partner’s earthly manifestations, Spike, Gunn, Illyria and himself had retreated out of town for a while. They then returned to their old headquarters, the Hyperion Hotel, only to find Lorne there. He had said he had nowhere else to go, and Angel had supposed that it was true of all of them. After the alleyway incident, Wolfram and Hart’s influence had all but disappeared from Los Angeles, whether it was the same elsewhere had yet to be seen.

Angel walked into the room where they kept the books and picked a file out of the shelf bearing the name Dante on it. He quickly read the file, and then gazed up in horror.

“Him…but why a kid Cordy? Why’s he after a kid?” Angel said to himself, as there was a knock on the door behind him, and he heard a distinctly cockney accent say “, what’s the matter? Bed bugs bite?”

Beauchamps High School, Wickford

The window of the car rolled down, and there Chloe spotted Andy in the driver’s seat.

“I’ve cracked it, kiddo. Hop in,” Andy said to her.

Chloe opened the car door and got in, depositing her school bag in the back seat.

“So? What’s the what?” Chloe asked, as Andy pulled away bound for his house.

“We’re going on a little holiday. The Council has arranged for a flight to Japan for us leaving tomorrow, and for your parents to conveniently win a prize holiday to Marrakech leaving tonight,” Andy said.

“Nice, I lose the ‘rents for a while and get a free holiday out of the deal. But why Japan?” Chloe asked.

“Now this is where it gets a little interesting,” Andy said “, the fox demon you saw in your dreams, it’s called the Kyuubi. It exists in a land known as Elementia.”

“Elementia? Never heard of it,” Chloe answered, puzzled.

“Neither has the majority of the free world. Elementia lies in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle, and scarce has visitors from the outside world,” Andy replied.

“The Bermuda Triangle? Then why are we going to bloody Japan?!” Chloe asked, even more puzzled then previously.

“Elementia is located within the Bermuda Triangle sure enough, but the only way to actually get there is through a portal gate located in Okinawa, Japan,” Andy replied.

“AAAAAhhhhhh, I get it…I think,” Chloe said, looking down.

“Good, because soon, you’ll be party to a secret of this world that even Buffy Summers is unaware of. And you understand it must stay that way. We have an understanding with…let’s say, the ruling powers of that land. You’ve got to keep schtum, okay?” Andy informed her.

“Fine. Let’s get going already, I’m getting antsy,” Chloe said, as the car arrived at Andy’s house.

“We leave early tomorrow morning. Take it easy tonight, no patrolling. Elementia has a store of surprises, and you’ll be a better Slayer for the experience,” Andy stated, as he turned the key in his door and entered his house.

A washed out bar, Prague, later that night

Poor Willy. He always picked the wrong place to open up shop, if only he didn’t have such snitch-like tendencies, he’d have a lot less hospital bills. The man pointed the top of the blade at Willy’s throat now, as he sat there slumped behind the bar in his well practiced cowering posture.

“I’ll ask you again,” said the sword’s wielder “, the gate, where is it?”

“Fine, fine, fine, as far as I know, Okinawa Japan! Okay?! Okay?!” Willy moaned.

“Details, Willy, I better start hearing details,” the man once again said, pressing the blade closer to Willy’s throat.

“I don’t know man, really, honestly, Okinawa is as much as I can tell ya, I’m sorry!” Willy yelled as he wet himself.

“Fine,” the man said, raising his sword and replacing it on his back, before hauling a dead demon on to the bar, pulling a couple of bills from it’s pocket, and throwing them at him.

“For the beers,” the man said, as he left, leaving Willy with yet another bar to completely refurbish, and yet another pile of demon corpses to dispose of.

Okinawa, Japan, two days later

“Well, I guess this is it,” Andy said, gazing up at the ancient stone gate that sat in the middle of a dense bamboo forest located some two hours away from Okinawa village.

“Really? I thought there’d be like, guards and stuff…I wanted to use my nunchucks on them!” Chloe exclaimed, before swinging her newly acquired toys around and hitting herself in the head with them for the umpteenth time that day.

“Chloe, it’s nun-chuck-oo and put them away for god’s sake, you do more damage to yourself than you’ll do any enemies. Stick to your stake will ya?” Andy said, annoyed that he ever agreed to let her buy them ‘for shits ‘n’ giggles’ in that shop in Tokyo.

He sat down, and took out a scroll, and several candles and candle holders.

“Sooooooooo, what ya doin’?” Chloe shouted as she leapt on Andy’s back all of a sudden.

“Oit, get off! I’m preparing the ritual to get us to Elementia, and if you put me off, we could end up skewered in the borders of time and space, or worse,” Andy moaned, shrugging her off “, I swear, sometime I think you need to cut down on the bloody coffee.”

All of a sudden, Chloe hopped up, gazing off past the gate.

“You mean like that one over there?” Chloe asked, pointing to the ground that lie opposite to them on the other side of the gate.

Lying there on the ground, were a circle of burned out candles, arranged in the same way Andy was arranging them for his ritual, which seemed to be not long since burned out.

“Isn’t that exactly the same as what you’re doing? And I reckon those candles have only been out for…an hour maybe?” Chloe said.

“Hmm,” Andy pondered, eyes narrowed at the gate “, it would appear someone else has gone through the gate as well, no longer than an hour ago. We best be careful.”

Andy lit the candles, and stood in the centre, speaking the incantation.

Suddenly, the wind began to roar heavily, bending the nearby bamboo trees almost clean out of their roots in the earth. Lightning crackled between the frame way of the gate, and all of a sudden a large blue portal opened in front of the two of them.

“Hmmm, I’d call that a success. Come on then. Brave new world ahead,” Andy said, smiling at a slightly unnerved Chloe before they both walked through the portal.

The world was white. An endless sea of white, except for one solitary figure, a blond haired boy in black and orange overalls. Chloe ran as fast as she could towards him, and stopped as he turned around.

“It’s okay. It’s almost the end now. You don’t have to fight alone anymore. The lie ends now, and we stand together,” he said smiling widely at her.

“I don’t understand. Who are you? The end of what? Where am I?” Chloe asked.

“Like I said, the end of everything. And I won’t lose, no matter what, believe it!” the blond haired kid said with gusto, giving her the thumbs up as he began to fade away…

There was a rush of wind around her ears, as Chloe fell face first on to what felt like sand. She stood up, and found herself lying on a beach that seemed to outlay a small village. She looked around, but Andy was nowhere to be seen.

