If season 1 had had a full season of 22 episodes, what do you think would have happened?
I think there could have been room for alot more character development, and the Master would have proved to be more of a problem.

I think there would be a few more "fillers".
Episodes such as The Puppet Show that aren't really needed. (I love The Puppet Show though!)

I also think the season finale would/could have been a two-part episode with more problems and conflicts. Especially with Buffy and Giles.
And maybe a bit more developments of the Buffy/Xander relationship.

I'd like to think that they would have kept Angel's secret for longer, or at least kept it from Buffy. I've always thought it would be interesting if it was revealed to the audience first, maybe during a confrontation with Darla or something and she said 'You're no better than me' or 'I made you who you are, Angelus' and having the audience deal with that, rather than having them react with Buffy.

I love this idea
I think it only had 12 eps because no one knew how the audince was going to react to the show snice the movie did not go over so well. I agree with you, if the first season had been longer we would have seen more charecter development. But I presonly like the way it was.

Season 1 was only 12 episodes because it was a mid-season replacement for some other TV show that ended up being cancelled.

I liked the 12 episode format, it had just enough episodes to establish the characters, the laws on the universe and have a couple surprises. The finale was written to be a series finale if the show was cancelled and I thought it did a solid job. If we had 22 episodes of filler that would be boring after a while. I loved season 1 as it is.

I think if we had gotten more Season 1 episodes, we should have seen Xander grieving his best friend, Jesse, and we should have gotten more character development for The Master and Angel's relationship to him.

yeah, more xander grieving jesse would have been good. he got over it pretty quickly and jesse is never mentioned again!

I always found that weird how Jesse was never mentioned again... or even missed in the slightest sense. I didn't really like him anyways, so whatever.

I think this season wouldn't have changed much if it was given more episodes. It probably would've had a similar story-line but just dragged out. Obviously there would have been more character development, "monster-of-the-week" episodes, background on Angel, and use of the Anointed One, The Master, and Darla. I think there could have been some gem episodes that, unfortunately, we will never get to see.

Yeah, there will probably be a long arc about Xander dealing with Jesse's death and complicated emotions about Angel being a vampire and yet allowed to stay alive.

I would have liked to see more focus on Xander's parents, Willow's parents, and Cordelia's parents. The show would have been more realistic that way. Maybe about an episode with Joyce wanting to meet Buffy's friends' parents.

Maybe a Willow's Sweet 16th birthday episode, I always thought Willow was the youngest and it would be refreshing to see other characters' birthdays.

Buffy/Angel would have developed gradually. I mean, she couldn't stand him in The Harvest and suddenly in Teacher's Pet she was all over him. That always made me go "Huh?"

Darla would have probably been more badass and did more damage to the group.

I would have like to have seen more Darla/Angel interaction. Maybe the ep Angel could have been made into 2 episodes.

Hmm, cool topic!

Agreed, it's been said before but yea, Jesse's death was gotten over way to quickly. Maybe a Xander focused episode where his hatred for Angel is linked to his hate for vampires because they killed his best friend.

I think it would have been cool to deepen the relationship between Buffy and Giles more. Maybe an episode where for some reason they had to rely soley on each other to escape, without the aid of Jenny, Willow, Angel, or Xander. More of just watcher/slayer.

Also, it would have been cool to have had more Jenny in there. Maybe have had Giles and Jenny date and get together before the end of season 1, maybe even have had her become a regular cast member by season 2. I think that it would have made the reveal of her being sent to watch Angel have even more of an impact because the audience would have had more invested in her as main character.

And I would have loved some more backstory on Willow and Xander and their frienship before Buffy. So maybe an episode where the focus is more on them with some flashbacks and such. Season 1 was good at laying the groundwork for the series and a little more backstory on Willow and Xander would have been fun!

More Darla for sure!! Thank goodness Joss brought her back in ATS season 2- I don't think they knew what they had in that character & actress until then.

totally agree with this - more Darla would have been amazing! would have liked her to survive and been part of the finale with the Master! And I love her episodes in Season 2 of Angel - some of my favourites!! :)
More backstory on The Master along with more backstory of past slayers and more Darla wouldve been a nice add on for an expanded season 1. Also Buffy dealing with the aftermath somehow of what happened at Hemry.

I think if we had gotten more Season 1 episodes, we should have seen Xander grieving his best friend, Jesse, and we should have gotten more character development for The Master and Angel's relationship to him.

Britt, I love both these ideas soo freaking much! It quite annoyed me how we didn't really see Xander grieving a lot after the opening. And, they were best friends if one of my best friends got turned into a vampire, it would take me more than a couple of days to get over it. Just sayin'.

Also, really liked the Master and Angel's relationship. I think if we'd had 22 episodes instead of 12, we would have gotten to see some more development of the family unit so to speak.

I always thought it would be cool for the show to essentially reshoot the events from the movie with SMG as Buffy, and to have Buffy's transition from LA to Sunnydale covered in more depth.

If we would have got 22 episodes instead of 12 i would have liked to seen more high school orientated epsodes. It would have been great to see how buffy and the gang dealt with everyday teenage problems while maintaining the huge secret. I loved episodes like the puppet show, witch and the pack because of the classic school mascott, cheerleading, dodgeball and all the other everyday high school .

I wouldn't have minded if the extra episodes were "monster of the week" episodes.

I would have like more eps which focused on the core four dealing with their different personalities and getting to know each other. Xander/Giles, Buffy/Xander etc. We get a lot of it but it's interesting to look back to when it was just the core four. Cordelia and Angel weren't as involved.

They would have expanded also more on the Giles/Jenny relationship, and perhaps explained more about Angel's curse. Maybe Willow and Xander would have had a thing. Or maybe it would have been the same, just spread over more episodes. Maybe Joss planned the story arc before he found out how many episodes they were allowed. It's a very interesting subject!

Maybe we would have seen Buffy leave LA? I don't know. I liked that season 1 was so short to be honest. Maybe an episode that focused on Jesse or something...a lot of people hate that he was never mentioned ever again. I was cool with letting that slide.
