Facebook

Because you're a very private person? Because Faceboook is for losers? Lack of real life friends? If the last one is the reason there's nothing stopping you from having online friends. It wouldn't surprise me if I have over 40 contacts that I've never met in real life. And I most definitely talk to some of my online friends more than I do my real life ones. Too much information? I guess I don't see the obvious when I got more than one option.

Wow. That was incredibly judgemental. I don't have facebook. Would you say, from the small amount of things you know about me that they are my reasons for not having facebook?

Not at all. They are examples. Sorry if it felt like they're the only possible reasons. I thought that if none of them suited I'd hopefully be told that reason. I was just too lazy to try and come up with every possible reason. Feel free to share more no matter if they fit you or not.

The only reason I don't have facebook is because I couldn't answer this question - 'Why do I have facebook?'

I wanna try!!!
Why do I have facebook?:
it gives me another page to look at when I'm bored and want to know what's going on in other people I know's lives.

YAY! I can answer the question!

lmao!! that's the same answer for me :D
I don't judge or have any problem with other people having facebook. I mean, lets face it, if I did I'd have an issue with just about everyone!

Personally though I feel that if I'm bored there are other things that I could be doing that I find more enjoyable. Buffy Boards is just one example, but at least when I'm on here I'm generally involved in actual conversations. I wasn't doing that anymore on facebook it was mostly just 'yay, its Friday'. *Cait likes*. To me that just didn't seem worth it anymore.

I feel the same way about catching up with friends. If I want to know what is going on with my friends or family I will pick up the phone and give them a phone call, arrange a coffee date, or if they're overseas - shoot off an email. If I didn't have an email or a phone it would be different. I just find that there are much better ways to enjoy peoples company other than facebook.

That's just me personally though, I know a lot of people love facebook and that's cool to.

Lots of reasons. Personally, I think Facebook is great. It gives me the opportunity to keep in touch with everyone that I can't get in touch with because they're all over the globe. Besides that, it helps a lot with my soon-to-be-career in web design. I already have a website currently and I do a lot of promotion for it with Facebook. I'm pretty much guaranteed that once I get my actual degree, Facebook will help further that and I might get more opportunities to create sites for others. The lesser reason is that it's just fun! lol Not sure why, but it definitely ceases my boredom, which is odd because I don't do a whole lot of actual conversation on there!

TL;DR I use it for family/friends and networking purposes.

I think networking is a good reason. Besides, as long as you have fun and enjoy it then why not have it I say?!

A good reason.

I'm not perfect and even if my intentions is nothing like it, people can still take what I write the wrong way. So if you, NL197 or anyone else saw my earlier post as offensive or judgemental I apologize.

My reasons are mixed. I'm not facebook crazy and usually don't spend a lot of time on it but it happens. Like the other day when I got stuck due to some questioniare thing. I've never played a single game on facebook which I'm a bit proud of. Still I think I got loads and loads of "silly" things that I've done but they're just for fun. And if I compare to some other people it's actually not that much. I do like to keep in touch with people I don't meet at all in real life or just not often enough. It's not a good sign but I get to know way more about what sisters are up to thanks to facebook than over the phone or email. And it's not that we don't keep in touch. But writing a small notice on facebook doesn't take nearly as much time as writing an email or phone and it reaches way more people. I got the time to talk or write mails, they rarely do. So even if it's not the best option I sure prefer it over nothing. My own updates are most of the time just meaningless though. I have no trouble admitting that.

The last example of a good thing coming from me having facebook is that I'd never known about "wear purple day" if I hadn't been using it.

I didn't find it offensive at all. If I did, I wouldn't have answered the question. My answer was all the reasons I had and nothing more. I'll answer any kind of personal question because I've nothing to hide.

I didn't think you did. But with Cait's reaction I just wanted to be safe so to speak since my intentions was nothing like it.
There wasn't any real offence, more like a mock semi serious offence.

If you have fun on facebook then it's all that matters. If you can answer the question with 'I dunno why I have it, but I enjoy having it' then all good. Personally though, I couldn't even say that anymore, so I suspended it. One day I'll get it back, but at the moment I just don't see the need.

I answered the question since it came up. Not to defend myself.

Having it just because people think you should is a bad reason if you ask me. It should always be up to the person. I never had myspace even if people told me to. And it's nothing I regret. Since having facebook seems to be the "norm" nowadays I like it when people don't. In that way I'd like to be able to say no myself. Right now I'd miss it too much though. But when I stop feeling that way I'll close my account.

Haha, photos are the best thing about facebook!
Aaaah, Facebook!
I'm a compulsive facebook-"friends"-deleter!
Every now and then, I just think "270 friends is like way too much. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. (Bilbo Baggins karma)." I sometimes come to a point where I realize I don't need 270 whose the most I don't like or don't even know. So I'm doing lots of deleting. It mades me feel like a least slave of Facebook! :tongue3: Now, all the people in my friends I know/like/like at least their post.

So I've been thinking about this board a lot. On the one hand, I want to add you all. On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to, even if I like you Buffy-Boarders! *Yeah, I don't always know what I want*

I know what you mean. Being facebook friends isn't really the same thing like talking here. I like that people can be private here and that noone really knows who you are, what your interests are and so on, not more than you tell yourself anyway. You can choose in another way than you can when it comes to facebook. On facebook you share a lot of information with people through a lot of channels (like what groups you are in, what your friends write about you, photos you have and what your doing on them and so on), and some of that information you may not want people here to know. For me the good overweighs the bad though, I have maybe 10 facebook friends from BB on facebook and I feel that most of them I have gotten to know better since I added them/they added me. It's also really fun to know more about them and I've gotten to like them even more since we became facebook friends because of that. But yeah, the internet can be a tricky place to be on, you can't really know if people are who they say they are either, even though I feel I like everybody on here and I believe that they are who they say they are it's no way of telling a 100 procent.

But yeah, it's a choice you have to make, what feels best for you. It really isn't any right or wrong answers. 🙂

If you decide on yes you're more than welcome to add me anyway. 🙂

Feel free to add me! or I should maybe say, add me please ^.^just write a message where you found me, or else I will get suspicious😉