“Great, fan-bloody-tastic. First, I have a conversation with the cryptic Mr. Confidence, then I end up in the arse end of nowhere, completely alone!” Chloe moaned, as she scanned the village for signs of life. There were none.

She walked across the beach, and up a pathway, into the village itself, peering around.

“Hello? Anyone there?” Chloe shouted, thinking it was strange that a village like that was so quiet at this time of the day. Not that she knew which time EXACTLY that was. But it was still damn creepy.

“Oi!” a voice suddenly shouted from a tree above, and as Chloe looked up, she was struck hard right in the face with a coconut, knocking her flat on her back.

Gawd, lovely welcome, Chloe thought, getting to her feet to see her attacker jump down from the tree.

Standing there, was a man who looked in his mid twenties, with bleach blond hair wearing a leather trench coat and smoking a cigarette.

“Hmmm, you’re a tasty little bit ain’t ya?” the man said “, too bad you’re with flashy bollocks!”

As he spoke the last few words he leapt into action, throwing a right cross straight at Chloe’s face. Chloe quickly blocked, throwing a cross of her own in return, only to have that blocked also. Both fighters’ arms locked up, Chloe went for the man’s stomach and landed a heavy knee, forcing the man to let go of her arms and keel over. She then attempted to kick the man in the face, but he caught her leg and threw her to the ground.

“Ooo, the girl’s got skills,” the man said taunting her “, I do love a blond who can fight.”

“Fight this you creep,” Chloe shouted back, as she spun and nailed the man with a spinning back kick to the gut, knocking him clean over.

As he got up, Chloe saw his face transform to a vampiric visage.

“You’ve gone and gotten me all worked up now love. You’ll have to stay till the finish,” the man said, leaping over her head and grabbing her from behind.

“Now, you tell me what you want with the boy,” he asked her, hand poised to snap her neck.

“Boy? What boy? What you banging on about?” Chloe asked, slightly scared at the vampire having bested her like this. No vampires back home ever gave her a challenge like this one.

Suddenly, there was a sharp click, and a familiar voice spoke “, I suggest you let go of her if I were you, vampire. This gun isn’t loaded with any ordinary bullets, I’ll assure you that.”

The man let go of her, and Chloe turned to see Andy pointing his new revolver at the back of the man’s head.

“Chloe, you got sloppy, keep your guard up yeah?” Andy said, throwing her a stake “, now do like your calling tells you and finish this one so we can move on.”

“Wait, calling? You’re a Slayer?! That explains it!” the man said, apparently forgetting about the gun pointed at him and lowering his hands.

“Yes, she’s the Slayer, and you’re just another vampire my friend,” Andy said, stepping back but keeping his aim true.

“In that case, I should probably introduce myself to avoid getting all dusty. Name’s Spike,” the man said, smiling at them.

Chloe looked puzzled, and shrugged.

“The other vampire with a soul?” Spike said.

More puzzled looks.

“I know who you are,” Andy said all of a sudden, breaking his silence “, Spike AKA William the Bloody. One of the fiercest vampires who ever lived. Killed two Slayers.”

“Erm, you’ve only told half the story mate,” Spike said, getting slightly more nervous as Chloe raised her stake in preparation to strike.

Andy suddenly smiled, and holstered his weapon. Chloe, slightly confused, followed his lead and did the same.

“Yeah I know,” he said “, just wanted to see the mighty Spike sweat a little. So why are you here? And why did you attack Chloe?”

“I’m here on behalf of Angel, the great galloping poof is too busy in our world and he sent me to deal with some nasty fella, I thought you two were with him,” Spike explained.

“No, it’s just us,” Chloe said “, what were you talking about, nasty fella?”

“That annoying flashy bloke with the cool sword, I was tracking his movements across Europe before he came here, Angel reckons he’s some big bad that needs putting out of the picture, sent me to do his dirty work, the sod,” Spike told them.

“Well, it only makes sense if we stick together. We could use a guy with your skills, in an unknown world such as this,” Andy said.

“Yeah, I suppose. So what you chaps doing here then?” Spike asked.

“Chloe’s been having these prophetic dreams, I did the research, it lead us here,” Andy explained.

“Well we all know what a Slayer’s dreams can bloody well entail…wait, you’re her Watcher?!” Spike exclaimed, clearly surprised at Andy’s youth.

“That’s me, Andy Smith, Watcher extraordinaire,” Andy said, smiling as he walked past an astounded Spike and a giggling Chloe.

“But you’re not wearing nearly enough tweed! Oh, sod it, I give up…so what’s your name little bit?” Spike asked Chloe.

“Chloe, Vampire Slayer of Wickford in Essex, England,” Chloe said, introducing herself to him as she admired his physical condition.

Mmm, I’d eat him whole if I got the chance, Chloe thought to herself.

“Oh god, an Essex bird…never mind, just keep your legs to yourself and you’ll do fine,” Spike quipped, walking past her and after Andy.

“Oi!!!!!!!! How DARE you?! I should stake you right now, I am NOT an ‘Essex bird’!” she yelled at him, before marching up to him, slapping him and stomping off after Andy in a sulk.

“What it is with me and Slayers, I always get the slightly unhinged ones…” Spike muttered to himself, rubbing his sore jaw as he pressed on after the two of them.

A day later, somewhere in a large town

“Does anyone know where we’re going? Well?” Chloe nagged, looking between both Andy and Spike, as they walked through yet another deserted town.

“I’ve been tracking this wanker’s scent the whole time, don’t worry, we’ll catch up,” Spike said, waving his hand at her.

“Except I find it a bit odd that this is the third town we’ve been through that’s been deadly silent,” Andy said, gazing around the ghost town.

“Can’t smell anyone else either…” Spike said, sniffing.

Suddenly, he threw an arm in front of the two of them.

“Wait!” he exclaimed, his voice lowering to a quiet whisper “, someone’s nearby. And they don’t want us to know that they are.”

Suddenly, a shuriken came flying out from seemingly nowhere, and almost caught Chloe square in the eyes if it wasn’t for Spike’s hand shooting out and grabbing it. Chloe’s chest heaved heavily, as she stared at the shuriken stopped a mere inch from her face.

