Anyone seen this yet?
It's a statement from Bill Willingham (writer on Angel series) in response to Scott Allie's statement regarding his interview, which included the comment as you all know:
Hmm. It seems as though Bill disagrees:
...Wow.
This just threw my entire world upside down and completely crushed what little hope I had.
Is he saying that which I think he is saying? That he has and has never had any contact with Whedon and Co. regarding the continuity between the two series? Should we still consider ATF as canon? I am so confused.
Does this mean that Angel is indeed...really evil? THat what he's been doing in L.A...is not canon?
Someone please help me. I am confused.
The Buffy/Angel Continuity Conundrum - Comic Book Resources
Joan, let me put your mind at ease... a little.
Bill Willingham, from our point of view (the consumers) has only been running the Angel series for about four weeks.
After the Fall is unquestionably canon. The most basic mapping began with Whedon, Bell and Fury back when Angel was still on the WB.
Later, Whedon sat down with Brian Lynch and wrote down the basic plot of the entire story. Lynch then handled the details and churned out After the Fall for Whedon and IDW.
Issue #23 was the last comic that spawned from Whedon's outline. From August 2009-January 2010, IDW has been completely off of Whedon's notes (also, earlier, during Armstrong's Aftermath, that too had no involvement from Whedon).
Willingham printed his first issue, The Crown Prince Syndrome, a few weeks ago. He has at least two more upcoming. That is what was referred to here.
In short:
After the Fall - Joss' work, penned by Brian Lynch, Joss' collaborator. CANON
Aftermath - 100% Armstrong & IDW, no Whedon
The Crown Prince Syndrome - 100% Willingham & IDW, no Whedon
Note: As IDW's representative, Chris Ryall has technically overseen both the canon and non-canon titles.

Willingham confirmed what we had already suspected that Joss has had no involvement with IDW post ATF.
Willingham didn't even accomplish that much, as Kelley Armstrong already confirmed that Joss had no involvement with any of the IDW arcs that Brian Lynch wasn't involved with.

Thank you so much for the explanation! *whew*
