Fabulous BB's Top 50 Most Memorable Scenes in The Buffyverse (FINAL WEEK)

Here we are, the last week! It's down to five scenes and I can't wait to find out which one is selected as the most memorable in the Buffyverse! 😀 This thread will stay open for a little bit longer than the previous weeks, so make sure to tell all your BB friends to vote! Keep in mind that only the votes in the poll will count.

''Kill Me''

Tome's commentary: Aww, Faith! Even today, this is still easily one of my favorite scenes. It's packed full of emotion, the rain just adding to the atmosphere. But before I go on in more detail about the scene, let me talk about Faith Lehane and my feelings for her.

Like some others, I had never been big on her in S3 of BtVS. It was kind of surprising for me because I usually like bad girls in fiction. The thing with her, though, was that she only DISPLAYED an image of confidence; she was actually quite unsure of herself and she honestly got on my nerves whenever she talked tough to Buffy. Buffy may have been less *fun* than her, but that wasn't without reason: she had gone through a lot of hardships and she had matured as a result. Imo, if there was one person who could have talked down to the other in that relationship, it was Buffy. Faith had yet to bear the heavy cross of Slayership. 😉 Anyhow, then Faith got lured toward the dark side and you all know the rest.

It's only when Faith moved to Angel that I actually started getting interested in her. What can I say? I love evil characters who try to redeem themselves and become do-gooders. 😉 Hahaha!

Anyway, back to the scene at hand. Faith, who's quite unstable at this point, just finished torturing Wesley and is now fighting Angel. You realize that she didn't even plan to kill him (not that she can think clearly enough to even have a plan), she just knew that HE could take her down. Eliza Dushku is amazing here and she succeeds in making us feel Faith's tremendous pain. As if the scene didn't have enough emotion, Wesley shows up with a knife ready to consume his vengeance on the creature responsible for HIS pain. However, so utterly shocked is he by Faith's breakdown, he changes his mind and drops the knife on the ground while the rain keeps on pouring. Beautiful. It made me speechless.

''She Saved The World A Lot''
(Buffy S5 Ep22 ~ The Gift)

Buffy: Dawn, the hardest thing in this world... is to live in it.
Buffy: Be brave. Live.
Buffy: For me.

Tome's commentary: Without a doubt, 'The Gift' could have been the last episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You can easily argue that this ending is better than the one in 'Chosen'. After all, Buffy sacrifices herself for her sister and, just as Giles and Buffy herself had mentioned in the past, she dies young, just like every slayer before her. I'll concede that it's more depressing than the ending in 'Chosen', but on the other hand I think it's more fitting to the storyline than the ''let's give a bunch of girls slayer powers and see what happens'' story. Anyway, the one thing that hit me most in this scene is how crushed Spike looked. Not only was he in physical pain, but his heart was ripped apart! He might as well have been dusted. 😛 There's also Buffy's speech to Dawn: perfect, yet ironic because she's telling Dawn to be strong and live, but Buffy herself welcomed death by that point. 😉 Oh, and the music! The track was awesome. It fit the ending so well, and then the final shot of the tombstone... Aww, Buffy!

All in all, this was one of the most memorable scenes.

(Buffy S2 Ep22 ~ Becoming: Part 2)

Angelus: Now that's everything, huh? No weapons... No friends... No

Angelus: Take all that away... and what's left?
Buffy: Me.

Tome's commentary: This must be one of the most self-empowering moment ever on television. No, I'm not exaggerating! It's also one of the defining moments for the character of Buffy: Even though she has lost almost everything, she still goes on fighting; she is still strong. Angelus loves to break human beings from the inside, break their souls, and he thought he had accomplished that with Buffy. Sadly (for him), he was wrong. 😉 And no, you don't have to be a woman to feel empowered by this scene. Buffy always stood out to me as a very good model for anybody. Despite her flaws and her shortcomings, she is a strong, smart, courageous, compassionate, loving individual who always fights through what life throws at her! How is that not something to look up to?

''The Winter Here is Cold...''
(Buffy S2 Ep22 ~ Becoming: Part 2)

Buffy: Close your eyes.
Angel: Buffy...

Tome's commentary: Raise your hand if you teared up at the conclusion of this scene. Bangel fan or not, it's hard not to feel anything when, just like Buffy, you realize Angel is going to have to die (or so we assume) for the world to be saved. After having lost almost everything she held dear to her heart, Buffy does the unimaginable and stabs her lover with her sword, sending him to hell. As the realization of what she just did hits her like a mace, the song ‘Full of Grace’ starts playing. For me at least, the rest of the episode remains emblematic of BtVS to this day.

''I'll Never Forget''
(Angel S1 Ep8 ~ I Will Remember You)

Buffy: How am I supposed to go on with my life knowing what we had? What we could have had?
Angel: You won't. No one will know but me.
Buffy: Everything we did.
Angel: It never happened.
Buffy (shakes her head): It did. It did. I know it did! I felt your heart beat.
Angel: Buffy...
(They kiss)
Buffy: No! Oh God. It's not enough time.