“Thanks,” she barely whispered, as suddenly a man appeared between them all, wielding a kunai knife. Chloe reacted, grabbing the shuriken from Spike’s hand and flinging it, nailing the man straight in the back of his head. As his body fell, there was a puff of smoke and it was gone, replaced by a falling log with a shuriken sticking out of it.

“What the shit?!” Chloe yelped, as the three of them were suddenly surrounded by four men wearing tattered travelling clothes and headband with a metal plate which had some kind of hourglass symbol on it. Chloe grabbed out her only weapon, a wooden stake, and charged the four of them, when all of a sudden a thick mist descended, and all four attackers and Spike and Andy were nowhere to be found.

“Now this is new…” Chloe said to herself, quickly looking around. All of a sudden, sand began to rise around her like some sort of sandstorm. For a minute, she was lost in the haze, but she suddenly noticed a glint from the corner of her eye, and jumped back, as several kunai crashed to the ground on the spot she once stood on. The sand fell and the mist suddenly cleared, only for Chloe to see Spike going at it hand to hand with one of the attackers, and Andy warding off the other three with some type of fireball spell.

“Spike, hurry, we’re fighting a losing battle here!” Andy yelled.

Chloe looked down at herself. What in the hell just happened? Just then, there was a rushing sound and as she looked up, one of the attackers was suddenly upon her, kunai drawn, ready to strike. She cursed herself, she had hesitated and it was all over. The attacker raised the kunai, a mad glint in his eye, and Chloe closed her eyes, awaiting death, when suddenly, there was a flash of blue light, and a voice yelled:

“RASENGAN!!!!”

A/N: No love? Fine, I'll keep posting anyways...

Chapter Two

A blur. A flash. For Chloe, everything seemed to be moving too fast, but somehow in slow motion at the same time. Almost like she could see everything that was going on, but knew she was powerless to alter any of it. The bandit was bearing down on her, kunai in hand ready to deliver the coup de grace, when a strange hand came out of nowhere and blew her attacker away with some kind of blue energy ball, sending him spiralling into the distance. She had fallen back on to her ass during the attack, and now looked up at her rescuer. He wore what appeared to be a purple armoured kimono complete with arm and shin guards, much like what a samurai wore when not in full combat armour. He had short to medium length mousy dark brown hair, and carried a large sake gourd at his hip.

"What's wrong, you weren't even going to try a substitution jutsu? Do you have a death wish?!" the man shouted at her.

"A substitution what? What in the hell?! Who are you?" Chloe asked.

"Daniel Harries, and I'm shocked you don't even know what a substitution jutsu is! What kind of shinobi are you?" Harries said with an almost annoyed look on his face.

A puzzled look spread across Chloe's face, and before she could answer, there was a huge explosion as Andy hurled a ball of fire at his attacker, which the attacker dodged narrowly, before hurling shuriken in their direction. Harries suddenly disappeared, reappearing behind the attacker and knocking him out with one blow to the head. Andy turned, and quickly levelled his gun at their mysterious savoir, experience telling him to trust no one in a strange land such as this.

"You're fast, no doubt, but I'd bet the bullets in this gun are faster. Speak quickly, who are you?" Andy asked.

"Like I already told your lady companion here, my name is Daniel Harries. I am a grand wandering ninja originating from the Hidden Village of the Leaf, the first pupil of the great Jiriaya!" the man proudly proclaimed, striking a pose.

Andy and Chloe stood there, completely blank.

"Say what?" Chloe said slowly.

"You mean you've never heard of me?!" Harries said, quickly deflated.

"What is it with people and their egos today, speaking of which"¦where in the hell is Spike?!" Chloe exclaimed, quickly scanning around.

He was on top of a rock, vamped out with blood around his mouth, standing over the third attacker, who was out cold.

"Don't worry pet, he's not dead. I just took enough to knock him out, the bugger wouldn't go down no matter how hard I hit him," Spike explained.

Harries spotted Spike, and upon seeing his face, automatically charged another blue ball of energy.

"You, you must be with him!" Harries yelled.

"No wait, stop!" Chloe yelled hopping to her feet ", he's with us, he's one of the good guys!"

Harries relaxed, and the ball disappeared.

"But his face"¦he's a monster," Harries said, eyes still narrowed, clearly distrusting of Spike.

Spike walked over to him, never once breaking eye contact and said ", you're not the first to call me that. And you won't be the least, because I am what I am. But don't for a second think I'm not dedicated to fighting the good fight, got that mate?"

Harries peered into Spike's eyes, and answered ", the conviction of your words proves them true. Sorry to have doubted you friend. Although your"¦nature still confuses me, but I suppose every man must have his secrets."

"No harm done mate," Spike replied, taking a step back and taking off his game face.

"So who were those guys? And how come they could do all that cool shit? And you, how can YOU do it while we're on the subject?" Chloe asked.

"They were ninja, as am I. What rock have you been living under?" Harries answered.

Andy then stepped in, and spoke ", Chloe, there are some things about this world you should know about."

Between them, Andy and Harries told Chloe and Spike of the ninja of Elementia, the ninja villages, and the nature of chakra, taijutsu, ninjutsu and genjutsu.

"So you're telling me all that sand I got caught in was a genjutsu thingy?" Chloe asked.

"Indeed, and it is surprising that a non-ninja like yourself was able to see through it in time to dodge those kunai. That is why I thought you were a ninja at first," Harries explained.

"Ah, my turn to explain"¦" Chloe began, before Andy quickly interrupted ", she's a martial arts practitioner, just a little combat experience, point sparring, that sort of thing. She got lucky I guess."

Andy then grabbed her arm, and pulled her aside near Spike.

"What the hell?!" Chloe squealed.

"Yeah, what's up with the secrets watcher boy?" Spike asked.

"We can't let anyone from this land find out our true origins. The Watcher's Council have forbade it, it was tough enough getting permission to journey here, and even then it was under the express rule that we do NOT reveal where we came from. For ANY reason. Understood?" Andy explained, speaking with seriousness in his voice that Chloe scarcely ever heard.

Spike immediately nodded his head, and walked to inspect the bodies of their fallen attackers, whilst Chloe stood and tried to take in what the Council demanded. Eventually, she spoke up.

"Fine. But it doesn't mean I have to like this. You don't usually adhere to ANYTHING the Council says, unless it comes from Giles or Andrew themselves," Chloe stated, before wandering off in Harries' direction.

