So what do you think about facebook?
Dangerous profit-oriented social network with traps and pitfalls or most genius invention of the 21th century? Revolution or just a "trend"?

Let's discuss here!

(Haha I was just thinking what would Buffy say about facebook? And then:
What would Giles say?)

you've been starting some great threads these few days!
I think Facebook is awesome for keeping in touch with people, but it also has some really bad privacy issues, too. I don't like, for instance, that my mom can share one picture from one of my albums on her wall and all her friends can see the entire album by clicking through on the pic. :\
I kinda picture Giles being like my Dad when he first got a Facebook page; scared at first, but then totally addicted and stalking Buffy and Willow. LMAO

LOL at the Giles stalking.
I don't have Facebook and probably never will. I have some issues with things like this. There are a few of those.

I think Giles would say he hates that idea, but he would probably open an account secretly 😀

lol about opening an account in secret
I like it. It helps me keep in contact with friends i've made on or offline so it's handy and easy to use ^_^. Just wish some friends wouldn't keep posting depressing pictures. Why would I want to see a story of animal abuse when I log in in the morning? Way to ruin the day T^T

I do dislike the 4,000 friend limit though. I like being very active and meeting many new people xD

Lol I'd hate to have 1000 friends let alone 4000!
Facebook is addictive, and aslong as you set your settings high privacy and only accept people you know, I havent known anyone to actually have something bad about it... except maybe have a couple of parties crashed...

I'm not a big fan, I use it, I try to check it a few times a week but mainly I enjoy it because it's a smooth way to keep in touch with people, even those you rarely speak to. But that's about it, I don't really think it's a trend, I think it'll stick around, but personally I thought it got old a long while ago and I'm constantly on the verge of removing my account. 🙂

Facebook is addicting. I used to use it just to keep in touch with people (and I do still use it for that in some instances) but now it's just fun. I like the games. 🙂 The only bad thing is how accessible you are at all times. Someone can message you at any time, or write whatever they want about you on your wall.

I love the blocking option...

I have never and hopefully never will be addicted to facebook. I often dislike it when people say they are addicted or that when they're away all they want to do is check facebook. It has many issues with it, privacy issues and otherwise and while it is wonderful in some aspects it can be terrible in others. I use it, I don't love it.

I have family members every where. My great great grandparents were busy beavers. So yeah, I use facebook to keep in touch with family and friends. It kind of annoys me when people use it as a diary. I have cousins who post insanely private and/or completely inapropriate things on there. People like that make me want to not go on it at all, it's so sad. But there are also some people that I'm friends with who post amusing anecdotes, witty jokes/stuff that they come up with, funny pictures, etc.

I use facebook a lot. I am a pretty political person when it comes to certain issues, and I think it's a great way to promote certain causes and give people tips about tv shows or documentaries. And also to recieve it of course! Many of my friends are also very active on facebook, and it's a great way of keeping in touch with people that I don't live in the same town as. I do have high privacy settings though, and I only share certain things with certain of my networks. And yeah, it does take up way to much of my time and I wish that I could cut down on it. It's just very addictiving, especially when you have the facebook app for iphone....

I check Facebook several times a day briefly just to see what funny/interesting stuff my friends posted. My privacy settings make it so people can't see anything unless they are friends with me so I'm very aware everything.
Also it is a very good place to share information and promote causes (as @This Year's Girl mentioned). I'm not a stalker type person though, and Facebook does seem to be becoming more stalker friendly all the time. I think thats what is making me avoid it more now.

As for WWGD?? Well I don't see him as a very computer savvy person anyway so I think he'd probably avoid it alltogether 😛

Hahaha, it would have been funny to see facebook mentioned on a show like BtVS! Too bad it ended before. 😉 Giles would probably have bitched about it, as usual.

Personally, I don't think much about it. I was never into it, and then a friend convinced me to get one. Ever since then I've been using it mostly to chat with friends... I rarely update my page, and I don't feel addicted or anything. And I think it's funny how so many people stalk up everyone pictures. 😉 I wonder who stalked mine... hmm!

My privacy settings are the highest they can be, but I don't generally write/share anything personal on it anyway.

May you can give me/us some tipps to make our account more safer?!

I don't like facebook, but I have an account. I use it to write messages to my friends.
I didn't use my real name and I stated that I was from Utapau (that's a planet from Star Wars), studied at UC Sunnydale and was the head of the rocket department of ACME.
Most people on my so-called friend list I know personally. All except one, I believe.

Some of my "friends" get really on my nerves, because they post some crap all the time. It's not even interesting.

I dislike Facebook. I have it but I only use it to say in touch with my sister. I'm not really interested in the mundane lives of other people, so although I look in on it from time to time to see if my friends have organised any nights out, I don't actually interact much with most of the people on there. I prefer Twitter.