Tome's commentary: Speaking of great, dramatic scenes... Angel and Buffy have theirs too! This one is definitely one of the more emotional (so much so that the actors themselves had trouble keeping it together). I mean, just put yourself in the same situation! That's horrible. Just knowing that you'll completely forget what you had with your lover. Obviously, the pain only lasted a minute or two for Buffy, but Angel is going to have to go on with the knowledge of what they could have had for the rest of his life. The man sure can carry a lot of crap on his back.​

Too many Bangel scenes for my liking 😛. Not that I don't think they are great scenes, but for me, I'm chosing my scene based on best representative of BtVS/AtS as a whole. Aka, the scene that made me go "this is Buffy, this is why I'm in love with this show".

I voted for "She Saved the World A Lot". This might just be my all time favourite scene of the verse. It's powerful, it's moving, and it is the only scene up here where we have the core four together. My favourite scene needs the core four.

If I had to choose a runner up, it would be Kill Me. Simply because I adore Faith. And I also like Angel better in that scene compared to the others.

I could have easily picked any one of these scenes. I really wanted to say "I'll Never Forget" but I find it hard to turn away from "The Winter Here Is Cold." It changed everything in the verse, (and for me as it was the first scene I saw of the show and what hooked me in.) I think it's a truly defining moment of the verse and the pinnacle of a season of narrative triumph.

I was really torn between 'She Saved The World A Lot' and 'Kill Me'.

The end of S5 was so iconic and moving it left me reeling for days, the 'Kill Me' scene was when Faith became my favourite character of the show and started her journey towards redemption.

Also, ultimatley 'Kill Me' is the birth of one of my alltime favourite relationships, whereas 'SSTWA' gives birth to so many (imo) bad things- Spuffy, depressed Buffy, hell- depressed everybody. It's a sad moment that leads to so many other sad moment. 🙁

But 'Kill Me' is, oddly, a happy moment, its the beginning of something special, and it's also Angel's coda for the show. Buffy saves the world a lot, but Angel saves people- or tries to. Faith, Darla, Conner, Cordelia - it's what he does and while he doesn't always succeed, he always tries, he fights, and it costs him.

So I voted for Angel's first most resounding success. Go Angel and Faith! 🙂

Too many Bangel scenes for my liking 😛. Not that I don't think they are great scenes, but for me, I'm chosing my scene based on best representative of BtVS/AtS as a whole. Aka, the scene that made me go "this is Buffy, this is why I'm in love with this show".

This is most memorable scenes, Buffy and Angel are iconic, people that dont watch the show know of Buffy and Angel like how someone that doesn't watch Friends knows Ross and Rachel, makes perfect sense

I vote Winter is Coming, that scene is quintessential BtVS, by far one of the most memorable scenes, from the characters involved, to the music, how epic it was and the huge implications it had in shaping the future of the show(s)

''The Winter Here is Cold...''
It's an easy pick for me between these five.
Would not had picked it as my all-time favourite myself but definitely top 5, probably even top 3.
I was so sold on BtVS when this happened, the season didn't end with a happy ending. I loved that.
Sure, Buffy did save the world obviously but what a price she had to pay.
Yeah, I thought it was brilliant.

''Kill Me'' is not bad, but it doesn't mean much to me. And I have a bit of a problem with breakdowns scenes like these. They are hard to do without getting... was about to say silly, but I'm not sure that's the right word but I hope someone understand what I mean.

''She Saved The World A Lot'' is a beautiful scene and yet again a bit of a surprise ending at first watch.
By now I had learn a bit how the show worked so it was not quite as big of a surprise as it was back in season 2 though...
Still, I really like this one probably my second pick of these five.

''Me'' is a bit too cheesy for my vote among these other wonderful scenes.
I'm not really into this, getting back up, fighting better than ever stuff.
Actually surprised to see this scene getting so far. Can't recall it being discussed much but apparently people like it.

''I'll Never Forget'' is a bit like the Kill Me scene.
It gets a bit too melodramatic for my taste. While ''The Winter Here is Cold...'' just have this silent 'Close your eye' line this has tears and stuff flying all over the place.
Nah, it's just not as beautiful imho.

Finally (sorry for the long post) I want to thank [MENTION=9740]Tome[/MENTION] for doing this.

[Ethan Reigns]

The winter here is cold.

This is where Buffy shows she can make the big decision. The other choices are a little heavy on the melodrama. A little heavy on the cheese too, the only question is whether it is inoffensive like Gouda or rank like Limberger. As the cheese man says in "Restless 4ABB22", these will not protect you.

 

[The Bronze]

I'll show up for the last week and have my say 🙂. The winter is cold here gets my vote. The Season 2 finale was epic and this was the pinnacle of it. An emotional rollercoaster and then to have such a hollow victory, it was just fantastic all round.

 

[PassionBecoming]

The Winter Here is Cold. For me there just isn't any question. Whenever I think of BtVS or hear/see it referenced, this scene is where my brain automatically goes. It is one of the only scenes in TV/movies that automatically makes me choke up and my eyes tear. It wraps up who Buffy is for me - she is about love, sacrifice, loss, saving the world at all costs, making the difficult decisions. This is a tragic end to one of the most intense/passionate relationships on TV at this point. And as [MENTION=12470]The Bronze[/MENTION] said, it is such a hollow victory. Plus, this was a game-changer and led to so many more epic story lines.