"So where were you headed?" Harries asked her.

"We're trailing a guy with a large sword on his back, he must have passed through here," Spike answered for her.

"Ah, the same man I am tracking. He has appeared throughout the Country of the Wave and every population centre he visits suddenly becomes devoid of life," Harries explained.

He paused a minute and gazed off into the middle distance before turning back to the others.

"I propose that I journey with you. I wish to find out more about this man, and you obviously need someone with my amazing skill to defend you from bandits and rogue ninja of their ilk," Harries said, shooting a glance off in the fallen attackers' direction ", and of course, I'm always looking to expand my sexual horizons!"

As he said this, he looked rather lecherously in Chloe's direction.

"I suppose so," Andy replied ", I'd hate to be felled by one of these guys before we even got to where we wanna go. But they'll be no "˜expanding' of any kind with her, got it?"

"Oh fine, it doesn't have to be her! Then it's settled. The man we're tracking was seen headed in the direction of my old home of the Hidden Village of the Leaf, so we'll head there," Harries informed them.

Andy nodded in agreement, and after scavenging weapons, equipment and rations from the fallen attackers, they headed after the man, in the direction of Konoha Village.

As they headed out, Harries gazed thoughtfully at the intriguing young girl who had managed to evade the genjutsu with no ninja abilities at all.

Just who or what are you, young lady? I intend to find out, Harries thought, as they reached the borders of Wave Country and prepared to enter the Land of Fire.

A few days walking inside the borders of the Land of Fire, and suddenly a great bird appeared overhead, and landed on Harries' shoulder, carrying a scroll.

"What's that exactly?" Chloe asked.

"A message from Konoha. I sent one in advance two nights ago asking for information on the man we seek. The Fifth Hokage, Tsunade-sama, says there have been reports of the man sighted near the village. We must hurry, time is short and our enemy slips further from our grasp," Harries announced ", I will go ahead, I can get there much faster by myself."

He then bit his thumb to draw blood, wiped it across a scroll he pulled free from the other hand and performed a series of hand symbols, before shouting ", KUCHIYOSE NO JUTSU!!!" before slamming his bloody palm into the ground.

There was a plume of smoke that sprang from where his hand was, and standing there, was a small orange frog.

"Heya there gang!" the frog yelled with frightening chirpiness.

"What the hell did you do?! And why does the frog talk?" Chloe yelped upon hearing the frog speak.

""˜The frog' has a name missy, it's Gamakichi, and don't you forget it!" the frog yelled in annoyance at Chloe's hysteria.

"It is a simple summoning jutsu. You make a contract with an ninja animal and you can summon it to do your bidding," Harries explained ", now Gamakichi, guide these people to Konoha, do not worry, Tsunade is expecting us. I will go ahead alone; there is something I must attend to at once."

"You're joking mate! We're gonna follow a sodding frog?!" Spike exclaimed.

"Oh don't you worry, he's more than capable," Harries said "; now let's not waste any more time. I shall await your arrival."

He then suddenly disappeared in a cloud of smoke, and was nowhere to be seen.

"You heard the man, let's press on, it's getting dark soon anyways, and I'd like to reach Konoha before nightfall," Andy said ", ok Gamakichi, lead the way."

The group made the gate of Konoha at nightfall, and were greeted by several men wearing green vests and the same kind of headbands their previous attackers wore, but with a swirl Leaf pattern instead of an hourglass. They lead the group through the gates, and up a thriving main street of the village, towards a large pagoda-like building at the very end. Behind the building was a large mountain with faces carved on to it.

"What's up with the mountain?" Chloe asked.

Gamakichi, who sat perched on her shoulder, explained ", it's the Hokage mountain. Those are the faces of the great Hokages of past and present, the two on the left are the First and Second Hokages, the founders of this village, and the one in the centre is our recently departed Third Hokage, Sarutobi. On his right is the greatest ninja who ever lived, the mighty Fourth Hokage. The Third Hokage had retired, but when the Fourth died fighting the mighty fox demon who attacked our village, he came out of retirement to run the village once more. Finally, the furthest on the right is our current Hokage, Lady Tsunade."

"Fox demon you say?" Chloe quickly asked, her mind racing back to her dream.

"Yes, the powerful and evil Kyuubi. The Fourth faced him and sealed him within a newborn baby, saving Konoha from destruction," Gamakichi explained.

Chloe fell silent, she did not want to say anything out loud about her dream, and the look on Andy's face that he had acknowledged the same train of thought has her was good enough for now. She just hated all this secrecy.

They reached the large doors, and proceeded to the top floor of the building, where they were lead into a large study. In this study was a desk at the far end, at which sat a beautiful blonde woman with blue eyes and a rather large chest, wearing a brown kimono and green robes. She also had an unusual diamond on her forehead.

"Well, looks like the scenery has definitely just improved," Spike muttered to himself upon eyeing the woman.

"You are the visitors Harries spoke of yes?" the woman asked.

Chloe suddenly recognised her face as the same one carved on the mountain. Andy then stepped forward.

"We are indeed, Lady Tsunade," Andy replied with a bow.

"Please don't bow, you're making me feel old," Tsunade replied, and then waved her hand in the direction of the men who had escorted them here, and with an explosion of smoke, they were gone.

"The Watcher's Council sent you I assume," Tsunade then said, much of the shock of Spike and Chloe.

"How do you know of the Council?" Chloe asked.

"The Hokages of this land maintain relations with the Council, in order to keep a balance between our land and the rest of the planet. They do not wish to allow any, shall we say, unsavoury elements of our land on to the rest of the earth, and vice versa. I have no interest of adding demons to my growing list of problems," Tsunade explained.
"I'm sorry Chloe, I couldn't tell you sooner but I didn't know who might have been listening," Andy said, nodding his head thoughtfully before turning back to Tsunade ", well, we both know your world isn't entirely demon-free, my lady. I have reason to believe the Kyuubi will threaten the rest of the planet soon, and I have been sent here to consult you about this and decide the course of action."

"The Kyuubi? The demon has been sealed inside one of our ninja for a long time now, he is no threat," Tsunade explained.

"I would not be so sure, my lady. In addition, there is also a man in your land, we believe he is very close by. He is dangerous," Andy told her.

"Yes, the messenger bird Harries sent informed me of that. Apparently, one of the villagers encountered him yesterday," Tsunade said.

"One of the villagers? Is he okay?" Chloe asked.

"Yes, he is fine. He is out in the woods just outside the village now, perhaps you should go talk to him yourselves, get his story firsthand," Tsunade suggested.

"Yes, we'll do just that. Thank you kindly for your assistance Lady Tsunade. Your beauty does not betray your years," Andy said with a smile and a nod.

"And your wisdom does not betray yours, Watcher. I will see you all back here in a few hours,"

"Very well," Andy replied, before turning and leading Spike and Chloe from the study to the outside where several men were waiting to take them to the spot Tsunade spoke of.

Just as the door closed behind them, a voice spoke up ", so I was right. She is a Slayer."

"I wondered when you would be making an appearance," Tsunade replied, as Harries entered the room through the open window via the balcony outside.

"And I would ask you why you didn't notice me before, but hey, this is me we're talking about," Harries said with a smile.

"Charming as ever," Tsunade replied with a roll of her eyes ", so what do you think?"

"I wondered why she was able to avoid a genjutsu almost instinctively, but I never thought she'd be a Slayer. I thought the Watcher's Council weren't supposed to poke around our yard?" Harries said.

"I do not think the Council would have allowed them here easily. This girl and her Watcher are very strong willed, I believe they are here for their own reasons," Tsunade said ", I want you to stay with them, Harries. I don't like this at all"¦I have the feeling that something terrible is brewing, and we're still not back to full strength after dealing with Orochimaru's attack."

"Whenever you get a bad feeling, insurance brokers get headaches. Very well, but you owe me a night on the town when this is over," Harries said with a wink.

Tsunade smiled back and said ", I'll drink you under the table."

Chloe, Spike and Andy stepped through the forest clearing and saw a young man with dirty blonde spiky hair wearing a short sleeved shirt which wasn't buttoned up, exposing his athletic torso, and a dark green pair of shorts that stopped just below the knee, complete with black sandals on his feet. On the shirt's back was a large red and white symbol that looked like some kind of fan. The man stood kicking and punching a tree, and then several targets sprang up behind him. He quickly leapt into the air and threw several kunai at them, striking them all directly in the head. As he hit the ground, another bunch sprung up in front of him, and he quickly formed several symbols with his hands.

"Katon: Hosenka no jutsu!" the man yelled, as he proceed to spit out several balls of fire that struck every single target. He landed and turned to face the group.

"How in the hell did he do that?" Chloe whispered to Andy.

"Chakra manipulation, like Harries told you about earlier. It is the mainstay of a ninja's abilities, techniques like this are known as ninjutsu, remember?" Andy said, reminding her of the explanation Harries had given her back in Wave Country.

"Oh yeah," Chloe said, snapping her head up and gazing in the direction of the man. She stared intently for a minute or so, admiring the man's physical condition, before the man broke the silence.

"See anything you like?" he said, smiling at her.

Chloe suddenly blushed, and ducked away behind Andy.

"You're the guy Tsunade spoke of? You met the strange bloke with the sword?" Spike asked.

The man eyed Spike warily, and spoke "; you're not quite human, are you?"

"Everyone seems to be picking up on that today. What of it?" Spike replied.

The man looked Spike up and down, and suddenly his eyes turned red with circles in them which were arrayed with two pinwheels.

"Your chakra is like his, dark, except his was more prominent. Yours has some human mixed in there too," the man said.

"That's what you get for being a vampire with a soul mate," Spike told him.

The man was taken aback for a second, then replied ", if you're a vampire, how did you journey here in broad daylight?"

"Different land, different rules apparently," Spike explained offhandedly, much to the bemused expression of the mystified man.

Andy quickly stepped in and commandeered the conversation ", I am Andy, and this is Spike and Chloe. We are pursuing the man you said you encountered yesterday. Can you tell us what happened?"

"I am Zeve Uchiha. And yes, I will tell you exactly what happened," the man replied.

The previous evening

Zeve had been working on his Grand Fireball jutsu for some time now, strengthening it. Although it was the very first fire jutsu Uchiha clan members were taught, it was also one of the strongest and most useful in a ninja's arsenal. His sensei always told him that the fundamentals could be the most powerful assets in a fight.

"Katon: Gokakyu no jutsu!" he yelled as he spat a large rolling ball of flame at the cluster of pop up targets in front of him, incinerating them all in one go.

Suddenly, there was the sound of clapping behind him, and Zeve turned to see a man in a long black coat with long black hair wearing aviator sunglasses with a large sword strapped on his back leaning against a tree.

"Really, that's impressive," the man said.

"Who are you?" Zeve asked.

"It doesn't matter. You know where the Kyuubi kid is? Naruto Uzumaki?" the man asked.

"What do you want with Naruto?" Zeve asked, dropping into a fighting stance.

"None of your business, kid. Just a job I have to do;" the man said ", now I wouldn't go getting aggressive if I were you."

"You haven't seen aggressive yet," Zeve replied, before leaping up towards the stranger and throwing several kunai down at his position.

"That all you got kid?" the man said before he pulled out two metallic objects, and aimed them at the incoming kunai.

Suddenly there was a serious of loud bangs, and flashes from the end of the objects, and the kunai fell harmlessly to the ground.

The man put the objects back in some holsters inside his coat and said ", try harder."

What kind of jutsu or ninja weapon was that?! Zeve thought, as he activated his Sharingan eyes.

The man's chakra aura was dark, and deeply powerful, Zeve had never seen anything like it before. Unfortunately for Zeve, the battlefield doesn't allow you time to think for too long, and suddenly the man was behind him, sword drawn and pressed to his throat.

"What are you?" he asked.

"Ah, so your eyes can do tricks, they're not just for show. Well, it was fun playing kid, I'll see you around," the man answered, before feeling the sword's pressure on his throat subside.

Zeve looked around, but he was nowhere to be found.

"So he basically realised you wasn't going to talk, and he left?" Andy asked.

"It seems that way," Zeve replied ", he did not wear the markings of any village however. Even missing nin still usually sport their old village's forehead protector in battle."

"Really? So it is your belief that he is not a shinobi?" Andy asked.

"If he is, he's of a type that I've never seen or heard of before. I asked my sensei about it and he was also unsure," Zeve told them.

"Perhaps I would have a word with your sensei?" Andy asked.

"Anything for the good of my village," Zeve said, as he turned and began to walk with them back to town.

Chloe was about to ask Zeve about his lack of forehead protector when there was a cry from the forest nearby. Chloe was quickest to respond, and turned and began sprinting in the direction of the shout.

She ran through the trees, until she reached another clearing where she saw the man who had fought with Zeve with his sword drawn, aiming it at a small blonde boy in orange overalls who was clutching his gut and breathing heavily.

Zeve came running through the trees behind her, and yelled ", Naruto!"

Andy was close behind, and spied the young blonde boy.

So that's Naruto"¦I can sense the power coming off of him in waves, it's amazing, Andy thought, before drawing his revolver.

Suddenly, Chloe's hand pushed the barrel down.

"No, no killing. I want to see exactly what this guy wants," Chloe said.

The man lunged forward at Naruto with his sword, and it seemed destined to hit his target until, at the last second, Chloe's palm struck the broad flat side of the sword and deflected it away, the sword flying out of the man's hand and cluttering to the ground.

The man turned to her, and all in one motion and nearly too fast for Chloe to see, drew a handgun with his free hand and pressed the barrel against Chloe's temple.

"Don't get in my way little girl," the man said.

"Why are you trying to kill Naruto?" Chloe asked.

"It's a job. And it's the only way I can find HIM," the man replied.

"But he's an innocent boy!" Chloe yelled.

"He's a demon!" the man replied.

"Hey!" Naruto yelled, getting to his feet ", I'm NOT a demon! I'm human just like you!"

"Just like me eh?" the man replied ", you so sure? I know about the Kyuubi, kid. You and I are a lot alike. But now I have to kill you."

With his free hand, the man drew a second handgun, crossed it over his other arm, and pointed it at Naruto. Several sharp gunshots sounded, and Chloe closed her eye tightly.

She re-opened them, and looked over to Naruto, who stood there unharmed. In front of him, lying on the floor with several bullets in his chest was Spike.

He leaned up, and quickly clutched his chest, yelling ", ARGHHHH! BLOODY HELL!!!"

"A vampire? Why do you protect the boy?" the man asked.

"Because like the boy, this vampire has a soul. And I'm not letting people get harmed on my watch mate," Spike replied.

"Wait"¦William the Bloody. So you passed through the portal too?" the man asked.

"Correct again. A friend, well I say friend, more like loathed co-worker, had someone long dead appear to him. Gave him a message, to stop you from killing him, so here I am. And so far, stop you I have," Spike said.

"Only so far. Make no mistake, the demon's gotta die," the man said.

"But he's NOT a demon!" Chloe yelled once more.

Suddenly, there was a plume of smoke, and Harries appeared standing on a large tree branch above them.

"She speaks the truth. He is no demon. The Kyuubi you seek is merely sealed inside of him, like a container if you will. Now please, lower your weapons and listen to reason," Harries said calmly.

The man lowered his guns, and holstered them.

"Now, perhaps you should answer a few questions for me, or my friend may start to get a little antsy. Who are you, and why are you here?" Harries said, levelling a gaze right at him.

"My name is Mark Crowe. I was hired by a man named Itachi and his organisation Akatsuki to come here and kill the kid," the man explained.

"Itachi?!" Naruto shouted, getting up and clenching his fists at the mention of his name.

A flicker of surprise crossed Harries' face, and then he asked ", perhaps you should come with us. There is much we need to discuss," Harries said, jumping down from the tree.

Just as Mark was about to speak once more, a giant crash came from behind them, and several trees fell to the ground. The group turned simultaneously and was that standing there was a large muscle-bound demon wielding a giant axe.

"Rothkild," Mark said with utter distaste.

"You broke the contract, half breed scum. The Akatsuki will be most displeased. Of course, that means the contract is mine now, and Akatsuki have promised me all the young girls I could ever need!" the disgusting demon said with a demented grin that displayed a row of razor sharp teeth ", all I have to do, is eliminate you."

"If you manage that," Mark said, drawing his sword ", then you'd have earned your reward ten times over!"

Mark then rushed at the big demon, and as the demon raised his axe overhead and swung it down hurtling for Mark's skull, raised his sword and firmly blocked the blow, holding his axe in place. He then drew one of his guns and pressed it to the demon's stomach before firing repeatedly, blowing the demon's insides out into the open, and dropping him to the ground.

"Huh, that was boring"¦" Mark said, as he walked away from the demon.

The rest of the group stared in amazement at the ease of which Mark had felled the giant demon. He carried on walking past them all, and said ", are we going then?"

They were about to walk about when a bright light flared behind them, and the demon's body began to glow, before transforming into a huge clawed serpent.

"You achieved transcendence Rothkild, impressive," Mark said, taking off his sunglasses and putting them in his pocket.

His dark eyes gazed at the giant snake, and suddenly the snake belched 15 to 20 man-sized lizard-like creatures that sprang up from the ground.

"Okay, not good," Chloe said, drawing a stake.

Alongside her, Spike readied a pair of brass knuckles, and a fireball flared to life in Andy's palm. Zeve drew two kunai in each hand, and dropped into another fighting stance. Opposite to them, Harries called forth the ball of blue energy from earlier, standing guard in front of the injured Naruto.

"I'll protect the boy, you guys tackle the lizard men," Harries said to them, as they all nodded in agreement.

The group rushed in, and the battle began in its earnest.

"God, do these sodding things die?!" Chloe yelled, having stabbed one in the heart with her stake, but to no avail.

"The answer to that is-," Andy said, as he shot one in the head and blew another way with a lightning blast, only to watch them get to their feet ", no."

"They only survive as long as mother over there does," Mark explained, parrying a claw to the head and slicing said claw clean off.

"But none of us can get near the bugger!" Spike yelled, punching a lizard man clean in the jaw and toppling him over.

The serpent then began to move towards Naruto, and several of the lizard men with it. Harries leapt forward as the lizard men attacked, and he quickly threw several kunai with strings attached to them, that either landed in the ground behind the liz men, or connected and stuck into them. Then, quickly forming several hand seals, he yelled ", Katon: Ryu Kaki no justu!"

Waves of fire zipped along the strings and exploded into the lizard men, blasting them back several feet and burning them heavily in the process. Then, Harries had realised his mistake. In attacking the lizard men, he has fallen for the trick of attacking the sacrificial decoy whilst the person he was protecting was exposed. The giant snake had slipped around Harries, and was right on top of Naruto, who was still heavily weakened and in no position to defend himself. The snake reared its head up, and lunged forward when there was a bright flash.

The fighting stopped, and everyone looked around to see a man standing there wearing a similar outfit as the ninja who escorted them at the village gates, grey hair that stood up on end spiking all in one direction and a Leaf village forehead protector, along with a mask that covered his whole face except for his eye line. One of his eyes had a large scar down it and was like Zeve's eyes were earlier, but with three pinwheels rather than two. His arm was electrified, and buried several inches inside the serpent's torso. As he withdrew his arm, the serpent crashed to the ground, and all the lizard men began to dissolve away.

"People have a habit of doing that today! Who the **** is this?!" Spike yelled.

Harries grinned, and said ", may I have to pleasure of introducing to you, Kakashi Hatake."

A/N: I take it there's no Naruto fans on here then? I'll just keep posting anyways...

Chapter Three

Kakashi turned around to look at the stunned combatants as his lightning chakra faded from his arm.

He then simply held up a hand, and waved, saying ", hi."

Zeve ran forwards and shouted ", Kakashi-sensei, you could have gotten here a little sooner!"

"Well, I'm sorry I was late, there was this old lady picking apples in the forest, and she fell over, and I had to help her"¦" Kakashi began.

At that point, both Naruto and Zeve jumped and yelled ", YOU'RE SUCH A LIAR KAKASHI-SENSEI!" in unison.

Kakashi stopped his explanation short and turned to Harries.

"It's been a long time, Harries," Kakashi said flatly.

"Indeed it has, Kakashi," Harries replied just as flatly.

It seemed obvious to everyone present there was some bad blood between them, but everyone remained quiet, even Naruto. That was then a grumble came from the demon corpse, and the sound of someone coughing up blood.

Mark approached the stricken demon, and grabbed it by the neck, hoisting it up in the air ", talk. What in the hell does Akatsuki want with the Kyuubi kid? And where is Ketsumitchi?!"

"You think"¦I know anything"¦about that"¦I just do as I'm told and walk away with payment," the demon spluttered out.

Mark yelled with rage as he crushed the demon's throat and finished him off for good.

"Did you say Ketsumitchi?" Kakashi asked.

"Yeah. The sick bastard my dad was tailing before he disappeared on me and my mum. That was ten years ago," Mark explained.

"I think we'd best return to the Hokage's study, Tsunade-sama will need to hear this," Harries said.

"So, you say your father was tailing Ketsumitchi?" Tsunade asked.

"Yeah, why, he done you wrong too?" Mark asked back.

Kakashi stepped forwards and spoke ", may I?"

"By all means," Tsunade replied.

Kakashi began ", just under a century ago, the First Hokage formed this village with the help of his partner, the man who would become the Second Hokage. Together, they mentored Sarutobi, the man who would become the Third Hokage. That is common knowledge. What is NOT common knowledge however is that Sarutobi did not train alone, he had a partner. That partner's name was Ketsumitchi, a promising young man orphaned during the first Great Ninja War. However, Ketsumitchi began to grow ambitious as he grew powerful, and he grew to rival the First and Second themselves, challenging them directly to take control of Konoha with the intention of taking control of the rest of Elementia, most probably prolonging the war for another few decades. Ketsumitchi was vastly powerful, perhaps as powerful as the Fourth, and history might have been very different if not for the intervention of a young Sarutobi"¦"

Almost a century previously"¦

Sarutobi ran through the forest at blinding speed, eliminating any rogue ninja who got in his way. He had to reach his sensei quickly, or all would be lost.

I cannot remember Ketsumitchi being so powerful, he must have hidden it, Sarutobi thought to himself as he cleared the village wall in one jump, and spotted the First tangling with a giant snake whilst the Second fought Ketsumitchi himself, a giant water dragon flowing behind him and crashing into a wall of solid darkness Ketsumitchi quickly summoned.

"Sensei!" Sarutobi yelled, throwing several kunai with exploding tags on them at Ketsumitchi. Another wall of darkness shot up on Ketsumitchi's left side, and the kunai disappeared into the darkness.

"Sarutobi you fool! Why do you try to destroy ambition?!" Ketsumitchi yelled, as he leapt forwards and smothered the Second in a blanket of darkness, temporarily taking him out of the fight.

"Ambition? You're destroying the village you vowed to protect! Does this mean nothing to you?!" Sarutobi yelled, pointing at the Leaf village forehead protector on his head.

Ketsumitchi pulled his off, and threw it aside.

"They're holding me back, both of the fools. You, you had potential Sarutobi. But you blew it. And now you're just another hurdle in my way to glory," Ketsumitchi said with a sneer, as he suddenly appeared behind Sarutobi with a sheet of darkness extended from his fingertips.

Sarutobi had seen Ketsumitchi take in interest in the forbidden darkness style jutsus when he found information on them during his studies, but never dreamed Ketsumitchi had actually gone a learned them.

"Yamiuchi no jutsu!" Ketsumitchi yelled, as the blanket of darkness covered Sarutobi.

Suddenly, Sarutobi couldn't see a thing, and seemed to be standing in a plain of eternal darkness, for as far as the eye can see.

"A genjutsu?" Sarutobi muttered to himself, halting his flow of chakra to try and break it. The darkness however, did not subside.

"Ha ha, this is no genjutsu," a voice cackled at him, as several kunai flew at him, which he barely dodged ", you are trapped between worlds. This place is the barrier between this life and the afterlife. The realm of darkness. And this realm is also under MY control."

Ketsumitchi himself them appeared, and swung a katana straight at Sarutobi's neck. Sarutobi ducked, and managed to hit Ketsumitchi with a punch of his exposed gut, and a crushing kick to the side of the head. As Ketsumitchi dropped to the floor, he exploded in a puff of smoke.

"A shadow clone," Sarutobi said, readying himself for the next onslaught. It was then that the darkness faded away, and Sarutobi found himself standing in the world of the living once more, on the very spot from which he'd departed it.

To his right, the First and the Second both appeared to have Ketsumitchi on the defensive, he had obviously gotten overconfident and left himself exposed when confronting Sarutobi.

Ketsumitchi stood on the wall of the village, bloody dripping from his mouth, clutching his side and panting heavily.

"YOU HELD ME BACK!!! YOU BOTH HELD ME BACK, IN FEAR!!! AND TODAY I'VE SHOWN BUT A LITTLE TASTE OF WHAT I'M CAPABLE OF!!! I'll RETURN"¦AND THE WORLD WILL BURN BECAUSE OF YOUR IGNORNACE!" Ketsumitchi yelled, before jumping off the wall and disappearing.

""¦and that was the last anyone has ever seen of him," Kakashi said, concluding the tale.

Tsunade then took over "; we erased everything of him from the village's history books, including the forbidden darkness jutsu. He is a dark remnant from this village's past that we'd thought we'd best forget."

"Well, you can't bury your problems, they'll come right back up and bite you in the arse, this proves it," Spike chimed in.

"Erm, thank you Spike," Andy quickly said, cutting him short ", but you say you never saw him again? And Mark here says his father was tailing him ten years ago? I would deduce from that, that Ketsumitchi found a way to cross over into our world."

"Yes, that much is obvious," Tsunade said ", but what does Akatsuki want with Ketsumitchi? Although they are powerful S-class ninja, none of them could hold a candle to Ketsumitchi, he is vastly powerful, and he wouldn't hesitate to kill them all in a heartbeat."

"They never said they were after Ketsumitchi. They said they knew his whereabouts," Mark answered.

"Hmm, it seems we're going to need to find out more. And that means finding either Ketsumitchi or the Akatsuki," Tsunade said resolutely.

"Wait, I have one more question. Mark, who exactly is your father?" Andy asked.

"Dante Crowe, son of Sparda," Mark replied.

Andy and Spike's jaws dropped, whilst everyone else stared at them blankly.

"Dante Crowe"¦" Spike muttered to himself.

Andy gathered his thoughts and explained "; Dante is the son of the legendary dark knight Sparda, the pure demon who turned on his kind to protect the new race of man when the Old Ones were leaving this world."

"Old ones? Demons? Huh?" Naruto shouted, majorly puzzled.

"Naruto, quiet, I will explain everything else later," Kakashi said to him, as Naruto nodded, clearly displeased at being the person in the room who had the least clue as to what was going on.

Andy continued ", Sparda slew the last demon to try and leave, Mundus, and saved the population from being overwhelmed by what Mundus was attempting to create when he fed off the blood of a human and mixed it: the Turok-han, a race of super vampires that a Slayer from our world had the misfortune of facing in more recent times. Instead, what you now know as a common vampire was created. In doing that, Sparda saved the then infant human race from total annihilation."

"And his son?" Chloe asked.

"A legend in his own right, Dante saved the world many times before, and is feared perhaps more than the Slayer within demon circles," Andy explained ", but I never knew he had a son."

"Yeah, well neither does he," Mark revealed, and as he left the room he said ", and I couldn't care less."

Chloe gazed at the open doorway Mark had left through, and then spoke "; I think we hit a nerve there."

"Indeed. In any case, now we have more of an idea what is going on, we need to fan out. I suggest a team of you head out to find any traces of Ketsumitchi and the Akatsuki, while a team stays here to research and corroborate with the village's top ninja to prepare for the crisis. I suggest Zeve should head out with Chloe, Spike, and if you can convince him to go, Mark, whilst the rest of you stay here and work with us," Tsunade said.

"I concur," Andy replied.

"But I am not an official ninja, Tsunade-sama; I cannot undergo something of so much importance. You are better off asking Neji or Lee-san"¦" Zeve began.

"No. The elders of the village have denied you for long enough, saying you would be a liability. Myself and Kakashi believe in you and your abilities use this mission to prove to the elders that you are an asset," Tsunade said.

Zeve nodded. Zeve's mother was abroad when the slaughter of his clan occurred, and had given birth to him there, alone, dying during childbirth. On a recent mission, Kakashi had discovered Zeve in an orphanage after his exhibited his Sharingan, and with the backing and clout of Tsunade, bought him back home to Konoha, where he entered the academy, albeit at a very late age. Sasuke had shown mild surprise at this one surviving relative, but was too consumed by revenge to care too much, by that point he had just received Orochimaru's curse mark and was on the path to darkness. Although he was older than Sasuke, he was in the grade below Sasuke due to his late admission, and after Sasuke's defection, was unceremoniously booted from the academy, even though he had proven to be a very promising ninja, he had gotten better scores than even Sasuke or Itachi. But it seemed that after Itachi's mass murder and Sasuke's defection, the elders were scared of the one remaining Uchiha and did not wish to see him advance in the ranks, for fear of another defection. However, Tsunade did not agree with the elder's unreasonable fear, and had Kakashi continue to train him anyway. At this point, he was a match for any of the Genin, and probably most of the Chunnin. And now, he would earn his title of shinobi, and prove those cowardly elders wrong.

A couple of days later

Chloe zipped up her bag, and she turned around to Andy, who was standing at the village gate.

"Be careful," Andy told her ", we've no idea what this Ketsumitchi is capable of right now. Kakashi mentioned that he was powerful, and that was back then. He could have grown in power exponentially since."

"Got it, be careful of scary power guy, kick demon ass, grab info, and be back home by ten," Chloe said ", anything else?"

"Sounds like you have the plan down to pat. Just don't take any unnecessary risks, remember you'll be going into most fights with a disadvantage," Andy said.

"Yeah yeah"¦it sucks being the weak one all of a sudden," Chloe pouted.

"Stop complaining and get going," Andy replied with a laugh.

As Chloe caught up with Zeve, Spike and Mark who were waiting ahead on the path out of the village, Andy suddenly got a very bad feeling in his stomach. He saw the wisdom in Tsunade's plan here, he would be needed here where his experience at research would prove the most useful, but he couldn't help but worry for his Slayer. It was a big bad brave new world out there, and for the first time since he took Chloe der his wing, he wasn't sure whether letting her fly free for a while was the best thing to do.

Itachi stood in the branch, watching as the rag tag bunch of fools departed from Konoha.

"So tell me again why we're not just crushing them right now?" Kisame complained, jumping down on to the branch next to him.

"Patience, my friend. One thing you've always needed to learn. We have orders, we'll wait. Then when the time is right the crushing you're so fond of can begin," Itachi replied with a hint of a smile creeping across his face.
